Mon Calamari Shipyards have taken the lessons learned as well as the new development Technics developed during the previous projects to create a standard laser cannon with a higher rate of fire for point defense applications. The MC1001 Barracuda-class Point Defense Laser is a state of the are Anti-projectile and Anti-attack Craft weapon. It utilizes design and construction from previous weapon systems and offers a needed small counter weapon for point defense.
The Barracuda-class is a high rate of fire single muzzle energy weapon which utilizes a Large Energization crystal, which as much larger than the normal types used in laser scale weapons in conjunction with an advanced Laser Actuator and advanced Energy Converter Valve to give it a much higher rate of fire than most contemporary laser weapon systems.
Each bolt is processed and gauged so that the increase in the rate of fire can be countered by the cooling systems. Each bolt fired is less powerful than standard weapon systems of this size but given the high rate of fire equate the standard Laser Cannon in power just spreads more bolts per minute.
Mounted on fast-tracking mounts the Barracuda-class can track and destroyer incoming torpedoes and missiles, Target fast-moving attack craft, and even fire for effect operations which create a wall of defensive fire against almost any type of kinetic weaponry.
