SPECIAL FEATURES

  • Integrated rangefinder

  • Long-range communications array

  • Sensor array

  • Tier 1 Hexheim explosive reactive armor
Strengths:
  • Heavy firepower
  • Can jam enemy vehicle sensors and defend against sensor jamming attacks
  • Heavy defenses
Weaknesses:
  • Limited missile ammunition
  • Slow, ponderous
  • Infantry must operate some distance away from the vehicle because of the ERA's hazards
  • Very easy to detect on EM and thermal sensors once the main guns are fired
  • Tank becomes unstable in flight if flying altitudes are too high above ground (5 meters above ground or more at normal gravity)
  • Shields become unstable after around 5 minutes: holes in the shields appear at random for durations ranging from 30 seconds to 2 minutes, allowing enemies an opportunity to blow holes into the vehicle, especially as shield generators fail; the holes usually range in size from 0.5m wide to 2m wide, with more fire leading to larger and/or more common holes - a baseline area of 10% of the surface bearing holes in the shields if it wasn't fired at in the first 5 minutes, with a higher rate of hole formation if it came under more fire
Description: While the Hwacha was used in Silver Jedi service in multiple engagements, on Ossus, Tartarus, Mirial, Kashyyyk and Barataria, it was obvious on Barataria that the Hwacha was vulnerable to mobility kills since its tires were vulnerable to small-arms fire. In addition, the Hwachas' lack of shields and fragile frame cost the Silvers' many units whose losses could be prevented to an extent. The Barataria is the first vehicle equipped with the Hexheim composite armor, whose outer tiles explode upon contact with projectiles or upon being hit by weapons other than ion/EMP weapons, and it is also equipped with shield generators. However, it was found in trial runs that, due to the intense demands of powering shield generators and the main cannons, the shields become unstable after around five minutes of continuous operation. Also the electromagnetic plasma cannons have retractable barrels, making transportation easier, but it comes with a liability: when fired, they are very easy to detect on electromagnetic and thermal sensors and same goes, to a lesser extent, when the machineguns are fired to defend against infantry. The other cost of heavy defenses is low mobility, made worse if the driver drives the vehicle too high above ground.

The tank comes equipped with four flex-tube launchers, with a total of 40 rounds up to the size of a fighter-mounted proton torpedo, stored in the underside of the hull, two adorning each side of the main cannons, with the holes underneath them being combat de-ionizers. As with all projectile-based weapons, these missile launchers have limited ammunition capacity and the limited size of the ammunition magazine can become a liability in prolonged engagements. Finally, infantry must operate some distance away from the vehicle since tiles exploding can be a hazard if they get in and fire too close.
