DESCRIPTION
As champions of trade, Blue Riband's basic business model is to purchase goods, transport them to another place, and sell them for a profit. In addition to trading goods on the galactic market, Blue Riband also transports cargo as an intermediary aboard its own merchant fleet. Although the company has significant mechanical operations at its facilities on Dubrillion and Bastion, these services are strictly for internal repair and the company does not currently design or build ships. Blue Riband prides itself on providing a good working environment for its employees, viewing a contented workforce as an investment in future returns.
Although its main centers of operation are situated within Sith Imperial space currently, its Chairman and CEO is a pragmatist and cognizant of the fact that the political landscape can shift rapidly and with little warning. They comply with all regulations and pay their taxes, but the company and its leadership do not ascribe to any particular political belief system. Their basic credo is that the only thing better than money is more money, and so will do whatever it takes to keep their business going. The company purchases the goodwill of the public through various philanthropic donations and environmental efforts, while the Carlisle family also makes substantial public relations efforts on behalf of Blue Riband with extensive philanthropic efforts.
RATIONALE
One way or another, the Carlisle family has always been in trade. The can trace their family line back to early hyperspace traders, though there is an open secret among the Carlisles that the family fortune stemmed from less than legitimate means -- from careers as smugglers and bootleggers. But the current iteration of the family business is entirely clean. Blue Riband shares its name with an unofficial award for the fastest transoceanic voyage, an ancient tradition from Entralla's seafaring trading days. The name is meant to convey speed and reliability. Blue Riband was founded in 691 ABY by Archibald Carlisle, during the Plague Years. Success was slow, with progress hampered by the chaotic nature of a plague-stricken galaxy. The company focused on building its infrastructure and reputation over fast growth, managing to make a reputation as an above-board and reliable dealer. Since its founding, the family has retained the ownership interest in Blue Riband, passing control down from parent to child for six generations.
Truly a family business, the children of the immediate past Chairman of the Board spent their teens and early twenties working in various stages of the family business, and several have returned to the family business following university. The most ambitious and capable of the four Carlisle children was Aderyn, who upon learning of her father's plans to retire, lobbied hard to be selected as his successor. After she presented an ambitious plan for growth and expansion, the board endorsed her father's nomination of Aderyn for Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board. With her father behind her and the whole galaxy before her, Aderyn Carlisle is preparing to make Blue Riband a name known the whole galaxy over.
