Material: Plasteel, Electronics, High frequency noise emitter and reciever, Screen.
Description:
The Sonar is a device created out of a neccesity to view targets while attempting to fire on them from afar. Walls have always been a huge problem for a sniper of any caliber; they blind you, stop your shots, or are just generally in the way. The Sonar is made to prevent this problem by allowing the user to 'see' through walls and other objects.
Of course, this seems like a novel idea, and it is based off of a sort of echolocation. The Sonar emits a high pitched noise that most humanoids cannot hear. The noise bounces around throughout the nearby area, pinging off of things and creating a visual image for the Sonar's user. This appears on the screen. It is a very specific noise which is created and recieved, and most outside noises are not registered by the device.
The visual image tends to not be very detailed however, just enough to allow for a successful job. For example: The device is advanced enough to mesh together some lines and recognize a set of them as a person, or to show up a box as a box and it cleans it so that it is easily understandable for the user. However, the Sonar cannot tell you such things as who the person is, what clothes they are wearing, or what their expressions or conversations are.
In other words, it's not advanced enough to allow for complete vision through walls, just basic images. The Sonar holds a range of about two-hundred meters.
Strengths:
Sonar: Allows for the basic viewing of things through solid objects.
Darkness and Flashes: Both of these are rendered null and void, as the Sonar operates based on sound and therefore would not be affected by either.
Weaknesses:
Constant Noise: While only heard by very few beings, the device does still emit a constant high pitched noise which could alert that can hear into it's spectrum.
Lack of Detail: The Sonar is not very detailed and cannot tell the user some important details such as 'Who am I aiming at?'
