SPECIAL FEATURES

      • Pre-launch: The round downloads target information from the launcher.

      • Terminal: The round switches to laser gyroscope inertial guidance for the terminal phase, preventing broad spectrum jamming from affecting it to a large extent. The round then expends the remainder of its fuel in a sustained high energy acceleration toward the target.

  • Communications Suite: When connected to compatible systems, the communication suite is an auto-negotiating, frequency hopping system with a self-modulating encryption key, making it extremely resistant to jamming and interception. The comm-lasers can mimic this by rapidly shifting their broadcast spectrum.
  • Sensor, Scanner and Tracking Suite: The missile creates a composite sensor picture by cross checking data from all of its sensors when in guidance modes where it actively uses the to acquire/track targets.

STRENGTHS

  • Big Boom: The round has a very large blast radius of 50 meters, easily able to cover formations of infantry or vehicles with lethally hot incendiary plasma.
  • Tracking: Given the high velocity of Verpine Shatter rounds and the added evasion mitigation and the ability to course correct that the guided rounds have, the chance of actually missing a target is greatly lowered. Additionally, the round is capable of adjusting it's trajectory to adjust for the movement of most infantry and vehicle targets.
  • Jamming Resistant: The composite sensor, scanner and tracking suite of the rounds prevents broad spectrum jamming from affecting it to a large extent.

WEAKNESSES

  • Limited Maneuvering: These rounds are incapable of making any dramatic maneuvering. They can account for last minute evasion attempts by most targets such as infantry targets with jetpacks or particularly maneuverable or fast repulsorcraft.
  • Indiscriminate: The large lethal blast radius necessitate careful targeting to prevent damage to friendly forces or collateral damage.
  • Heavy Armor: The VSMR-PI isn't effective against heavy armor, given that the incendiary plasma lacks the ability to melt through the plating. Any lighter vehicles with sufficient temperature control systems or droid crews that don't have their armor and sensitive systems melted through are usually not affected directly by the weapon. Though there are psychological factors to consider with organic crews.

DESCRIPTION

The VSMR-PI is a guided mortar round with, active and control guidance as well as dumbfire capabilities. The rounds feature an advanced composite sensor, scanner and tracking suite, a number of evasion mitigation features and the ability to course correct that the guided rounds give the rounds a greatly lowered miss chance. Additionally, the round is capable of adjusting it's trajectory to adjust for the movement of most infantry and vehicle targets. When this is combined with the significant lethal blast radius of 50 meters makes the VSMR-PI a notably lethal mortar round.
