Description

Saturation.

This was the challenge that Arakyd Industries faced when entering the personal weaponry market. For so long after the Darkness, corporations have leapt at the chance to produce new and innovative firearms for the Galaxy; thereby leading to an overabundance of choices for the consumer. How then does a "new kid on the block" compete with the dominant names of the market? How then could Arakyd Industries offer the Galaxy a firearm of note when so many have been made?

To answer these questions, the corporations began by looking to history for inspiration.

Blaster technology, at present, generally consists of two trends. The bolts produced by an individual weapon can plasma or particle-based, depending upon configuration. These trends both have respective strengths and weaknesses...in addition to common ancestry. Research undertaken by Arakyd yielded information regarding the predecessor of the modern blaster, the Laser, which was then utilized in the creation of a new line of firearms. While this particular design was founded upon archaic discoveries, the creative touch of Arakyd Industries yielded a weapon more than capable of competing in the saturated, weapons market.

Known as the AY-214 Combat Pistol, this particular firearm is built around something rather unique in the modern market: a physical "gain medium". Unlike typical blasters, which revolve around the excitement of gases to create bolts, laser-based firearms rely upon the charging of a gain medium through various means. For the most part, gain mediums are either solid or gaseous, with the latter being the more common variant. However, Arakyd Industries decided to create a weapon utilizing the former for a key reason: less reloading.

Utilizing a solid, gain medium in the form of a synthetic Crystal eliminates the need to regularly reload the weapon with gas cartridges. As such, the AY-214 Combat Pistol is burdened solely by the reload demands of its power cell. How this works is that the gain medium is introduced to electricity via the power cell. The rapid influx of electrons into the crystal cause the particulars to behave in a self-stabilizing manner; thereby promoting a release of photons. These photons are then reflected through the optical cavity, which amplifies them into a high-powered and coherent "bolt" of light.

When compared to the bolts produced by the average blaster, there are both similarities and differences. To begin, both types are more the capable of proving fatal to organics and droids alike upon contact. However, it is to be noted that the modern blaster bolt is characterized by a higher stopping power due to its compressed nature. Conversely, "laser bolts" are characterized by higher accuracy/stability and range; for the modern bolt sacrifices these for a much higher fire rate.

In the context of the AY-214 Combat Pistol, these traits translate into a weapon that excels in close to mid ranges. It enjoys an above average stability, accuracy, and range for a blaster of this classification; yet conversely has a lower stopping power. Because the firearm is a semi-automatic pistol, its rate of fire is equivalent to however fast the wielder can pull the trigger. As such, there is no "standard" RPM for this weapon. On another note, the AY-214 Combat Pistol has a variety of modular attachments available: such as laser sights, tactical lights, silencers, etc.,

All in all, this weapon is a low-priced and reliable blaster pistol. It is accurate, stable, and eliminates the necessity to reload two types of ammunition. Any demographic of customer could easily incorporate this armament into their arsenal; from civilians looking for personal defense to soldiers looking for a reliable side arm. Indeed, the AY-214 Combat Pistol is a strong start for Arakyd Industries' entrance into the firearms race. Buy yours today! Satisfaction is guaranteed!

Research

The Wookiepedia article on Blasters was literally edited yesterday, removing all information on the subject of laser mechanics. I accessed the page history and screencapped the information as to back up the canonicity of the submission.

Pistol utilizing older laser tech with less stopping power and higher accuracy. An even trade off. Nothing really out of the ordinary otherwise.

Approved. Pending Secondary.

I have only one Issue with this post and it was pointed out to me.

Suppressor
You can't really suppress light, either silencing it or visually making it less noticeable. Furthermore after research on Wookieepedia, I actually noted that Blaster Suppressors don't really exist(Unless I missed something).

The only examples of suppressors in canon are found here;
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/The_Silencer- A stub article of a pistol specifically designed to the silenced.
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/DC-19_%22Stealth%22_carbine- A rifle specifically designed to be silent and unseen that uses a special kind of ammo just for that purpose.

As such if you want to add a suppressor to this, or any other blaster, I'm going to need you to dev the technology separately.
