NAME: Bestion Darklighter

FACTION:

RANK:

SPECIES: Human

AGE: 29

SEX: Male

HEIGHT: 5'10"

WEIGHT: 231lbs

FORCE SENSITIVE: Bestion has some force sensitivity. He can feel the force and others who are strong with it in a way that's akin to gravity. He has no force powers, per se, but his connection to the force has given him some lucky breaks, such as when a falling object falls just to the side of his foot rather than directly on top of it or when an object that seemed out of reach just happened to fall into his hand.

STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES :

Strengths:
Engineering - Bestion trained to be an engineer and his extensive history working on infrastructure has given him an instinct for mechanics.

Piloting - Not only can Bestion repair various sorts of ships, he's also been trained to fly a variety of them to test their limits.

Force Sensitivity - Bestion's force sensitivity, while outside of his control, has given him several lucky breaks. It has also allowed him to instinctively avoid many unsavory force-wielding figures.

Weaknesses:
Low athleticism - Bestion is not the fittest man. While he definitely has strong hands, arms, and legs due to having a very hands-on career, he gets winded easily.

No Combat Ability - Bestion is not a hand-to-hand fighter.

Distrustful - Although kind, Bestion has suffered from various traumatic events that makes him socially reclusive. This means he has very few reliable connections and friends.

APPEARANCE:
As an engineer often shipped to many remote colonies, Bestion finds little need for keeping up outward appearances. His face is often scruffy and unshaven, his hair is typically unkempt, and he has put in little effort in exercising. Still, his eyes portray a kindness and his rather large hands show a stalwart work ethic that contrasts his lazy appearance.

BIOGRAPHY:

Parents
The story of Bestion begins most prominently with his father, an orphan who shaped himself into a respectable, mildly profitable, owner of a mid-rim shipping company. Bestion's father, Beryx, was adopted by Gina Darklighter, a spacer who spent most of her career maintaining ventilation systems in various space stations across the galaxy. Gina, who had originally taken Beryx in as an apprentice and assistant after an unfortunate incident with pirates left the boy stranded and helplessly caught in the system, adopted Beryx as her own child and mentored him through to his teenage years.

Beryx took on various work throughout the mid-rim, creating friendships with various dockhands and freight haulers who frequented the station. One particular connection paid of hugely for Beryx: a man named Lionel Dietz. Lionel had inherited a shipping company from his parents, but where Lionel had administrative knowledge, he had no hands-on expertise. Beryx, on the other hand, had growing connections and influence among various companies in the station - a very particularly useful asset. Lionel hired Beryx as an operations manager.

Ten years and several scandals left Lionel in a poor position to manage the company. After Lionel stepped down, Beryx was chosen to fill his role and the company prospered for a time. More importantly, it gave Beryx a chance to stay in one central location, where he met his first wife, Tessa. Tessa was a charming woman. Though introverted and not terribly adventurous, Tessa was extremely organized, punctual, and dutiful. Tessa was brought on as a consultant to Beryx, which allowed them to develop a fondness: with Tessa always keeping Beryx's impulses in check and Beryx pushing Tessa's comfort zone while giving her space. The two bore three children, Aiden, Kiora, and Bestion.

Childhood to Work Years
Of all of Tessa's children, Bestion was the one she was closest to. She was particularly drawn to his introversion and saw more of her in him than either of other children. Aiden, the oldest, was a natural born diplomat. Strong-willed. Ruthless. A charmer. Kiora was an engineer, through-and-through. A hot-headed tinkerer, similar to her father. Bestion, however, was a studier - a thinker. While gifted with similar engineering to his sister, Bestion's approach to problems was not as haphazard and destructive. Tessa particularly enjoyed watching Bestion stare at a problem, scanning various angles, before applying himself to them. Some of her most fondest memories, she would tell Bestion in her final days with him, were the quiet afternoons they spent together, working silently side-by-side on various projects.

Bestion's relationship with his father was strained. Beryx was not a family man, and while he often liked to work with his children on projects hands-on, Beryx was far more drawn to Kiora's methodical disassemble-reassemble approach to problems rather than Bestion's studious approach. Often, Beryx would confuse Bestion's silent thinking as absent-mindedness, which would lead to frustration on both of their parts. In the end, Bestion sought solitude over the company of his siblings and father after his mother's death and that disconnect lead him away from the family business. With some help from his grandmother, Gina, Bestion landed some apprentice work for a mining division of engineering and avionics company called Altus. The division, CETRA, was based on an asteroid that passed through the mid-rim, was run by Beryx's former business partner, Lionel Dietz - a fact that Bestion would learn later. Bestion would later be promoted to the avionics division of Altus, BREVA, as an aircraft and spacecraft mechanic and flight tester for several years before a labor shortage returned Bestion to the asteriod, Altus-CETRAx11 to head the mechanics and maintenance department for the station.

Incident of Altus-CETRAx11

The official report of the Incident of Altus-CETRA was that the mining crews struck a gas pocket deep within the asteroid. Several hours later, just prior to a maintenance crew rotation, several duct vents opened for a mandantory CO2 exhaust. As the vents opened, the asteroid's gas mixed with the CO2, contaminating the exhausting and making it heavier. When the vents closed, the contaminating gas remained inside the ducts to be recirculated in the air supply.

Once the gas entered the air supply, the effects were immediate: hallucinogenic episodes followed closely with paranoia and anxiety drove the station into a frenzy, turning the workers against each other. Images of the bloodbath filled vid-streams for days and a formal statement from Lionel Dietz was delivered days after the quarantine began. Few survived the incident.

At 0700, on the day of the incident, Bestion and crew began their rotation. He had confirmed multiple times, per protocol, that the CO2 ventilation process occurred without a hitch. However, at 0715, Bestion observed a pressure destabilization event on one of the doors near the docking bay. Security cameras, the footage of which was destroyed during the course of the event, showed Bestion that the door had been torn very uncleanly off of its hinges. Alert sirens sounded at 0717, according to both Bestion's and official reports, and staff were scrambling. Bestion, already dressed for exo-maintenance, went to his locker for his helmet, sealed it and engaged the environmental systems, and made his way into the corridors. The scene was horrific, Bestion reported. Men and women were grabbing their skulls, tearing at their hair. Eventually, they began to claw at each other. Ripping off ears, digging fingers into eye sockets. Chewing on fingers.

But Bestion's suit detected no abnormal gasses. And, indeed, Bestion noted a pattern among the madness. Groups formed among the insane workers...miniature squads of screeching and squawking lifeforms, executing tasks before eliminating each other brutally. Doors unlocked throughout the station. Computer systems opening access. Seeking to escape, Bestion made his way into the very CO2 ducts that were reportedly problematic and crawled his rotund form arduously to the emergency escape pods.

One last report from Bestion was of a cloaked figure, whose face had sewn seams for a mouth and solid black eyes underneath the hood of its robe. Official annotations to Bestion's report notate trace amounts of the asteroid's gas in Bestion's suit, possibly contributing to visions. Bestion was treated at Altus' top hospital for poisoning.

Post-Incident

Bestion's father, Beryx, after learning that Bestion had been working for Lionel Dietz, personally sought to confront Lionel about the incident. Assurances were made that Bestion would be taken care of appropriately. The last message Bestion had remembered seeing before receiving news of his family's business' raid and abduction was a personal message from his father, who promised to be on the first shuttle to retrieve Bestion and bring him home. After a news report showing Beryx's home raided, Bestion slipped out of the station that he had been assigned to and escaped to the outer rim, changing his name frequently until he can sort out his situation.
