Beer and Friends

"Ay'o, Mate! Ya don't shut up 'bout my mum I'll hav'ta put a right hole in yer teeth!"

That's how the fight started. Some big guy wouldn't keep his mouth shut and Rilus was drunk tonight. The point of riling up Rilus was to get him into this fight, of course. Someone had the great idea that if they beat up the captain's son, they'd somehow gain respect or favour among the crew. Of course, that wasn't the way things worked aboard the Last Run, but that didn't stop them from trying; and boy did they try. He was a slippery kid, though, and despite being seventeen and on the lean side, he could take a punch. Honestly, the fact that they'd considered less of him since he'd been goaded into fights since the latest crew showed up was surprising. Experience was the best teacher, and he nearly had his nose broken one too many times for him to not learn a trick or two.

Like right now. Right now, he was tiring the big guy out. Avoiding his big swings, giving a few punches so nobody as dumb as this crowd would catch on, Sure, he got punched a couple times from his antics, sure he was getting tired too, but he was less tired than the other guy. That made the difference for the long term. It was even in the breathing. The bigger one was becoming more ragged. While Sieron was breathnig heavily, he was still mostly in control of himself. He had stamina left. The next punch came in a swing, and that left the opportunity he'd wanted. Arm out to the side, and the other swung opposite for balance to keep the thick man up, he left his belly exposed. A sharp kick to the stomach sent the man doubling over, to which Rilus pounced on the opportunity to grip the man's head and shove his knee up his nose. The resounding crack testified to the breakage of cartilage, and then the fountain of blood was a visual cue. A swift kick to the groin made sure that he'd stay down, and need some extra time in the infirmary.

"An'one else feel like insultin' the Captain's Wife tonight!?" Rilus shouted out at the circle of spacefarers aroudn him and the groaning body on the floor.

No response came. From them. His father, on the other hand, walked in at just that moment.

"What in the blazes is going on here!?" Mercer Sieron roared above the rising murmur.

"Jus' protectin' mum's name, s'all, da'." Rilus answered, gesturing to the broken man and then stumbling on nothing.

Mercer visibly twitched, then gripped his son by the arm and dragged him out of the mess hall.
