-- BO-8 is a silicon-based life form and is a three pronged crystal with his center most point being the highest. His crystallized from is normally clear thought he uses an assortment of lights and patterns to transmit his communication ability. So long as a Droid or Robotic body is installed with a Shard Harness, BO-8 is able to fit and move around using the body. He is very skilled in piloting many different droids, so his appearance to others can and does often change as he is very interested in upgrades to his body.
