Back to the lab tonight

Corey's OOC

And where were the spiders
Dusting it off, Marek nodded. He was back in the lab tonight. He had a few things he needed to do, but first was to pass off a bit of data to someone he trusted. There was [member="Jennifer Blanchard"], whom he was hoping would be able to take his place some day, or at least be a lot more useful for the galactic technology battle that was ahead. She had the skills and the Force powers to influence machines. He was an entertainer, and able to feed off emotions. That was what he could do, and why he made a casino company after sending Haor Chall into Santhe. But what he had here was a chunk of code, something partially created with [member="Jared Ovmar"] and Ty’rel Holdings. It was to be a computer system to put the res to shame. He was hoping that the people he was bringing in could handle this.

Walking into the office on Hypori, a safe-lab that was given all the SpyNet tech to keep it off the market and on its own private network. There was a lot of work here, and Marek was willing to pay for it, but he wasn’t a designer. That was for the Sasha Santhes and the Gerion Ardiks of the galaxy. He wanted to get them on this project, because well, it would be something that would spawn off a lot of operating systems, he hoped. Something new, something artificial and exciting. Something that would save lives.

Looking to [member="Hannibal Oryen"], the Hegemonic Automaton rep, and Jenn, he nodded. “So, we’ve got here is a lot of data. Something near 200 entries over the course of at least that many days. We’re trying to create a system to help the Techno Union, and help the other companies we hold dear.” Can we get a Heil-uia? “And I want you two, and whoever you absolutely trust, to work on it. Bring it into being.” He looked the pair over again. “Questions?”

This was all sorts of familiar and normal for Jenn. But the trick of it was, it was all legitimate now. She wasn’t stealing code and hacking computer systems. Her employers, the Hegemony and the Techno Union were both giving her all the tech she could ever need to succeed. It was nice. And they were teaching her to use the Force, and giving her a stipend. She had to cover fuel for personal use, but they even gave her vessels to use in combat and missions. So, how nice was that? Super rad! She figured Marek would call in others, she was here to try to break the code, really.

Someone else would have to build it. And that was apparently the engineer that was in the room with them. Jenn was informed as to what was going on and looked over at the terminal and the few servers. This was going to be a lot of code. She shook her head, because, well, pre-briefed. She wasn’t in her Obsidian Armor, but she did have the Holodriver from Ty’rel holdings.

And her own unique datapad. The trick now was getting to work. “I’m all set.” She nodded.

Hannibal was reclined in his chair, in the typical Oryen style, feet up on the meeting table. One arm rested on the arm of the chair, a pen twirling whimsically in his hand. Nowadays, all Hannibal really did was draw up schematics and pick apart programming. Dull stuff. He was itching to get his hands moving for real and do some legwork on a project like this. It was calling him, like the way the Fringe had called him that one time when a bunch of people turned into spooky ghosts and fell into the Netherplanet or something stupid. He hadn't paid much attention to it all because Hegemonic Automaton still sent him his paycheck.

"I ain't sure I'm followin' correctly." He eventually said, setting down the stylus with a click. "What kinda aspects are we fiddlin' with 'ere? Counta-slicin'? Administratin'?"

Marek figured that Jenn would be well versed in what was going on. The girl was his basic assistant after all, and taking a bigger role now that Sasha stole Alana from him. Why did she do that? Because she was good with a repeater? Or because Marek was sleeping with her? Whichever it was, Marek did miss having the blonde to manage his affairs. She was good at it, Jenn, well, he’d figure her out sometime.

As for [member="Hannibal Oryen"], this Fondorian seemed to be pretty easy to work with. Already feet up on the desk? Did Ardik know that Starchaser would get along with the engineer? It almost felt hand picked. As for what they were doing? “Well, Jenn kind of has the run down that I made for her, but… we’re hoping to make an AI that can monitor administration for the Techno Union, possibly monitor and help program additional virtual or artificial intelligences, so that they may assist our CEOs. Additionally, whatever we can spawn off of it, for assistance of all the appropriate members of the Techno Union. We’re looking for administration knowledge, slicing knowledge, hell if you can even throw in a combat protocol, for defense and monitoring of enemy forces, that would just be icing on the cake, as they say.” Who says? He had no idea.

“The real trick, and the reason we’re giving you two extra pay for this, is I’ll be honest. I run casinos, and I manage people. I am not an engineer by a long stretch, and computers? I’m lucky I can find the HoloNet sites I need when I need them.” Old school, sort of. “So I want you to have free reign, see what you can come up with. But we’re looking for something that will assist in the day to day running of a corporation, or the Union itself, and be able to spawn smaller entities to help other members of the government and Union.” Simple, right?

"Geeze-Louise, daddy-o." Hannibal said.

That was an impressive range of features. If that was the route they wanted to go... Well, Hannibal had a few suggestions.

"Sounds like we's goin' for a jack-a'-all-trades kinda gig. I get that; I respect that. But if we're gonna be givin' 'em to all the different CEOs, why don't we let those guys tailor each AI to their needs? Say boss-man numero uno of RinkyDink Industrial wants all that administratin' stuff taken care of. Then boss-man numero dos of PiddlyNiggits LLC wants somethin' t' handle his clandestine slicin' whatchamacallits. Let's make a vanilla-AI, but 'ave it be ultra adaptable to learn quickly as it gets used to doin' certain tasks."

Hannibal liked the sound of it. But Hannibal also liked the sound of his own voice, so maybe that was why he thought it was a good idea.

Marek couldn’t help but laugh. Something about the Hegemonic Automaton’s lead engineer just struck him funny. Looking over at [member="Jennifer Blanchard"], who was being quiet, and the back to the engineer, he nodded. Daddy-O? What year was this? 1955?

“And that is why I brought the two of you along. Jenn knows what system Haor Chall has, and they’re interested in getting their name on the product. But you, Mr. Oryen, you’re clearly the brains here. Jenn can provide support, but you’ve got the ideas. Let me clear this up. You’re thinkin’ of some kinda ‘Eve’ style creation? Mother of all AIs? I know that I could seriously use something to handle computer systems, both protecting them and… helping break through them. But if we can create something that can spawn off other AI, or influence future creations, I can not see a downside to this.”

See? Being in charge of the Techno Union only meant that he knew how to coordinate people. Delegate was the skill.

Hannibal tapped his chin in contemplation. AIs spawning AIs sounded like a recipe for disaster. If the mother AI went rogue, then they would have an AI running around spawning other rogue AIs. That was the kind of stuff that haunted Hannibal's dreams. In a world ruled by droids, he'd either be worshiped like a god for designing them or strung up for accomodating their "enslavement." Not really a fun time for him in either event, since being worshiped like a god wasn't really all that fun if there weren't any hot Chiss chicks left in the galaxy to do it.

The Fondorian coughed, remembering he should be thinking about something else other than Chiss women in scanty outfits. "It'd be possible, sure, but you'd be playin' with fire there, chief. That's a one-way-ticket t' some Omni-style stuff all ova again. Ain't exactly what I'm thinkin' we should be rememberd for, y'know?"

So, it was up to [member="Hannibal Oryen"] to plug in the overlord and let everyone compute pi all day? Yeah, did we mention that Marek was not an engineer? Software or otherwise? Hope so, because an AI spawning AIs that may wipe out the Chiss would probably put a damper on galactic relations. And it’d get rid of some wonderful commanders. When the engineer started speak, Marek nodded, watching as Jenn started playing on her datapad.

Corey could NPC one of his alt with this account, so there.

“That’s… yeah, rookie mistake. What do you have in mind? Focusing the product? Something to work on slicing and counter slicing? Giving it the cover of a simulated intelligence that works as my personal administration assistant?” Y’know helping run the Techno Union was important, even if he had one too many nubile interns for that.
