- Remote evacuation function
- Can yank the holder through hyperspace to one of the nearest hypergates, instantly extracting them from any given situation the hard way.
- Large and cumbersome, not suitable for carrying around. (Maybe in a backpack?)
- Must be brought to an active hypergate after each use to recharge.
- Might bring along whatever's right beside you, e.g. a grappling enemy.
- Destination hypergates may not always be pleasant or convenient places. You could easily wind up far beyond enemy lines, stranded in hostile weather, etc. And of course, being at the location of a hypergate does not automatically mean you can activate or operate that hypergate. The Bronze Tangent is zero help in that regard.
- Getting yanked to a hypergate means exposure to blinding chaotic hard vacuum, for minutes or hours. Dress appropriately. DO NOT LET GO OF THE BRONZE TANGENT.
In 867 ABY, a number of hypergates opened throughout the galaxy during the Oblivion Crisis. In 874 ABY, other gates began to open or be repaired. The Bronze Tangent artifacts, while not hypergates themselves, do interact with hypergates. Activating a Bronze Tangent will yank the object's holder to the location of one of the nearest hypergates. (You might also wind up at a Kwa Infinity Gate, a Silk Holdings N0-GR3 Matter Transmitter, etc.)
Bronze Tangents are vanishingly rare, especially outside Forerunner hands. Since recovering the Null Chord, the Forerunners have occasionally parked the unique vessel close to an operation (i.e. closer than any known gate) and used Bronze Tangents to zip back to the ship if necessary.
