STRENGTHS

  • Advanced Sensor and ECCM Suite: Being highly specialized as a SAWACS vessel, the Argus has extremely powerful long-range sensors of various types across the visible and invisible light spectrums, audio and radar frequencies, radiation emissions, and even gravitonic sensors designed to allow it to fight a lot of ECM countermeasures and determine the accurate locations and dispositions of enemy vessels, vehicles, and infantry at exceptionally long range, preferably out of the range of its opponent's sensors, along with powerful and efficient computers to collate and make sense of the collected data. It is even capable of detecting vessels utilizing most forms of stealth technology, albeit at shorter ranges and with more difficulty depending on the type utilized.
  • Advanced Communications Array: The Argus is equipped with a powerful and secure military-grade communications array and hyperwave transceivers capable of breaking through all but the most powerful jamming systems in the galaxy, suited for its role as an advanced scouting and coordination vessel.
  • Advanced Thrusters and Engines: The Argus is equipped with the very best type of engine and maneuvering thrusters that Mandal-Elysium Arms can provide, making it an exceptionally fast and maneuverable ship capable of outrunning all but the fastest fighters and interceptors, and even giving those a run for their money.

WEAKNESSES

  • Complicated to Manufacture: Due to its specialized nature, the complexity of its state-of-the-art sensor and communications equipment, and its powerful engines and thrusters, the Argus is only deployed in squads of four and rarely seen in large numbers outside of major fleet actions.
  • Downgraded Defenses: In order to make room for and power the large amount of long-range sensor equipment, it was necessary to considerably thin out the armor of the ship and reduce the amount of power directed to its shields. While it may survive a few casual bursts of an average weapon or a glancing blow from a more advanced one, the Argus will not last long under sustained fire. It is meant to sense and fly away from its targets, not engage them in combat.
  • Poor Offensive Capabilities: In line with needing to reduce its defenses in order for the freighter to work as a proper SWACS ship, it is armed only with two light laser cannons which are mostly suited to scaring off intruding wildlife and the errant wayward civilian vessel than doing any substantial damage to a military ship.

DESCRIPTION

The first officially design of the Voland Military Enterprises and Mandal-Elysium Arms partnership as part of an evolving military doctrine the AVF-1 SAWACS (Space and Air Warning and Control System) aka “Argus”, is a fast, specialized space and atmospheric sentry ship designed to burn through the fog of war by detecting and communicating information about numerous space, air, and surface threats in support of the Elysium Empire’s military and approved customers. It can serve in various roles including surveillance, battle space management, command and control and communications. It is even capable, thanks to its high speed, maneuverability, and long-range sensors, of being an excellent impromptu transport vessel for Elysium VIPs and small amounts of important cargo.

In Elysium naval usage, a lone Argus or squadron of them can be deployed ahead of a fleet to quickly and securely relay information about an enemy fleet’s naval positioning, status, and the chosen battlefield from a safe distance back to its home fleet stationed out of system at a safe location. This is so that the fleet can then make the jump from hyperspace into the battlefield with a significant advantage in intelligence with optimal positioning. Afterwards, the Argus can continue to support target acquisition and coordination for its allies various capital ships and starfighters, enabling them to focus more of their energy and time actually shooting at and engaging opponents. For army and intelligence purposes, the Argus is excellent for spotting and tracking enemy land, sea, and naval vehicles and large infantry formations from afar, providing crucial intel and spotting capabilities for artillery and CAS as an eye in the sky.

The design of the ship was completed by the newly founded Voland Military Industries with consultation from the Elysium Empire’s Grand Shepherd Burtch Grand Shepherd Burtch and construction contracted out Mandal-Elysium Arms after Aculia Voland Aculia Voland 's negotiations with Dorthea Dobson Dorthea Dobson to help the struggling company get back on its feet.
