"Alright, Vera, you know the drill," Valery began as she stood by the door, ready to leave for a longer assignment. She then glanced briefly at Capris Halcyon , who was going to babysit, but focused on her little star again after. "Be nice, don't forget to brush your teeth, and have fun, okay?" Valery grinned and Vera just nodded before looking at Capris for a moment. "Okay, mommyyyy," she said with a big smile and a small hop on her feet.

"And uhm, can we have ice cream tonight?" she then decided to try.

Valery sighed, looked at Capris, and rolled her eyes playfully, "Fine, but not too late. Or you won't sleep again." Valery chuckled, leaned in closer, and pulled Vera into a big, tight hug that made her little girl squeal. She then pressed a kiss against her cheek and stood back up. "Thanks again for watching her, Capris. I trust you can handle it, but you can call me if you need me, okay?"

With that said, Valery turned away and opened the door, "I'll be back home soon. Love youuu~" she called out with a sing-song voice, and unless there was anything Capris wanted to ask, Valery departed for her mission.

Which meant...

"Can we go to the park? Or the arcade? Or do something fun?!" Vera asked with a huge grin, as she turned to Capris. The young Padawan was like a big sister to her, so why not have some fun?!

“Got it Valery. Stay safe.”

One babysitting gig paled in comparison to everything the Nobles had done for her. Even if it was a bitttt outside her ballpark, Capris wasn’t one to shrink from a challenge. Not when it came to cementing herself as viable big sister material.

Still the performance anxiety was still very much felt.

“Pshh course we can.” Capris waved off handedly, trying to exude pure casualness. Anything to win brownie points with the young Noble because god-forbid she came off as some lame narc. “Do I look like a drill sergeant to you? No- didn’t think so. We’re absolutely going to the park. Now suit up.” Holstering her saber, Capris wrangled a coat from the foyer which, through process of elimination, could only be Vera’s.

Opening the door for the young initiate, the girl blinked in delayed realization, “And uh- lead the way maybe. Dunno where I’m going, never been to a park before.”

Hopefully it wasn’t some large open space someone could easily snatch a kid from. That’d suck.

At the suit up, Vera was already running to her room to grab her backpack. She stuffed her teddy bear inside and brought along some snacks and all of her usual toys and trinkets, then sprinted back. Capris was already waiting with her coat, so she put it on with some help and bounced up and down excitedly.

"This will be funnn!"

Vera grinned, stepped through the door, and then looked at Capris, who had no idea where to go. Vera did know the way, but it meant taking a taxi and crossing some streets and open terrain, so... she snatched Capris' hand. No matter where she went, mom told her to always hold hands if it was a dangerous place.

She wasn't going to make this an exception.

Soon enough, they made their way down the elevator, across the street and found a taxi that brought them to a landing point close to the huge part on Coruscant's surface. Usually, she went to a smaller park with her parents, but Capris didn't know that, so might as well go to the big and fun one!

Of course, there were also a lot of people there.

"Ahhh, look! Slides!" she pointed at the big slides, then turned to look at the big climbing frames.

Fortunately for Capris, Vera’s sense of self-preservation seemed very much intact for a kid her age. Miraculous really.

So the padawan could only blink back mild surprise as the littlest Noble slipped a hand into hers, clearly not used to the gesture.

That hesitation however lasted only a moment before Capris squeezed back, a soft grin shaping what was typically a chronic rbf. Damn right it was going to be fun. She’d pull out the stops for Vera to have even a remotely good time.

With surprising ease, Vera dragged the pair towards a couple behemoth-sized slides, to which Capris could only quirk an amused eyebrow. “Really think you can make it all the way up there half-pint?” The tease was abundantly light-hearted. A challenge really. Though in all honesty it felt sorta nice to not be the shortest person in the room for once.

Not like that was likely to last long once Kahlil’s genes kicked in.

"Uh-huh!" Vera exclaimed in response to the obvious challenge. Only now, she let go of Capris' hand, so she could storm forward and begin the climb up the slide. But rather quickly, she realized there was a faster way up and show off for the young woman she looked up to all at the same time.

A small burst of Force energy followed, turning a small hop into an unnaturally big jump all the way up the slide. Other kids were startled immediately, but Vera just giggled and waved down at Capris.

"Come ooon!" she called out before she sat down, threw up her arms, and squealed loudly, as she made her way down the big, fast slide. Her inner gremlin loved the rush of adrenaline, so she wasn't scared of anything and only wanted more and more. But while Vera was having a blast, Capris would feel something strange.

A warning of sorts, through the Force — it was only a faint shiver but would make her feel as if she was being watched.

Capris felt it. Like an itch that couldn't be ignored.

So all while Vera disobeyed gravity with reckless abandon Capris could only narrow her eyes.Trying to weed out exactly what measure of danger was beginning to rear its head.

"Hey kid."

She made a point not to use Vera's name, or give any such confirmation that it was in fact the Noble's daughter barreling down the slide. There were eyes. She could feel them. And despite the flare of dread that notion brought, Capris strangled any outward reaction. She needed to get Vera out, calmly.

"You have no respect for the laws of nature do ya?" Despite her instinct to dart to the mouth of the slide, Capris took measured steps, trying her damndest not to give any indication she was on edge. That would likely only spur their audience into action. And given she was without her saber, that was a risk she wasn't keen on running.

"Okok so you're going to hate me for this, buttt I think we better make our way back. Promise we'll get ice cream on the way."

Vera was still giggling when she reached the bottom of the slide, hopped up to her feet, and seemed ready to run back and go again. But when she noticed Capris approaching, she stopped and tilted her head a little while those multi-colored eyes locked on to the Padawan like a heat-seeking missile.

Why wasn't Capris playing with her?

"You have no respect for the laws of nature do ya?"

The question made Vera giggle and hop up a little, but what followed instantly bummed her head. She pouted, looked around, and flailed her arms up and down, "But we just got here!" she exclaimed, and even the promise of ice cream didn't seem to work. She had been looking forward to some playtime with her big sis for days now, and she already had to leave.

"Nuh-uh, I wanna try more slides first!" And with that, Vera ran away, giggling and laughing while she tried to reach the next slide before Capris could catch her. With her running away, that sense of danger began to grow incredibly, and it felt as if it was closing in from all around her.

But who was the threat? There were people everywhere,

Capris let a quiet “fuck” slip as Vera booked it. This wasn’t looking so good. Every sense of hers was screaming danger in a million different directions.

“Half-pint I swear to Ashla-” With both annoyance and panic biting her heels Capris moved. Desperate enough to give chase as she tracked her peripherals for any suspects. After a mental back and forth, Capris reached out with the force. Intent on lassoing Vera back to her side. It was an admittedly hasty and conspicuous plan of action, but leaving Vera undefended was certainly a worse choice.

"Weee!" Vera laughed and grinned when Capris yanked her back with the Force, but when a stun round struck the ground where she otherwise would have been, Vera understood that something was wrong as well. This wasn't the first time people had come after her, and while the shot was non-lethal, it was still a shot fired at the little Noble.

"Caprees!" she yelled, now with some fear in her tone.

Another stun around hit the ground, closer to them this time, and the danger Capris felt made it obvious enough that someone was targeting them both directly now. At the same time, from behind her, two masked men rushed into the playground with blaster pistols in their hands. Chaos erupted immediately, as people began to run. It helped obscure their line of fire a little, offering Capris more time to respond.

But they were outnumbered.

"Do we call mommy?!"
