Black Flag is less of a company and more like a loose alliance between numerous tinkerers, engineers and fringe scientists that make their living in the Free Cities of Malachor V, overseen by Darth Abyss who runs the business side of things. While designs and concepts are done by those individuals in places like The Tainted City, production is outsourced to the sweatshops of the Floating Market, and funding is often pulled from the Spheres of Ash. Known for their rather unorthodox approach to both business and products, Black Flag is a unknown variable to many, even to many working for them. Most things sold by the organization can be put in one of two categories: One one side there are highly specialized, hand made and customized weapons, droids and cybernetics that are reserved for the rich and wealthy. Everything else falls in the second group, things build out of scrap, simple but highly functional that are dirt cheap and easy to produce and repair.
One the bushiness side, Black Flag operates from the shadows, and only sells through contacts established prior to the actual deals, and even then only through a middleman to keep the group secret to outsiders. Because of this the name Black Flag rings very few bells around the galaxy, as most that have conducted business with them are unaware who they just brought weapons from. Common buyers, especially when it comes to cheap weaponry, are street level criminals, Fringe organizations, rebels and terrorists.
Black Flag is known to have very low morals when it comes to their products, and the question "Can we?" is far more often asked than "Should we?". Due to this many of the weaponry created by them would probably break a number of laws in most places in civilized space.
RATIONALE
Black Flag was founded by Darth Abyss himself, after having his eyes and ears all over Malachor review a number of talented mechanics and scientists that had found their way to the Free Cities. Company money was flowing strictly through the shadows from day one, and most of the individuals working for the Company are only barely aware who their employer is, or who their colleges are. This security goes both way, as there is no comprehensive list of the members of Black Flag, and all company intern business is handled personally, a effort that pulled many into the employ of the Abyss. Using the already existing structure on Malachor, it was a very easy step to combine them all into on efficient effort for both design and production, as Abyss already had control over the free cities from behind the curtain. Yet Black Flag is still slowly rising in the shadows, and constantly hires new brains to work for them.
