Bando Gora Reavers -- let's sub them and put down the lore!

For those in the past who remember the PVE Campaign Omega Pyre / Protectorate made, we created the big bad called the Bando Gora Reavers.

They were an amalgam of star wars canon Bando Gora and the Reavers from Firefly -- along with some 40k aspects. I know [member="Siobhan Kerrigan"] has more info on that, but i want to actually get these down as a species sub and add all the wonderful lore for these big bad. The Bando Gora Reavers were a really fun PVE bad guy and I'd like to think that perhaps there are a few wild elements likely still out there... laying in wait to come across some poor freighter before descending like .. well reavers.

I have been thinking about doing this for a while, so I'm happy to help.


Basically, the Chaos canon Bando Gora were a reimagination of Komari Vosa's rather obscure darkside cult we see in legends. They were strongly influenced by the Reavers from Firefly and the Chaos worshippers in Warhammer 40k.


They worshipped a pantheon of dark gods, who were believed to dwell in Chaos, and indulged in rather heinous acts such as slavery, human sacrifice and alchemical experiments on prisoners to create monstrosities such as Reavers, who served as their footsoldiers. They also used Sithspawn and demonic war machines.


There's also so-called True Reavers, who are tougher and can use the Force. Presumably they were Force-users transformed by Bando Gora narcotics. Their powers tended to be stuff like Force Drain, Lightning and Choke. We wrote Reavers as being very strong, vicious and hyper aggressive. They like human flesh a lot. Alignment-wise they're clearly Chaotic Evil.


The Omega Protectorate/Pyre fought a long, gruelling campaign against them. Alas, two big threads about fighting them were killed by the board wipe. Ultimately, Siobhan led the Protectorate forces to conquer the Bando Gora's hellish homeworld, Gehenna, slaying their 'Dark God' Abaddon (a former Inquisitor from the old Galactic Empire) and destroying their subterranean city in the process.


Gehenna itself is a hellish, absurdly hot world with no atmosphere, plant or animal life. After being crushed, the Bando Gora splintered into several cults, one of which was crushed by the Lords of the Fringe. Amusingly, the Bando Gora began to worship Siobhan as another Chaos Goddess (The Kerrigan). Many years later, Firemane and the Eldorai invaded Gehenna again and exterminated Bando Gora remnants, setting up a base. They also tried to terraform the planet, but that project was eventually given up.


The Bando Gora had a bit of a revival during the Netherworld event, when they attacked several planets made vulnerable by Akala's antics. It's my personal headcanon that some Bando Gora began to worship Akala, but that's just me. The evil machine cult Archangel has acquired some Reavers and Bando Gora drugs for its own purposes...and has made a Sio clone, perhaps to lead them one day! [member="Anaya Fen"] and Archangel also unleashed a horde of them on Contruum way back.

As for the cult's oft-noted tendency to bounce back from oblivion, I can add at least one thread to what's been cited. Mara ran into.some people trying to resurrect that legacy on Gehenna. I'll see if I can dig.it up

The Omega Protectorate's first all-out battle against the Bando Gora. Alas, 90% of the thread was killed by the wipe, so only the first three posts remain. Basically, an OP Star Destroyer was ambushes by a Bando Gora fleet. Whilst the space battle took place, an OP force led by Siobhan, including Jorus, HK-36 and Maelion Liates boarded the battleship.


A lot of bloodshed ensued, including the summary execution of Bando Gora cultists, then the group confronted the Bando Gora Primarch (who coincidentally looked like a Chaos Space Marine Primarch!).


Siobhan used the Dark Side for the first time when she and the Warlord blasted each other with lightning. She got her leg hacked off by a chainsaw blade, then narrowly managed to kill the Primarch. I think Jorus lost his cybernetic eyes and his shotgun (before recovering it in another thread). HK carried Siobhan away, the ship blew up.


Oh, and Jorus used Lix Rounds on a Bando Gora witch. Hmm. I seem to remember all sorts of obscure trivia.

After years of fighting, raids and skirmishes, the Omega Protectorate launched its (until then) largest military campaign under Lady Protector Tegaea Alcori and Exarch Siobhan Kerrigan to end the Bando Gora.


While a Protectorate naval task force battled the Bando Gora fleet in space, a Protectorate army corps and Omega Pyre forces landed on the planet. Battling legions of Reavers, war machines and Sithspawn, they fought their way into the Bando Gora's subterranean lair. Vicious fighting took place throughout the manifold caves and tunnels, demanding a high price in blood.


Eventually, Siobhan confronted and duelled Abaddon, the Bando Gora's overlord. During the course of the fight, the mountain's ceiling was damaged and caved in, causing a big cataclysm. Whilst Abaddon fell to his death in a lava pit, Siobhan was saved by Maelion Liates. Many Protectorate soldiers, but even more Bando Gora, perished. The menace was ended, but at great cost.

A plotline thar was supposed to take place in the above thread, but got its separate one because we ran out of time. A task force led by Siobhan and HK-36 assaulted the Bando Gora Machine Cult on Gehenna. Unlike most Bando Gora, these ones venerated the machine and deployed mechanical abominations instead of Reavers. During the battle, [member="HK-36"] was separated from the rest of the group and briefly fell under the sway of the 'Machine God' after slaying his Champion, an evil HK droid from the planet Mechanus. This led to a duel between him and Siobhan, until the droid regained control over himself. Subsequently, both friends defeated the Mechanical Dragon, whom the cultists worshipped.

Fringe forces assaulted a Bando Gora fleet intent on raiding the Hebrides. When Fringe troops led by Ashin Varanin and others boarded a Bando Gora remnant command ship, a Rebel Alliance force including Jorus Merrill, Siobhan Kerrigan and Mia Monroe took the fight to the Reavers, too. This resulted in a rather unlikely team-up as both groups slaughtered Chaos worshippers with gusto, and discovered that the cultists had decided Siobhan was another Chaos Goddess.

Firemane and Eldorai troops invaded Gehenna again, shortly before the return of Akala, intent on setting up a base and stamping what was left of the Bando Gora Reavers. Bando Gora remnants and monsters were exterminated in a brutal, but somewhat one-sided battle and an outpost was established in the ruins of the old city beneath the surface. Moreover, Firemane initiated a terraforming project, intent on giving the planet a breathable atmosphere and making the climate less oppressive. Whilst raiding a derelict Bando Gora command ship, Firemane/Eldorai troops led by Siobhan, Mirien Valdier and Grand Seraph Aeda Shaytari encountered and battled Klaxxi, who gave them a brutal fight.

Fantastic. Got the template up to help with the board wide building of this thing.

Anyone have any amazing illustrations or artwork that would work for them? We want ships, reavers themselves, anything that you think would work amazing with them! we may not get them all, but it would be great to have a small library.
