Companion Esk - Worlds of the Tusk
Companion Esk World of NW -3 is One of the most technologically advanced worlds, NW-3 is at Renaissance level, with gunpowder and early steam technology, all tightly controlled by feuding noble houses. Dominant species include Twi'lek and Epicanthix. The Force is venerated and studied 'scientifically.'It was during Chloe's excursion to NW-3 that she discovered a vast technological expo fair currently going underway. Here various Epicanthix Scientists and Inventors would bring in their inventions that they have been working on for the past year, seeking to gather admiration and respect from their peers -- maybe even make a couple of credits for their trouble! Or better, a grant!
The Babylon 1000, is no such exception, a very interesting mechanism where a small crank will turn the appropriate gears and allow a select frequency to channel to the energizing crystal ( tsil ) to allow the ability for the wearer understand any language for as long as the hand crack will continue to resonate said frequency. (Normally about fifteen minutes)
As the Force is studied 'scientifically', the true reason that the Tsil is a mineral based life form has not been discovered as of yet, and they are merely seen as a sort of energy spook crystal able to allow those who are Force sensitive to understand a different language. Tsil, unknown to the inhabitants of NW-3 could reflect and amplify light and life energy. This increases the Force sensitivity, and as Tsils communicated via telepathy by putting images in another's mind. Oldtimer religious leaders known as "Listeners" could hear these "voices.
Tsil can process information, so much that CCIR technology allowed multiple automatons to be controlled by large central computers rather than a large number of miniaturized droid brains. The technology relied on near-instantaneous transmission between programmable crystals. The need for only minimal internal computers cut the construction cost for such droids although the cost of programmable crystals proved high until Loronar began enslaving Tsils from Nam Chorios in order to accomplish the instant communication needed.
Much like a Tizowyrm, it was discovered that the Tsil were able to translate the languages of other species into their language. More work and modification would be required to allow the Tsil to properly convey an ability for the wearer to be able to communicate back -- and there are a few things lost in translation when certain words are not able to be properly conveyed.
This could be due to the Epicanthix's natural ability to block mental use of the Force, where as their Twi'lek Force sensitive counterparts were able to make use of the Tsil's Force enhancing abilities.
Strengths:
- Able to allow the wearer to understand any language for 15 minutes ( per crank)
- Small, easy to fit over ear.
- Can be modified later on to potentially allow the wearer to communicate back and last longer.
Weaknesses:
- Requires to hand crank every fifteen minutes to maintain the frequency.
- Some words may be lost in translation and not be properly conveyed.
