Blood and Sand

The gladiators lifestyle.. even among slaves and free men it was not a thing to be trifled with. So simple and it was all that they needed to get through life. Wake up in the morning, eat, train and sleep. Then once they got in the arena they were expected to fight and maybe die if the crowd willed it. The plan was ingenious really.. take a slave, allow him and others to think he was more than just a man, a God of the Arena, all the while he stands but a slave. God of nothing but blood and sand, yet the crowd would grow to adore them if only they win and win in style.

However the crowd was a fickle thing and their favor, fleeting. It would not take long for you to lose such adoration, if you were really good though.. it was not impossible to rise again if only given the chance. These fights in the arena drew all kinds, looking to wage money on the gladiators or simply to be entertained. As civilized as the galaxy wanted you to believe it was, there was always places like these that glorified bloodshed, violence and sex. For one such as the mad Shape-shifter this was a place he would like to think was his own little haven.

Insanity, that's what they called it when a man that had no reason to be involved in these fights shows up and volunteers to participate in the fight. He called it opportunity, for what of a man that was no slave gaining fame and notoriety on the sands of the Arena? There was money to be made, glory to be seized and Seth Draclau would have equal parts of it. He was already a man who could have anything he wanted.. but there was always more.

Dressed in the traditional garb of a gladiator with two swords as his weapons he waited behind gated entrance for his introduction for the match. He wasn't sure just who he would be fighting but it mattered very little when his name was called and the gates opened in front of him. Walking out onto the sands, his arms rose up in the air and the crowd cheered for his entrance. A smile spread over his face at the reception this was a good day to fight.. maybe even to die.

Daxton's eyes narrowed in interest as the new gladiator stepped on the sands. A seemingly virile specimen of his race, as gladiators tend to be, there was something about him that sparked his curiosity. With a bejeweled finger he summoned one of the wage takers that plied the crowds of the elite and wealthy ho came to bet on the lives of the gladiators.

"I like the look of this one. Ten thousand credits he walks away alive from this fight." With a flick of his cred stick, the transaction was made and the Sith leaned back in his lounge chair in anticipation for the carnage to begin.

He had to stop visiting these goddamn primitive worlds, it was becoming more of a liability than an asset. It seemed that every time he came to a world like this he was caught feeding, whether it was because he was growing sloppy, or because he secretly wanted to get caught he had absolutely no idea. What he did know however was that once he had been captured instead of being sent to prison he had been sent to this filthy arena.

His weapons had been taken from him along with his clothes and other arms, he had been dressed in this...ridiculous garb that hardly passed off as armor and been given a simple selection of weapons. Erich had of course taken the quarterstaff, or what seemed to be a quarterstaff like weapon. In actuality it was much much shorter although if one pressed a button on it the stick extended to grow far larger, it was interesting and probably his best shot. Erich let out a loud sigh, then peered down at himself. All of his tattoo's were showing, his entire upper body and arms were covered in them.

Anyone would be able to read them, though he wondered if half the galaxy even knew what they meant, criminals certainly would...or most criminals anyway. He shrugged as the mesh gate before him slowly opened and his “name” was called.

When he had been captured they had given him a fake name, a gladiatorial name meant to impose fear and cheer within the crowd. The Garhoon scoffed loudly as they sad his name, then he stepped upon the sands of the arena with a serene calm. He did not jeer at the crowd, he made no acknowledgment of them, he simply looked across the arena and at the other door, ready to fight whatever came.

Seth watched another man enter the area but he did not quite here what it was that his name was. Admittedly he wasn't paying that much attention and had the thought within him that it would not be a one on one match. It was after mid day sun and the later matches always had some fun stipulation or two. Multi-man matches, teams, maybe even the chance that they throw a wild beasts into the mix and have them all working together to save their collective skins. Either way he didn't care, fights to the death were always so exciting and with so much to live for, how could he fall?

Much to his expectation more men were lead into the arena, it seemed they were going to have themselves a good old fashioned free for all. That was until he heard the distinct cry of a beast whom he'd heard many times before. His heard turned to another gate he heard it from and from the way the gate opened and springing forth from the entrance were a number of the beasts known as Nexu, all much bigger than normal and half starved from the look of it. Fast and vicious and all he had were two swords to balance his life on and of course the other fighters.

"Could be worse I suppose... we could be blindfolded," he said to himself as he looked at his fellow fighters.

Jorn was intrested in what the battle was going to contain. he moved to the front to see the action with a better view. a gladiator's name was called out. as he entered he rased his hands and everyone started chearing. another one enterd in to the arena and payed no heed to the bloodthirsty crowd. as they moved closer together when another gate opened to a beast that he has never seen. it didnt matter the out come there was going to be blood spilt today.

Erich walked out to the middle of the Arena watching the other contestants quite closely. He didn't hear any of their names, nor did he really care what they were. He was in fact far more interested in their stature, their builds, how they carried themselves, every detail of information he could get on them now before the fighting began. He had no idea if he could survive this, there were quite a lot of fighters down here within the pits already.

Luckily for the Garhoon he had already fed before being captured, he was not hungry or starved, he was at full strength. This meant that in theory he could even take on a Jedi, he was stronger and faster than the average human and quite a bit harder to kill, still he was very weary of the other combatants.

“Could be raining.” Erich said to the other man that stood near him. He had made a comment about being blindfolded, and the Garhoon had felt like being witty although in this moment humor may not have been the right thing.

Seth offered a bit of a nod, as if he was trying to say that yeah that would just make the fight all kinds of difficult. On one hand he could see it as awesome, who didn't like a fight in the rain? The clashing of swords as thunder bombed in the sky. Admittedly though.. against Nexu, yeah it might be just a little worse, given harsh conditions and unstable terrain. Might as well not give a beast that moves on four legs instead of two further advantage against the prey they would shred with claws and fangs. Seth didn't know how the others felt.. but he really didn't care to become a meal right then and there.

The editor of the games stood high in the stands with all the other noble men and women who had come to see the games. With a swipe of his hand, the game began and the beasts released from what leash they were on. Just as he figured the hairy beasts did not waste time charging for the men set against them. It took all his ability and senses just to dive out of the way and stand ready for another assault as the others were rained upon by the beasts.

As the beasts rushed the gladiators, Daxton leaned forward, his cup of wine caught half way to his lips as he watch in anticipation for the blood and the carnage. Would his bets survive? He hoped so, at the very least he was hoping for some entertainment to ease the stress of the last few days.

there was some chatter among the the men in the arena a few head nods. the editor of the games entered his seat and swiped his hand for the games to begin. with the crowd cheering for blood and the charge of the hairy beast caused this rolling thunder that never seemed to end.
"jezz looks like this is ether going to be short and sweet or one of the longest battles that i will ever see." he muttered to himself. the men in the arena had an asorntment of wepons and armor. ment for one on one combat. but not from these beast that made the tallest of them look like mice. but none the less the gladiators got into crouched or ready stances for them to kill or be killed. their would be only one outcome, death and one victor
