APPEARANCE
Sex: Female
Height: 5'6 feet
Weight: 1396 lbs
Eyes: Ayla Mao's eyes have the odd tendency to switch between colours. Normally, her eyes look plain-black, some-what distinguished from her pupils; however, upon closer inspection one notices that her irises are actually a really dark shade of brown. Seems pretty normal, given how frequently dark-brown is mistaken for plain-black from afar, but the 'oddity' in Ayla's eyes lies not in the fact that they are brown, but in the fact that, sometimes, they really are black. On occasion, one might find Ayla's eyes to be pitch-black; so black, they blend in with her pupils, often inducing her the reception of remarks such as 'soulless', or the like. As if her eyes were a round pool of pure darkness, without known depth. In truth, her irises really do switch to a pure-black that blends in with her pupils; from a logical stand-point, one might attribute this odd tendency to some sort of chemical in the brain temporarily altering the colour of her irises. From a more 'mystical' point of view, one might say it was a result of the force interfering with her physical traits. For whatever reason, the fact remains.
Skin: An interesting story lies behind her current skin-tone, actually. As an avid combatant above-ground on Negsovern, Ayla was one of the immensely few Alunrovaan that had actually possessed rough, scarred and scabby skin. Over-exposure to the sun rendered her burnt, and easily suject to illnesses such as skin-cancer; however, Ayla's exposure to her sun was fairly evened out throughout her body. As such, after enduring the pain, at the end of the war with the Yuuzhan Vong with Ayla's escape to one of the ships to go off-world, Ayla peeled her skin, and while some scars still show, the peeling revealed a new layer of extremely sensitive, and freshly white skin. Whether or not the over-exposure has had any permanently adverse effects on her aside from peeling, it has yet to be revealed.
Hair: Claimed to be the red hair of the Harbinger at times, Ayla is more so just referred to as a brunette, though in Alunrovaan culture that's rare enough.
General Appearance: To be written in-depth over time.

Strengths/Weaknesses
  • Racial Str/Wea
- Strength/Frailty - Compared to the average Alunrovaan female her age, Ayla is a tad stronger. The muscle fibers within her body are a fair percentage more abundant than the average--at the level of an elephant. On the flip-side, this strength makes Ayla all the more vulnerable. As seems to be a trend in the royal and imperial families, her bone-density and strength is not as well developed as her muscles. The increase in muscle fibers makes for an increase in weight beyond compare amongst her peers, further burdening the rest of her body. For the most part, Ayla is generally experiencing quite a bit of pressure and therefore pain 24/7. Furthermore, her full strength is held back by her lack of bone-development; using her strength incorrectly and wildly can and will result in bone-damage, let alone organ damage considering their fragility. Furthermore, it's difficult to supply the necessary nutrients and energy to these incredibly powerful muscles, burdening the cardiovascular and respiratory system all the more.

- Agility/Detail-Oriented - As aforementioned, Ayla possesses more strength than the average Alunrovaan female. Just as she possesses more strength, it is physically required of her that she is more attentive to her movements, more in control, and more precise. To analogise it, Ayla's muscles are like water in a cup, filled to the very brim, and the cup is made of her bones. Just the slightest wrong movement, and water will spill; if Ayla is not careful in how she moves, her muscles might crush, crack, or break her bones, even burdening the mass through sheer pressure and weight. While unfortunate, this has granted Ayla the trait of agility, with reflexes and ability to move being a cut above some others.

- Overdeveloped Processing Speed/Elongated Temporal Sense - Ayla possesses particular reflexes to a supernatural extent, able to process information relayed to her brain at speeds far faster than most others of different species'. Naturally, she also suffers the 'prolonged experience' of situations as a result of perceiving time at a different pace from most people. Ayla in particular suffers this drawback moreso than even those of her own species; time and time again, especially in combat-situations, Ayla has been able to process and act accordingly to an event at a pace even other Alunrovaan find 'instantaneous'. In truth, chances are she has taken 'time' to think about what to do for quite a bit before acting. Ayla herself has only met a few of anybody that surpasses her processing capacity, but, rather than hold envy for them, she pities these people. As someone who has suffered the effects of elongated perception of time, she finds it insufferable to have more time on her hands than already--even if her lifespan is a quarter of many others. While she has dulled her sense of touch, physical pain is not the only suffering one can go through.

- Pain Toleration/Diluted Sense of Touch - As previously stated, Ayla experiences constant pain at all times as a result of her muscle density. The [constant] pain becomes virtually non-existent when on planets with gravity levels far lighter than the levels of gravity on Negosvern (which is most planets), but the damages from the pain does not fade away with it. From this constant level of pain, Ayla has grown adapted to the feeling physical aspect of pain in general; this has overall been attained by a diluted sense of touch. The messages sent from her nerves to her brain are still intact and proper, but the 'urgency' in feeling damage, and inherently 'pain', is for the most part ignored. Given that, Ayla can still 'feel' through touch properly, but it becomes difficult to actually ascertain some details and textures on what she is touching.

- Healing/Short Life & Cancer - Like many other Alunrovaan, Ayla possesses the capacity to heal her body, but differs from them in that she heals practically at the rate of regeneration in small cases. At most, she can regenerate the entirety of a single limb in the span of approximately five hours (given how much of her limb was severed). Something like a cut on her will likely repair within minutes. To pair off with her healing is the limited lifespan she possesses. Just like others of her species, Ayla's natural life--without augmentation from outside sources such as longevity via the Force--will likely end by the time she's 25 or so. Fortunately for her, an elongated perception of time can make it seem like life is still pretty long. Less fortunately, the more she heals, the farther the genetic cancer within her spreads.

- Self-Sufficient/Atmospheric Dependency - A racial quality, Ayla has no need for anything aside from nitrogen in the air to actually sustain her body. Perhaps sleep might be an exception (if anything to recover from mental fatigue), but eating is not necessary. Possessing the uzuur, Ayla can produce all the necessary nutrients for her body simply by breathing--so long as there is atmosphere with nitrogen, she will be entirely fine. On the other hand, this also means that without an atmosphere, she will not survive, and will likely die within minutes, if not seconds.

- Force Focus/Deaf and Blind - As the offspring of the Imperial family on top of her battle-oriented upbringing and own love for the thrill of the fight itself, Ayla is both blind and deaf. Her eardrum is entirely unresponsive, and the optical nerves connecting her eye to her brain are severed. While this retains her eyeballs, she is sightless. Seemingly a terrible weakness to suffer at first, in truth it has helped her excel in force-sense, and has even enabled the strengthening of other senses. Combined with her lack of 'feeling' to some degree, Ayla's sense of smell and taste are particularly powerful. Truthfully, the girl requested her senses to be taken, as per her obsession with combat. The family was reluctant, but understood that if they were not to do it themselves, and safely, Ayla might just take initiative to mutilate herself.
  • Personal Str/Wea
- Emotionally Augmented/Controlled - Ayla is an extremely emotional creature, with most of her actions dictated by impulse and feeling, despite her capacity for logical and rational action and judgement. Surprisingly, this can directly affect her abilities; for example, in a storm of rage, Ayla's rampaging, wild fighting style might become even deadlier than before as her attacks use more strength and speed, making her a formidable opponent. On the other hand, this also means Ayla is controlled by her emotions. Taking the previous example into account, while she might become a harder opponent to defeat, she is also inflicting self-harm. With lack of active moderation, the likelihood of her tearing at her bones with wild and rapid swings goes up monumentally.

- Confident/Arrogant - While most often being put in negative light, Ayla's arrogance also translates into her confidence and self-esteem. Having faith in herself and her abilities, there's little room for doubt to put in someone as narcissistic as her--especially when she is usually able to back up what she builds herself up to be. Naturally, this also provides a negative side of the coin. Arrogance is generally a disliked trait in social aspects, and is frequently associated with lack of carefulness and strategies such as a 'tactical retreat'. All in all, Ayla suffers both the strength and weakness of having trust in oneself.

- Solver/Insensitive - Ayla aims to solve a problem when it arises. If an efficient and effective method to attaining her goal is in sight, there's little hesitation to be had in using this method. Sure, this can be a very valuable trait in all sorts of situations, but this also adds to her social incompetence. If others take 'the wrong' method, they are likely to be scrutinised by Ayla, even if their method worked. Furthermore, sometimes people might just want a shoulder to lean on and a comforting friend when faced with a problem, instead of trying to immediately fix or get rid of it. Ayla fails to understand this, and would do the exact opposite of what such a person might want and implore them to use whatever method to 'solve' the problem.

- Instinct/PTSD - A trait with few strengths to behold, Ayla suffers an aggressive but rarely acting Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. Considering her young age and several years of war, it isn't too surprising for someone such as Ayla to go through rather 'interesting' moments, have periodic but vivid flashbacks, and moments of uncontrollable action, action frequently being a violent rampage or impulsively defensive/offensive movements and attacks. While this does have the advantage of giving her a practically instinctual reaction to combative situations, even without having to think about it at times, Ayla retains most of the symptoms of PTSD.

Abilities
  • Skills/Talents
- Piloting - With constant visits to the inside of a ship from her above-ground excursions, Ayla has over time discovered how to work some of the basic functions in a spacecraft, especially with the help of the researches connected to the imperial and royal family. For the most part, she is only capable of controlling its basic movements to get by, but her ability to perform these basics aren't too bad, proven by her successful escape of Negosvern before its subsequent destruction by Yuuzhan Vong forces. Having only seriously pilot a ship unguided once, it is uncertain whether or not this skill is transferable to other crafts; for the most part, it depends on whether or not the controls work similarly or not.

- Swordsmanship - Since an extremely young age, Ayla has been taught 'Dinvoaak', a sword-style passed down the generations of the Imperial Family. Her talent has proven profound in grasping the basics of Dinvoaak, to the point where her mastery of the fundamentals has earned her several victories in an assortment of battles against even some Imperial Guards, who are assumed to be in the top 5% of fighters on the late Negosvern. Unfortunately, her knowledge in this art is limited to the fundamentals. Shortly after her exhibition of mastery over the basics, Ayla was sent out to combat the Yuuzhan Vong. In truth, she has been extremely encouraged to continue her training of the style to extend over complete mastery in its entirety, but after having experienced war first-hand on a number of occasions, Ayla deemed it unnecessary to learn the rest of the style, and simply put trust in her own body and skills with the fundamentals. Truthfully speaking, given her survival and even victories in some situations while in combat with the Yuuzhan Vong, it is not without basis that her confident exists.

- Battlefield Tactician - The Alunrovaan have been at war with the Yuuzhan Vong for a great deal of time according to the youngs' memories; Ayla herself had participated in the war for nearly a decade, and as a result she has developed adept comprehensions skills in terms of the tactics of herself and her allies, and even the enemies through deduction and trickery at times. Coming from a warrior-species that praise intellect and tactical-prowess, her talent in this subject was only further encouraged and extremely well-developed given its deployment against another warrior-cultured species.

- Hand-to-Hand Combatant - While not as talented in Hand-to-Hand Combat as she is with a blade, Ayla has proven time and time again that she can hold her own in an intense fight without a weapon in hand--besides the hands itself. A many number of Alunrovaan have bested her in this category, thus placing her at a general disadvantage when disarmed, and discouraging her from actually using HtH if any other option was available. As a result, she has become more dependent and reliant on swordsmanship, failing to practice her Hand-to-Hand with as much frequency as the former.

  • Force Abilities
- Force in General - There was once a prophecy that had been taken as nothing but truth during the Civil War of Negosvern. An Alunrovaan child would be born from parents of both sides, and they would hold power never before seen by their people. Despite not necessarily fitting in with all of the prophecy's details, some religious sects on Negosvern thought Ayla to be the belated 'prophecised one', spoken of during the Civil War. One of the primary reasons for this assumption lied in her inexplicably prodigal sensitivity to the Force. Ever since a young age, Ayla has presented practically a natural use of the force, as if it were inherit to her. Of course, some of her skills can only be accredited to the fact that, as an Imperial-born, her received training was better than anyone else's.

- Art of Movement - Not the same kind as that which is taught in the Jedi Order. Due to her special physical condition, simply to be capable of sustaining her body without excessive pain, and also to use her own body at its full potential without the former being a problem, the capacity to augment her movements with the force is well-developed. Thsis particular utilisation of the Force comes the most naturally to her, as it is a talent taught to all Alunrovaan who have participated in their most recent war. As the Yuuzhan Vong are unaffected by the Force, Alunrovaan have had to rely on more indirect methods, such as physical augmentation through the use of the force to fight. Alya, being one to avidly and actively fight the Yuuzhan Vong with extreme frequency, can be credited as "a genius in movement".

- Telekinesis - Ayla frequently uses telekinesis in tandem with the Art of Movement, even using telekinesis itself to physically boost her, such as applying force behind her to boost her physically, or use telekinesis to put more power into her attacks and jump higher than to begin with. In truth, Ayla's talents in telekinesis are rather fundamental, and are basically limited to a 'blast of intangible force', like a powerful gust of wind. She fails to be able to concentrate her telekinetic talents, but is somewhat capable of using it largely, such as with a powerful Force Push or something along those lines. While capable and clearly showing potential in this ability, she still has plenty of room to improve.

- Sense - Ayla's senses through the force in general are extremely potent, primarily due to having been stripped of her ability to see and hear. Her talents in using the force to 'sense' things have been retained. Anything within an 100-metre radius is pretty much subject to her awareness. Using the force to not only sense lifeforms or use "Force-Sight", Ayla is capable of processing even 'vibrations' within range, having been a necessary skill for her to 'pseudo-hear'. In her head, things can be perceived in three-dimensions in accordance with sensing the 'open-space' unoccupied by a more tangible substance than simply 'air'. Unfortunately, this limits her to awareness of open spaces only. For example, if Ayla was in a hallway with doors surrounding the walls, she would be unable to 'see' what was behind the door, as the space is closed off from the room she is currently occupying. Apparently, actually 'seeing through' the doors and into the room behind it was possible, just not at the current level she is at. Ayla is also capable of using the force to sense the placement of surroundings, including the air. By judging the displacement of air, she can determine the proportions, size, and to some degree the density of an object in a three-dimensional perspective. Without this form of 'sensing', it would be impossible for her to actually combat Yuuzhan Vong and any other force-dead creatures, who are otherwise invisible to force-sense.

- Extension - A common practice in Alunrovaan fighting styles is the extension of one's attacks through the use of the force. Having grasped rudimentary knowledge in this practice, Ayla is not too proficient in this, but she is also not without effectiveness. Ayla most often extends her punches and sword swings, and rarely extends any other sort of attacks. In terms of swordplay, an extension of a slash would result in a sharp telekinetic blast that resembles a blade-slash, simply extending in mid-air to a predetermined range. Another extension might be a stabbing motion, in which a sharp and pointed telekinetic blast is sent forth, acting similarly to if her blade was simply longer, and had reached the opponent--the basic concepts of how 'Extension' is intended to work. The same goes for her punches, as the extension simply acts as if her arms have longer reach through the use of telekinetic blasts.

A Whole New World:
  • In the introductory post, Ayla Mao goes into a flashback of the war on Negosvern. After returning to her conscious self, the spacecraft used to escape the doomed planet/moon enters the atmosphere of another planet unknown to her. All that she is aware of is the fact that it has a dense atmosphere and sand. After being reintroduced to carbon through the air, Ayla finds enough strength to climb out of the sand that filled her ship and stick her head out of the ground.
  • In the second post following Krest's introduction, Ayla focuses on the feeling of freedom as the air can constantly flow into her lungs. While not yet mentioned, some of her bones are fractured (which will be a fact presented in the third post). Out of combat instinct, when Krest approaches her and the precision of her Force-Sense is not enough to deem him a non-threatening being, Ayla sends out a Force Repulse that rapidly expands and practically shoots the sand surrounding her outward, like a volley of projectiles. Before allowing the sand to go too far (hopefully not hitting Krest). Still, she is very wary of the circumstances, and despite her senses reforming to their natural level of prominence, she holds suspicion for the mysterious 'Grey Mentor'.
  • The third installment in "A Whole New World" has arrived! In this post, Ayla shifts from a very tense demeanor to a softer, more welcoming approach. Given the fact that Krest was on his arse with a loose jaw dropped a tad, Ayla couldn't help but feel like he wasn't a threat. At least, not in an Alunrovaan sense of the word. After all, wartimes change perspective. In the end, Ayla offers a hand to help the man up, trying her best to speak Basic fluently, yet already unknowingly making a mistake.
  • The start of the fourth round of posting, and Ayla strongly pulls Krest up to his feet. Subsequently, she readies herself to utterly destroy an unknown and nearing creature before she assumes it is 'a friendly' and pulls back her fist and killing intent. In the end, she asks the man a question while answering his own, essentially wondering where she is.
  • The fifth post revolves around her realisation of the circumstances. After confirming that she knows nothing about the surroundings or the world around her, it is very apparent that the Galaxy is outside her general comprehension, and at the moment, she is only a lonely and confused young girl. Considering to her knowledge she might as well be the last Alunrovaan alive on top of having lost everything else for that matter, the princess collapses and silently weeps
  • In the sixth round, Ayla has finished her mourning period after half an hour, for the time being. To her, it felt like multiple hours; regardless, she has regained composure enough to sit up-right. Noticing a beverage being heated over a fire, Ayla asks Krest if she could have some.
  • Confused as to what she should do with the rest of her life, Ayla determines that having the Alunrovaan as a species live through her as the best course of action for the rest of her life. Besides carrying on the culture with her as well as its blood, expanding their numbers through a more natural process became her aim. With a man already before her, deduced to be a warrior, she begins to set her eyes on Krest as a potential candidate, challenging him to a fight to determine if he was suitable or not.

Yavriil Yolheim:
  • While only a half-sibling and three years younger, Ayla with-holds a good relationship with her sister. Despite contrasting personalities and interests, with much of Ayla's time being occupied on the surface of Negosvern--even outside of wartime--and Yavriil being occupied underneath the catacombs of the already-underground society of the Alunrovaan, the two spent quite a bit of personal time. While the older shared stories of the outside 'world', and Yavriil told her own in the forgeries, the two were well bonded with what little they had in common. At some point, their relationship grew slightly colder, likely a result of their relations towards their mentor, Lov Rahjun. Both of them were especially close, with Ayla sharing his combative prowess, and Yavriil sharing his engineering talents--especially when it came to forging items. Ayla has speculated Yavriil's unrequited feelings for Lov, while Ayla holds him up as a father-figure.

Lov Rahjun:
  • A very dear friend, and as aforementioned, a father figure to her, Ayla holds Lov in the highest respect she could give. As her personal mentor, Lov essentially taught Ayla the majority of what she knew in terms of combat, history, and language. On occasion, he would share some philosophical views, but Ayla always viewed his words on this matter as 'somewhat empty'. Aside from a more professional, teaching aspect, Lov was also something of a 'stable rock' to lean upon. With Ayla's hectic living style, constantly visiting the surface and combating the Yuuzhan Vong, while most did not bear witness Ayla was privy to falling into emotional breakdowns. Lov would provide solace and comfort, moments with Ayla holds very dear in itself. As someone who has also witnessed and participated in wartimes, Lov is also something of an example and role-model to Ayla.

I like it. It shows effort, and dedication; proves you really care. That said, I certainly don't have the time to read it all right now in one sitting.

Slightly updated Ayla, mostly to accommodate for the changes in the Alunrovaan race. Still a bit more I need to fix up to keep some continuity, though the abhorring strength is pretty much there to stay for the time being. Though it is terribly powerful, I toned it down some (reflecting that with the reduction of her weight) and not only kept the same level of counter-balance--namely the crushing pressure factor, but added some notes concerning the stress and dependency on her organs supply the necessary energy and nutrients to her muscular strength.
