+ System relies on both ship sensors and its own sensors to detect enemy starfighters or missile to destroy

Description:

Just like with the Comet Mass Driver and the Gremlin Ion Cannon, the Splinter Rotary Flak Gun is designed to be part of the next generation of Aurora Industries weapon systems for its ships. In this case, the engineers at Aurora designed to go with a rotating system of three barrels that can constantly spew out defensive shrapnel rounds at an enemy starfighter or incoming missile.

The system relies on both the ship sensors and its own more limited sensor system to detect threats that enter its scanning area, as the system itself is automated. However, because it is a flak gun, the Splinter Flak Gun will eventually run out of ammo as it relies on physical shells. Also, if the system has to put a sustained rate of fire for longer than a few seconds at a time, the interiors of the barrels will become too hot and will start to warp the barrel, potentially causing jams or even accidental detonations.
