Faction Biology 101 (SJO Padawans+Allies)

It was not often that Taozi invited the Jetii into her hospital.

Even less that they were invited to the morgue.

However, when she overheard a young padawan make an absolutely ludicrous claim about how biology worked? She had to step in. How could they not know that the mitochondria is the powerhouse of a human cell?!

Standing in the center of the morgue, Taozi looked out at the prep tables, topped with the corpses of Sith the origins of which the Jetii did not need to know. Today, the Padawans would be getting a hands on lesson in biology...

By performing autopsies.

Pink hair tied in a braid, and dressed in pink gummy bear printed scrubs, Taozi checked off her list of tools she had placed on the medical carts besides each table, and waited for the Padawans to arrive.

Phalsi had a morbid curiosity about the human body, one that charts, pictures, ample reading material, and holo projections could not seem to sate. The opportunity to be a bit more, hands on, was something that she relished and was not going to miss.

After finding the proper directions from staff at the hospital, she arrived, dressed in lavender scrubs adorned with hearts and cats. The only thing that was readily available on short notice it seemed. Coming into the room, halfway in the door she paused, eyes on the bodies before looking to the woman inside.

"This, uh...biology?" She asked quietly, blinking a few times as she held onto the door. Either she was in the right place, or had taken a wrong turn somewhere and was looking at a crime scene.

Metis was excited and nervous. She had a basic knowledge of human anotomy, enough to bind a wound, treat an infection. Things learnt in the medical course of her training. Truth be told she was fascinated by medical field and had once or twice thought of going into medicinal field herself, combined with her desire to help people, she had even applied for premed at Theed University. In the end she had chosen academics but it was a close call. Metis didn’t exactly regret the decision, but she could help but reminise and ponder of what could have been.

Now that she was with the Silver Jedi, it was all the more likely that sooner or later medical knowledge and skill would be helpful even vital. Whether it be on the battlefield or part of relief effort.

Currently Metis was researching Bacta, it’s healing properties were remarkable. It could revive someone from severe trauma, even lascerated limbs. Even so it was relatively rare, usually not available on the front lines of battle. There even seemed to be a black market scam used by the Hutts and Black Sun, they’d mix together a sticky gooey composition usually some form of alcoholic or narcotic, sell it too desperate peoples at an exhorbitive price, then once they were hooked on the substance, become there dealers.

Metis sighed. The greed and the cruel would stop at nothing for more profit and power.

Metis glanced at the time and groaned. Not again. Once again she was late to a class. Metis hurried and threw on her robes. Rushing to the hospital.

“I’m sorry I’m late!” Metis said panting. “I was… studying….”

Metis recognised that it sounded like a poor excuse a neglectful student would make up, and it was one she seemed to be frequently saying. Nonetheless it really was true. Still she was getting both used to and annoyed by the patient exasperated expressions her teachers always seemed to have more and more frequently.

To say Ura didn't know much about biology would be an understatement. The majority that she did know came from first hand experience, particularly the interesting situation she and Acaadi Acaadi ended up in on that swamp world. So when she saw a biology class was open, the Lervon couldn't help but join. If she was going to help as more then a person with a lightsaber she'd need to know about this stuff. But the poor girl was about to be in for a shock.

"Um... Is this... biology? It looks more like a... a Razor-Tail den." Well.... This would be... interesting. She didn't even focus on Phalsi and Metis. Just... why here?

If there was one thing Xian needed, that was schooling. The girl could barely read and write, nor did she know anything much of science. Yet the young teen found herself getting into some sort of garb and being forced to put gloves on her hands.

Growling slightly, she made it difficult for them to get the net onto her wild hair. Not that she made it difficult on purpose, she just hadn't gotten her hair cut in a very long time. It was naturally curly and poofed out in many directions. She should have probably done something to help them but was actually enjoying the attention paid to her.

The gown was too large on her small frame and the pants needed to be rolled up a few times, but once she was ready, she walked into the examination room. Once inside, it was frightfully cold and she so wished for a place to warm up. Stopping dead in her tracks, she realized she wasn't the first to arrive and by the words of another person, she was actually late.

Skin turning as red as her covered hair, she noticed one familiar person here. If Ura could be called one. The sand girl, she had met once before on a beach of all places. Giving her a shy smile, she quickly moved to stand next to her. Keeping her mouth shut, she hoped she hadn't drawn too much attention to herself when she entered.

A biology lesson wasn't exactly one of the first classes she had expected to take right after joining the Silvers. Regardless, Sam was both excited and nervous to participate in said class since it was made up of Padawans around her age. The location however, was a little....unusual to say the least.

Sam cautiously entered the room and glanced about. Like everyone else, she was dressed in scrubs, going with blue herself. She kept her breathing mask around her neck just incase, although she knew it wouldn't keep out the smell of alcohol and other antiseptics. The young girl stood next to Metis Athena Elpis Metis Athena Elpis before giving Taozi Fuyuan Taozi Fuyuan a hesitant smile as she spoke softly. "Sorry I'm late."

Jasper never really been interested in human biology but knew the importance of it hence why he walked into the room to learn about it. He never knew when he would have to work on an injured person needing help that would benefit him. He looked over to the other students that were also here while looking for somewhere to sit. Sitting down on one of the chairs that were away from many of the students. Jasper said to the one teaching the class (
Taozi Fuyuan Taozi Fuyuan )

on biology:

“I’m here for the class miss.”

He stayed silent as he waited for the class to began, making sure he remembered some of the other students that he knew about that were here as a precautionary measure. He didn't know when the students around him could become a problem and didn't want to take any chances. He was like that for most of his life even though some would say it was pointless for him.

A biology class was one of the more exciting topics to Amani at the moment. If she was going to be a healer, having an understanding of biological functions would be highly relevant to her practice. She wasn't entirely sure what she was expecting when she joined the class, but it was decidedly not this.

"Uhhh..."

Amani surveyed the room a couple times, looking back towards the exit as if doubting whether or not she was in the right place. Some of the other students took the words right out of her mouth; At least she knew she wasn't the only confused biology student. Though that also meant that chances are this was, in fact, the biology class, which did not exactly make her more comfortable. She gulped back the lump in her throat and started mentally preparing for the worst.

Taozi let her hand holding the clipboard fall to her side, and placed a hand on her hip as the padawans began to enter. Most of them were late, but she expected as much from children. Probably didn't even want to get out of bed this morning. Oh? And one of them had an excuse at the ready?

Discouraging to hear from the so-called protectors of the galaxy.

She sighed deeply, and placed a hand on her hip at all the questions about if this was the biology class.

"You were directed here by my receptionist at the front, were you not? Yes, this is the biology class. Just because we are in the morgue, does not mean it is not a classroom. Listen well to what I'm about to tell you children...

Life is a classroom, whether you continue to learn or not is up to you."

She looked across all the padawans before her, making eye contact with each one of them, pausing only slightly at the... Was that one sand? Actually. Not important.

"I have invited you all here today because one of your fellow padawans said that the human liver is where the body stores digestive acids to break down food to be digested...

I almost smacked them across the back of their head."

Her eyes landed on who she assumed was the only male padawan to attend, and tilted her head to the side at him.

"Tell me, child, have you ever been in a morgue? Those seats are for the grieving after they see their deceased loved one. Come on, up up, you won't be able to sit for this lesson."

Gesturing for the boy to stand up, Taozi turned halfway between the padawans and the corpses they were to soon cut open, and began to walk back and forth as she explained her lesson plan.

"Today you will be learning about the inside of a human body, it's organs, and how they all work together to function and keep the body alive. To do so, you'll be performing autopsies on the corpses of these Sith monsters. I've already laid the necessary tools on trays next to each table. As there are enough for all of you, there will be one padawan per corpse. There are markings to guide you where to cut them open, and then you can work either are crudely or precisely as you wish.

"You need not worry about how much you damage the corpses, children. The Sith are monsters, and do not deserve any respect you would otherwise give to actual people.

Now then, all of you, pick a corpse and get to work. I'll answer questions as we go."

Metis blushed significantly. She was embarrassed bordering on mortified at the strong look of disapproval on the teachers face. She really was a good student, was always in the top 3% of her class at the Theed University. Metis had been in the running for valedictorian. Unfortunately admittedly it constant tardiness that caused her to loose marks. Metis resolved to excel in the class and prove her worth.

Metis snorted in disdain as the lecturer told her anecdote of human liver. Even she with her basic knowledge knew better. Her arrogant amusement vanished however when she heard the calas way the teacher referred to the cadavers. She gasped in shock.

“ Excuse me!”

Metis exclaimed outraged.

“Sith or not. Monster or not. These creatures deserve to be treated with the same respect as any other creature that once had life!”

Metis paused as she realised what she had just said.

“On Naboo even the animals we ate were treated with dignity and respect. All life is to be valued. Combat and war may be necessary at times, but never sought out. Even if one should always be ready for it. Those principles are even more important among the Jedi. It was how I was raised. If I’m willing to fight for it on a battlefield, I don’t see why I shouldn’t fight for it in a classroom as well”

Metis took a breathe in her impassioned rant.

So much for being the teachers pet. She thought ruefully.

“Particularly in a biology course, that we’re taking to hopefully one day save life.”

They had all entered, and after some back and forth about who was where and what they were doing, the talk of life being respected was brought to the table by the someone from naboo. She tilted her head slightly, giving the girl an exasperated look as she moved to a corpse. "The information we are getting here today is about basic understanding, not saving lives. You want saving lives, go hang out in the emergency room." Phalsi didn't snap at Metis Athena Elpis Metis Athena Elpis , but she wasn't exactly soft about her words.

She leaned against the slab the body was on, looking at the girl once more. "You can feel how you want to feel, just, treat yours with respect?" The silver haired girl looked back to the instructor, not ready to engage in verbal combat before a lesson.

Ura looked over to see Xian and Amani walk in. It was nice that there were some other padawans there that she knew. She nodded a little, some happiness bleeding off her. Her confusion was still at the forefront though. She hadn't worn scrubs, mostly because she was uncomfortable with it, and now she learned that they were going to be cutting into actual bodies. Ura was, needless to say, nervous. Especially when their teacher suggest her entire reason for doing this was someone not knowing something biology related. The Lervon shuddered, knowing that if this entire thing was because of one person, she'd probably be yelled at pretty soon.

She then heard a couple of students, one getting into a debate into about the morals of what the teacher said, which Ura could honestly understand, and another padawan with a more blunt feeling on it. Ura looked back to those she knew, clearly not sure what to do, or how to take this. At least she wasn't the first one to get called out on anything, as the doctor made the only male she could see get out of his seat. There was something odd about the woman's emotions though, something Ura couldn't pin down. Ura just closed her eyes, looking to at the body again.

"Um... ma'am.... I... where would I even begin?" Her voice had its usual lack of emotion, though a nervousness come off Ura in the Force. She hoped the doctor knew enough about her kind to understand this.

Following the teacher's order and question, Jasper quickly got up from his seat and said “No miss, I have not been to something… like this.” He trailed off a bit toward seeing the bodies. Jasper hated to admit this, but he was caught off guard when he was told that he, along with the rest of the students THEMSELVES were going to open the corpses in the form of autopsies. He honestly thought that he and the rest of the students were going to get a lecture on the human organs while the teacher herself would do the autopsies. And even still, Jasper would not be too thrilled to see the organs. He knew that their possibility of having to see human organs one day, but he didn’t think it would be now. He digressed however and shouldn’t have known something was up when he found out that the biology class would be held in the morgue. He didn’t think about it in the end because he thought that things were different here than at his home planet. He knew things would be different and thought it was still going to be a lecture in the end. Not a lecture that he was used to but still.

He looked over to the corpses and had mixed feelings over this. He then overheard the two other students talking about what the teacher wanted to do and he understood both female’s point of view. He didn’t like the idea of going into corpses like this. Considering the knowledge this was once a living being whose life had faded away from it and that body is the same as his own and others like him, Jasper wasn’t too keen on the feeling over this. In a way, doing autopsies on human bodies was, in a way looking inside yourself. Looking at the knowledge that once you die, your organs are doing to look like the organ that Jasper and co were going to look at had admitted freaked Jasper out a bit.

However, he also knew that performing autopsies on these corpses are arguably the best way to understand the human body and its organs. He didn’t know any other better way to understand the organs of his humankind other than reading books on them, but even then, compared to doing what the teacher is expecting them to do, has flaws. He knew that he didn’t have to do it. He could just walk away from this and go learn something else. But there was something in this mind, something that prevented him from doing this and he knew why he was getting this feeling.

In the end he stayed silent and waited for the other students to act. He didn’t want to deal with the other students giving judgmental glare at him opening up one of the bodies.

Alright, clearly today was not going to be the most normal of classes. Amani did say she was wanting to get more medical experience, after all. She silently cursed at herself for the wish, slowly shuffling over to the nearest cadaver. She peeked down at it in the corner of her eyes, barely getting a look before flashing her eyes back up at the rest of the room. The way Taozi Fuyuan Taozi Fuyuan spoke about the deceased caught her off guard, but considering how everything was already going, she decided against speaking out in any way that would put the attention on her. Amani just counted her blessings that at least the first Sith she met was already dead. She didn't dare be the first to start, opting to stand around awkwardly instead and wait for someone else to initiate.

The teen let out a small sigh as even more people joined the class. It somehow made the girl feel better about not being the last to arrive. Another thing that made Xian more comfortable was that she wasn't the only girl present. She already knew Ura and moved to stand next to her.

"It's nice to see you again, Ura. At least here I can tell where you end and the ground begins!"

Sometimes she didn't think before she spoke and just as the original red of her blush faded, it popped back up. Hoping Ura didn't take any offense at her words, she turned her attention to the teacher. Listening to her with all of her attention. Bringing her eyebrows down slightly, Xian had no idea how a human body worked and just knew it did. Never in her life had she seen on cut open in front of her and now she would be given that chance to do just that.

One of the students spoke up and mentioned on her world even animals were treated with dignity and respect. That all life was valued. Making a few other points, the Padawan just stayed silent. She would remember what was said though and take it all into consideration. These bodies might be Sith, but they were still people.

A different one addressed what had been pointed out and she suggested Metis treat hers with respect and if she wanted to learn about saving lives the morgue was not the correct place to be. Oddly enough, she couldn't entirely disagree with that statement, but knowing how bodies worked here would help on the field...even if these were dead.

Each of them picked out a body to work on for the day. Uncovering hers, she looked down at the figure on the slab. Grey and lifeless skin covered the cold, naked body. The corpse had long, black hair and Xian almost brought a hand to her own head. Almost not wanting to look, but still being drawn to...she looked at the face of the woman lying under the light.

"How did she die?"

A flash of faded memory flooded her mind and she saw again the faces of her parents as they shoved her out of a window and all she had was the view of them dying in a fire. Then it was gone. This woman resting here wasn't her mother, but she could have been.

Sam listened to Taozi Fuyuan Taozi Fuyuan as she explained exactly why she wanted to have this biology class to start. A student making a simple mistake about not knowing what the proper function of a liver was, which didn't seem so bad....okay, believing that the liver did the stomachs job was kinda bad. Then again, having a biology class in a morgue, with padawans, may have been a touch over board. When Taozi explained that they were going to be working on Sith and how it didn't matter what happened to them cause they weren't human, made Sam shift uneasily. She had an opinion on the matter, but decided to keep it to herself. Especially when Metis Athena Elpis Metis Athena Elpis gave her opinion on the matter.

The young cyborg scooted over to a slab where a cadaver lay under a thick cloth. She was having mixed feelings about this, cut open a cadaver made her nervous, but she also wanted to learn. Letting out a slow breath, she carefully pulled back the cloth. Underneath was a woman with blonde hair and Sith markings tattooed up her arms. Her body was very pale and cold, even in the force, but that was to be expected. Sam glanced away from the cadaver to the other students, just to see if they were as nervous as she was.

Pink eyes narrowed at Metis Athena Elpis Metis Athena Elpis as she tried to exert her childish thoughts on the matter to Taozi. This child clearly did not know who her teacher was. Taozi did however hum in approval when Phalsi Drynchen Phalsi Drynchen replied back with the honest truth. This lesson was not about saving lives, but basic understanding.

Even as the other students approached their cadavers, Taozi walked over to Metis, and stared down at her.

"Tell me, child, do you know who I am? Did you look into who your teacher was before you came here? This hospital? This planet?

"If not, I'll tell you now. I am Doctor Taozi Fuyuan Tal, Alor of Clan Tal, and I built this hospital with my own hands before I was even chosen to be Alor. Taanab is my home, and it's citizens my family. I have rebuilt my Clan from ashes to be a humanitarian powerhouse among the Mandalorians, one of the few clans who seeks to heal and rebuild instead of kill and destroy."

Taozi tilted her head to the side, and almost loomed over the padawan before her.

"I have seen things that would give you children nightmares. Civilians, men, women, and children, on Concord Dawn melted by acidic wasps unleashed upon the planet by The Sith Empire. The destruction of Mandalore, and devastation of Mandalorians after the Sith conquered our home. My own vod from Clan Mortui obliterated by the Confederacy just for defending this very hospital. Innocent Taanabians coming home to burned crops and destroyed fields. Until you have witnessed the sorrow and despair that I have?

"Do not speak to me of giving the Sith any form of respect, either in life or in death.

"
You're free to stay and learn, or leave and speak with my clan members in charge of the ER about an internship since you're so eager to start saving lives without the basic knowledge of how a human body works."

Turning around, Taozi walked to the front of the morgue, leaving Metis alone. Looking out at the other padawans, she turned her head to Xian Xiao Xian Xiao when the girl asked how the monster she was to cut into died. Walking over to her table, Taozi took the tag tied to its toe, and read it.

"Blood loss related to multiple slash wounds on her back. She also had severe head trauma."

Letting the tag drop, Taozi walked over Ura Iolar Ura Iolar , feeling the sandy girl's nervousness, and standing across from her. Releasing waves of calmness through the Force, Taozi let it flow throughout the morgue as she traced the dotted lines on the chest corpse. Shaped in a "Y" and extending to the shoulder joints and down to the pelvic region. There were similar lines on all the other cadavers, as well as H-shaped lines on the arms and legs, should the padawans want to look at muscle tissues directly.

"See these dotted lines? Take the scalpel on that table to the right of you, and make an incision about 1.5mm along them. For those of you with females, the lines will curve around the breasts if you haven't looked at them yet."

Taozi gave the sandy girl a small, encouraging smile, before walking back to the front.

"Once you all have done that, open up the chest area, and use the rib shears, or the small saw next to it, to cut the rib bones either between the cartilage in the center and the ribs, or along the sides of the rib cage if you wish to remove it in one piece."

Phalsi nodded to the woman, listening to the explanation of the doctor as she went ahead and picked up the scalpel. She eyed it for a moment, thinking about what she getting ready to do before shrugging and following the lines. Her cadaver was female she noted while rolling on her gloves, and Phalsi did as instructed to the best of her ability. Knowing how deep to cut was one thing, but in practice that was a very different ballgame. She felt like she had cut to deep at times, but kept going. While her gut twisted a little at the feeling of cutting someone open, her curiosity demanded and pushed her forward.

She came to a crossroads for a moment, staring at her handiwork and then wondering how to open hers up. "So, what...just...pull it apart? Like a sealed bag?" She made a small gesture of pulling over top the body in front of her, head tilted slightly with a concerned look. She wasn't dreading the task, more confused how to proceed.

Looking at one of the bodies afar from him, Jasper walked over it and looked at in examination taking notes of anything that shows wear and tear on the now-deceased sith. “Male... some scars on the body…human-like features.” He said, silently listing what he saw with the naked eye. This body seem to have been home to an least a sith that been in some battles. He wondered how this one died and who was the one to end his life. He caused him to stutter a bit at knowing that someone…something was able to take this sith life away. The thought started to pop in his head about the thing that killed him and wondered if the thing or person that killed the person before him did it easily with little to no effort or with difficultly. Think about it has caused to ask to the teacher, “What happened to this one here miss?”

He took some gloves that were near him and put them on, thankful that they were there nearby and also thankful he remember to put a pair of them on since he was focused too much on the sith body in front of it. Noticing the lines that are used to show where to cut the body in from the examination of the body earlier, Jasper grab a scalpel and waited for the teacher to answer his question. Not wanting to dive right in after he understood more about the body.

While a couple of the other students seemed to gather the ire of the teacher here, Xian tried to fade back into the woodwork. However, she had already asked a question and watched as Taszi walked over to the female body she was next to and lift up a tag attached to her toe.

She learned the Sith had also disrupted the life of the woman and she had some sympathy for her. Her own life had been disturbed by them too. Not to the same degree as the doctor though.

Luckily that was the only attention paid to her by the hostile woman. Picking up the scalpel, the rest of the room faded away as she started cutting very carefully along the lines provided for them. As the tip of her tool met with resistance, she would let up on the downward pressure and continue along the line.

Slowly, the skin came away to reveal what lay beneath. Since there was no blood flow, none drained out of the corpse and for a moment, her black eyes went wide. Even though she had been careful, some of the bones now had small nicks in them from the tip of the scalpel. Once she had the inside of the dead Sith revealed, she looked down with some confusion.

Blinking slightly, she raised the hand holding the tool to try and get the attention of Taszi once again.

"How do I get under the bones?"
