Did Someone Order a War?

Mmmmffppp Mppmpp. Oh I can speak through this.

OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Supply: Four days worth of air supply for one individual in all conditions, the breath is recycled and air regenerated in a self-contained system. The recycling tanks can be swapped and changed with fresh ones relatively easily with a clip and release. It's not an oxygen tank, it is mostly a waste tank with an inbuilt recycler. Vastly reducing the explosive potential if hit. Even in a vacuum or underwater, the unit works the same. Use of the supply and sealing the system is activated either on the tank or mask.
  • For All: Although called the RBOS because its catchy and easier to market, the actual air supply depends on the user, as not everyone breathes oxygen!
  • Regular Breathing: Rebreather to filter out toxins, poisons, viruses or other unwanted organisms and gases. When not underwater, in zero-g or another extremely hazardous environment, this functions as a regular rebreather, not drawing on its air supply.
  • Safety: Secondary biofiber filter, scanning internally for foreign particles if they react with the bioengineered skin filter. Self-sealing the breather, and running off the air recyclers to prevent exposure.
  • Combat: Dual recycling tanks give a backup if one is hit. The size can be altered to fit the armor, escape pod or other small fitting such as your pet's tank. As mentioned there is a limited amount of actual air in the tank if its struck, you are mostly hitting excess carbon or other waste materials.
  • Style: Ultimately the outer surface of the unit will be whatever the armor or surface it's integrated into is. Internally its made of Durasteel and biofiber with a couple of Crystasteel and miscellaneous alloy components.
  • Comfort: The Breather can be worn without armor as a simple mask with air supply. If so it's mostly Durasteel with Crystasteel edges, colored black and white by default. This is useful for example while driving underwater or in an emergency situation that needs a mask. In this case, there is an optional Durasteel and internally lined Herdon Leather belt provided, which is designed for comfort and safety.
  • Finish: PLA-CORR Coating and Finish - 50% Anti-Corr and 50% Plasteel. Offering superior resistance to weathering the natural elements, scratch resistance and keeping a shine.
STRENGTHS
  • Any Environment: Four days worth of recycled Air in a self-contained system. The recycling tanks need to be swapped at this point or emptied of their waste materials. If the recyclers are not engaged the rebreather is used instead and the potential air capacity is not touched.
  • Filtering: When breathing normally there is a rebreather to filter out unwanted gas and other toxins. A secondary biofiber filter is fitted and scanned internally for dual protection, catching biological contagions, and self-sealing the system to work off its recyclers if required.
  • One Size fits all: Not only size, shape and colors. The actual air supply is tailored to the user, while for many it will be an oxygen recycler, not everyone breathes oxygen.
WEAKNESSES
  • Weight: Carrying two modest-sized air recyclers on your back needs space and has some weight cost, not a lot of weight, but it's noticeable.
  • Power Use: Air recyclers use power. While the regular rebreather functions without, if you are using the two tanks on your back, underwater or in zero-g for example, you are draining your fitted system's power.
  • Can only take what's there. If the planet has no element in the air at all you that can breathe, the rebreather cannot magically make it appear. So you are instead using your dual tank recyclers and supply, which will eventually need changing.
  • Underwater Use. While some rebreathers work underwater or in liquid without using any air supply, this one doesn't, you will be using your air supply.
DESCRIPTION

Pairing with Haxion Brood in the use of biofiber, FFE are furthering Apex's bioengineered applications of the material. Using it as a secondary filter and emergency shutoff for any harmful substance trying to get past the rebreather. Rebreathers are reliable and used the galaxy over to filter out unwanted gases in an environment, toxins or potential viruses and contaminations. However, as has been well noted with the Blackwing and Terminus crises you can never be too careful, so a second filter has become standard on a few armored helmets.

Built into whatever armor and surface it's fitted to, generally, it'll be the same color and surface material of the fitted item. If not, its durasteel with crystasteel edges, white and black. FFE usually throw in an optional Herdon Leather and Durastel belt to fit the unit securely into place, for when the tanks are mounted directly on someone's back rather than into armor or a wall. Herdon leather seems a popular comfort fitting underneath the rougher durasteel and has proven popular.

While we realise not all species breathe oxygen, and this unit caters to many diverse species, summing this unit up we will assume an oxygen user.

Given most of FFE's clients usually end up facing multiple blasters on an average or even good day, the unit is built so that if one tank goes down, the other functions. While this will mean two days oxygen before the oxygen recyclers need to be emptied instead of four. This redundancy approach does mean it's suitable for use in a battle. Carrying two oxygen tanks on your back would be explosive, thankfully the user is carrying two oxygen recyclers on their back which contain a fraction of the oxygen in a full tank, the rest being things like waste carbon.

Rebreather or Supply. The rebreather means the supply isn't being used. Obviously less useful in zero, underwater or in the most extreme of environments, that would be a time to engage the oxygen recyclers. It does, however, function effectively in most environments a person could survive in, if there is any breathable atmospheric gases at all present.

FFE literally raided Apex Industrials office to get this design. Leaving one smoldering floor and highly confused nightshift janitor with a hydrobrush in its wake. Apex Industrial and Fire for Effect both refused to comment over the corporate espionage incident, no doubt causing further boardroom tensions or perhaps a killing spree. The janitor however was mightly angry, until days later he was spotted owning a nightclub on Nar Shadda. Apparently promotion can work fast in the Hutt Cartel.
