Braze's eyes tracked his student's movements, watching as Kaelos vanished into the trees. He waited, patient, letting him set up whatever plan he was forming. Overhead, the branches shifted offering aa quiet signal before Kaelos leaped.

Braze moved. A single, deliberate step to the side, letting Kaelos land where he had expected Braze to be. The saber flickered off in his hand, clipped smoothly to his belt in the same motion; perhaps a touch of keep-away, perhaps a test.

"And here I thought you didn't like fighting." A chuckle, light but pointed. He wondered if Kaelos had even considered simply asking for it back. Likely not. Pride and adrenaline had their way of making simple solutions invisible.

Braze rolled his shoulders, shifting his stance. No blades now. Just him.

Time to see how his student handled unarmed Soresu.

Braze Braze was lined up exactly where he wanted him.

And then there was a floor.

And it was approaching rapidly.

And he couldn't change course.

Maybe stealth wasn't his forte. Braze had known exactly where he was at all times and had predicted exactly what he was going to do. He'd sidestepped like it was nothing, leaving Kaelos to fall at speed towards the stone floor.

He figured he could attempt to adjust his landing, try landing on his knees instead of smack on his face. It didn't seem entirely worth it though. No matter how he landed, it was going to hurt. Besides, it wouldn't kill him. He'd willingly jumped from a third story window and survived.

There was a thud and a crunch as Kiffar collided with stone. He lay there, breathing heavily. Nothing seemed broken, although he was likely to have a few bruises. His ego was definitely going to be bruised, there was definitely no doubt about it.

Sticking a thumb up, he raised his thumbed hand into the air to let Braze know he was okay. He was quite content to just lie on the floor, it hid his embarassment. Pain radiated throughout his body from his collision with the ground, but it would pass in time.

"Well, that was a bad idea" he accepted with a slight chuckle. "I think that might be match. One nil Braze"

Braze stood over his student and shook his head. "You let me get the better of you that time… This is why mental discipline is just as important as physical. When we're upset, annoyed, or when our pride is hurt, it's easy to get caught up in doing what we want rather than what we should."

He paused, then offered, "I had stopped fighting; did you ever consider negotiating? Bargaining with me to get it back? Maybe even trying to guilt me into returning it, since what I did wasn't exactly sportsmanlike?"

Braze leaned down, extending both his hilt and a steadying hand to Kaelos. "It happens to everyone now and then. No one's perfect. It happens to me a whoooole lot. "

"Not exactly very Jedi of me"

Kaelos took Braze's hand and pulled himself back up to his feet. He closed his fingers around his weapon and hooked it back onto his belt. He'd been taught that a Jedi should always fall back on diplomacy and negotiation and he'd got so caught up in the moment he'd completely forgotten that.

"I fell too far into the fight, got caught up in it. It's not the Jedi way. The Jedi way is to negotiate before even starting a fight" he acknowledged. There was a pain in his face and he could tell he was already developing a black eye from his fall.

"The student still has a lot to learn" he accepted. Braze Braze gave him a lot of freedom, but at the end of the day Kaelos was still the student and Braze was still the Master. Braze still had a lot to teach that Kaelos hadn't learned yet. Kaelos had probably only learned a percentage of what Braze had to offer.

"We learn by making mistakes though" he mused with a slight smile and a wince. "Make the mistake once, and then when faced with the same scenario next time you don't make the mistake again." He wasn't entirely sure where it had come from, but it sounded good.

He believed it as well.

"It's not always that easy… If you'd tried to negotiate and I had just stabbed you, well—negotiating wouldn't have done much good either." Braze's voice was soft and, thoughtful. "You have to think on your feet, do what feels right in the moment, and trust that you did your best. The bad guys will try to muddle your thoughts and confuse you ... make you feel all kinds of ways..."

He studied Kaelos for a moment before stepping closer. "Stay still for me—pretty please."

Warm light began to gather around Braze's hands as he reached out, offering his energy to ease some of the hurts. It wasn't something he did often, outside of his nightly meditations with Force Light and healing—but he could. And maybe, just maybe, he felt bad that Kaelos had been hurt at all.

"Did you injure anything else?"
Braze asked gently.

"That's a useful trick. Bet it can't heal a bruised ego"

He said it with a chuckle. He'd read up on the power of Force Healing whilst he was on Courscant and it seemed like a skill he'd enjoy learning in the future. It was useful to know should he ever come across anything. He didn't overly need healing, but he wasn't opposed to it.

"I'm fine though, promise" he said simply, casting his eyes around. "Since I assume round two isn't going to be happening any time soon, how about I ask you another question?" he offered Braze Braze a smirk as he spoke. "What is this place? You seem familar with it"

The breeze blew through gently, rustling the pink and purple leaves that he'd been climbing through only a minute or two before. "I got a decent view from up in the trees. It's a stunning place" he admitted, stretching his back slightly.

He was still slightly sore, but he'd be okay.

Braze listened to his Padawan speak and let out a sigh, followed by a quiet chuckle.

"For that, you'll have to make peace with... yourself. Failure, embarrassment, or being bested stings because it challenges how we see ourselves. But growth doesn't come from always winning. It comes from learning how to lose, adapt, and try again without letting pride dictate your next move. The strongest people aren't the ones who never fall. They're the ones who rise without resentment."

It was the best wisdom he could offer. He had run into that same struggle more times than he cared to admit.

His gaze drifted across the landscape. "That older structure is called the Ashlanti Elysium. My friends and I found it abandoned a few years ago. Master Tirin decided to refurbish it into a Jedi temple and build onto its original structure. There's plenty of old relics and artifacts still lying around. One of the walls in a chamber higher up the main building even has a Force prophecy carved into it."

He gestured toward the coastline. "The caves by the water stretch for miles. They are filled with a material called Kyber Iron. It's peaceful here… too peaceful, almost. I can't help but wonder why the people who lived here disappeared."

"Master Tirin?"

It was a question asked with a raised eyebrow, a name he'd never heard before. Braze Braze had a habit of dropping random names into conversation. It was useful, Kaelos mused to himself. It allowed him to get a grasp of who's who in the Order.

"What do you mean, disappeared?" he followed up, a second question. Veridia was the most peaceful, relaxed planet he'd been on and he only just realised that it's because the planet was near empty. "People don't just vanish, I don't think that's how the laws of physics work"

He silently wondered if any attempts to locate the missing people had been conducted. As far as he was aware, the laws of the universe suggested that people couldn't just randomly disappear one day. He'd read quite a few books, he was fairly certin he was right.

"Well…" Braze hesitated, his gaze flicking to the crumbling structures around them, as if the answer might be buried beneath the decay. "I haven't found any real evidence of why they disappeared. No signs of struggle, no records left behind. The townsfolk seem to think they just… faded away, one by one, until there was nothing left of them but old rumors."

He exhaled, the weight of the mystery settling on his shoulders. "This place has always been secretive. Isolated. Whatever happened here, it didn't leave much behind. And that's what bothers me. People don't just vanish without a trace." His brow furrowed. "I do wonder what happened… but so far, I've got nothing solid to go on."
