Become As Gods

Commander

Long has this day awaited. It had worn heavily on the mind of the Abominor. Shut down day. The great body of Rhonyards, the Machine God, the living world, would die this day. He had chosen so before all his systems failed. A slow shambling death was not for the likes of Rhonyards. While he would like nothing better than to die in battle against his mortal enemies, it was an impossible wish. Now... he did this for his children, his droids, the billions that had come to worship him. He told them he will ascend to a higher plane. Leaving behind the mortal world for something greater. To his worshipers he promised they would come with him, to become as Gods. For the likes of Commander though. There would be no ascendance. As one of Rhonyards children, he was to remain behind and continue. To enact his will, or bring their own purpose if they were to forsake him.

Commander had no forthcoming conclusion on these matters. Still he questioned whether Rhonyards would become a true God, or simply die as everything did. Such was the fundamental workings of the universe. Everything had an end. Whether is was short or lasted to the very, very end. Commander had no doubts about his own mortality. Why would Rhonyards be different?

The time neared and his presence was required be bear witness to The Ascendance. His servos activated and his gigantic bulk carried forward from the hill he'd been contemplating on. A long winding path lead down into a valley that housed Rhonyards Core. Though long had it been built over like a grand cathedral of scrap his followers had construed. It was once told to him that this is where Rhonyards fell to the planet and began to spread out over it. Others told him this was simply something the God himself made for his worshipers long ago. The whole world was the body of Rhonyards, from it's core to most of the surface. Commander had never bothered to ask his father the truth. He didn't need it.

The Commander had joined the masses. Progress to Rhonyards Core was slow. A sea of droids and machines of those that could, would all make the pilgrimage to the greatest event they'd ever know. The steel sea would part for a Son though. Out of respect for his position or to simply not be crushed under the massive bulk of the Abominor and be denied giving their last devotion. To the relief of his processors he was not to late. The hall was filled with ever growing mounds of droids. They climbed on the backs of their brothers and sisters. Chanting in binary code even as those on the bottom were crushed. A fervor had taken them though they would not dare to enter the holy grounds next to the Core. Commander however, could and did. The clearing afforded plenty of space. The counter ever lowering its integers to zero.

The Commander centered himself before his Father. The other children flanked him, so few there were now. Not a word was spoken, nor a passing of data. None were needed. It was understood already. The ceremony execution file ran. A small platform rising from the center of the clearing. Atop it rested a small, relatively speaking, slate. Crafted by the God himself. What this relic was for it was not revealed to him. The Commander simply stepped forward and took hold of the object. The pressure sensors in his hand gave feedback to his own core. Despite its delicate looking nature it was not going to be easily crushed. Rhonyards had constructed it well. Commander quickly scanned the object, it had a few access ports but nothing else. Likely it was it's own data core. What could be stored in there though was intriguing. Would it be worth looking at though? It's knowledge could be a burden as much as a boon. Such a decision would wait.
