Birds of a Feather

Location: Tatooine, Docks

[member="Echo Kora"]

Another landing, another package delivered. This was an odd job, moving some datachips from point a to point B. Eliza had fallen in with some weird folks near Void station, and they gave her the job.

Given that the Crop Duster was aging she needed the Credits and desperately needed to eat. The docking fee took a chunk though. She winced as the port authority gave her the numbers.

"Really that high?"

"Yes girl, now pay up."

Frustration raged inside her, turning her pale skin bright red. She thought about blasting him on the thought, except she was too scared for that. No gunfights weren't her thing, unless it was life and limb. With a somber expression she turned her pockets out, giving what was her last credits away.

"Does that cover it?"

"No it does not. Fifteen shy."

"Ugh c'mon, I'm just trying to deliver something, I can come back with the credits!"

"No pay now, or leave port."

Echo had been strolling around the city all morning and what did she find. Nothing she was looking for but when she came to the docks she found what else a girl about her age who was being hassled by an older man. This was one thing Echo could not stand. She had it happen to her before and she would not let it happen to this girl.

Echo came in running at the man and before he even knew what happened Echo swung her right fist and landed an uppercut on him. He hit the floor. Echo took the credits the girl had paid the man and handed them back to her

Eliza managed to back up just in time as her rescuer came flying in from the side with the uppercut. Adding insult to injury and feeling brave with someone else by her side, she raised her boot and stomped on the Trandoshans scaly arm, pulling his twin Westar-35's free and shoving them in her pockets.

"I'll take these too for the trouble."

It was out of character, and she felt a rush go through her. Standing up for herself felt great. Then she turned, and smiled to the new girl.

"Thanks for that!"

She took the creds, stuck them in her pocket and glanced around nervously.

"Uhh should we like, get out of here?"

Eliza nodded, looking back at the Lizard man who was just now getting to his feet and swearing. They had to go and now, before he called over some of his buddies. That's when she caught the Black Sun symbol on his arm and winced. She had almost been scammed.

But what was worse was that now the suns would be hunting her.

"Can we do it quick like?"

She gave the girl her hand, getting ready to run. Wherever it didn't matter, she just wanted away from the lizard and his buddies.

"My names Eliza by the way."

Eliza smiled, shaking her hand and then letting go. The building was pretty dark and only small rays of sunshine were coming through the doors crevice. With one hand she reached into her back pack and then cracked a glow-stick, illuminating them in an eerie orange glow. Her hair was tossed and dirty and she was looking rather flustered.

"So now what? Do you know a Zorchla the Hutt? I'm supposed to drop these off and get my credits."

She reached into her pocket, pulling out the datachips and showing the other girl.

"Now I think we are trapped in here. For the time being anyways."

"Yeah I know the way. But yeah we are trapped for now." Echo says looking at the other girl and wondering what kind of life had brought her here.

Echo's clothes were tattered and her face was covered with soot and her hair blown into her face. She thought about her own life as a runaway. "Sorry about the mess."

"Let's look around, see what we can find to get away from here."

Eliza turned, moving the glowstick up above her head so she didn't cloud her vision with the light. The place was dusty and covered in sand and cobwebs. How spiders survived in such a harsh climate was beyond the young girl, but she had the creeps, big time. She was brave though, and never let it show.

"Where are you from Echo?" She asked, moving aside some junk with her grubby hand.

"Oh Naboo? I've been there once, beautiful place. Whereabouts on Naboo? I only saw Theed."

Her hands were still digging, looking through the junk. There was nothing here. Nothing very useful or that could be sold anyway's. With a sigh she turned, brown eyes casting about the room. There was something large and metallic in the darkness and she moved towards it. Her eyes were narrowed, and she was unsure what to make of it.

One hand dipped to the freshly stolen Westar, drawing the Silvery pistol and letting it hand loosely by her side.

The light showed brighter as she came closer and she laughed. There it was their exit!

At first she was tense, but now her body unclenched and her gut let go of the butterflies. She was a pilot, not a fighter and much preferred to keep it that way. When Echo sat down she cocked her head to the side, regarding her with a concerned face.

"What's wrong Echo?"

Then here eyes turned back to the ladder. She lifted her grubby hand, letting the glowstick shine on the roof. There was hatch there too.

"I think I got us our way out girl!"

"A Failure? No you saved me from that scammer back there. That was more than I was willing to do for myself. Here take one of these."

She fished into her pocket, dragging the other silver Westar-35 out and handing it to Echo.

With a warm smile she put a hand on Echo's shoulder and laughed.

"C'mon, you got us this far. Let's get out of here. Once I deliver the Chips we can get a bite to eat or something."

Then she grasped the ladder, climbing up the rungs one hand and one foot at a time. The old metal creaked and she grimaced, hoping she wasn't going to collapse it.

"C'mon stay baby!"

Clank, clank.

A few more feet and she hit the hatch. With the glowstick in her mouth she rotated it, moving the lever and popping it open. Sunlight and dust flowed in, stinging her nostrils and making her cough...

"Whoa!"

Ellie slipped her hand out, grabbing Echo by the arm and holding on for dear life. The ladder was swinging now from side to side, only a few more feet and they'd be free from it. Her teeth were clenched, and her muscles were bulging. Elli wasn't strong or powerful, she lived in space most of the times.

Gravity was not on her side.

"Hold on!"

She lifted her knee, placing her booted foot on the next rung and pushed, trying to lift Echo with her. She got about a step further before she felt the tendons and sinew in her arms bruising. She was too heavy to do it alone.

"Grab onto the ladder when I let go! I'll go up and then grab you from the roof!"

With no other option she let go, scrambling up the ladder to the roof and whirling, both hands reaching down for Echo.

She did well. Eliza was able to grab both hands, snatching her like a Krayt Dragon snatches it's meal from the desert caves. With both arms she pulled, using everything she had. Echo came up through the rooftop, and Ellie collapsed backwards, panting. Her brow glistened as the harsh twin suns beat down around them.

Wisps of hair floated in the wind, and she gave Echo a once over with her brown eyes.

"You ok?" She asked, between panting breaths.
