"One of my larger subsidiaries, Iron Crown, sells starships, exploration gear, and cheap weapons across the Unknown Regions. Expansion is on the horizon, but all trade from Fringe territory runs through, or near, the Omega Protectorate. Sometimes relations are good, sometimes less so." Massive understatement for the Battle of Kayri and the invasion of Eriadu. "Either way, I'm looking for a third route, one that doesn't just avoid the Protectorate, it avoids the battle lines between the Republic and the One Sith. I'm talking about a major trade route that avoids that entire mess, and all future fallout, unlike the Perlemian and a dozen other significant lanes, including the stem line for the Braxant Run." The only significant hyperlane anywhere near the Remnant, and key to its future growth. "We're giving the Braxant a new stem line, one that draws from heavily untapped markets -- markets where we're already entrenched. The benefits you're about to draw from this end, I'm about to draw from the other end. That," she admitted, "and fuel depots, waystations, beacons all up and down. I have fuel connections enough to make it work, though of course I'm willing to pay a premium for fuel produced in this area, by your local consortia or parastatals."

This whole idea didn't seem half bad. Increased trade in general, more relations with the largest corporation in the Unknown Regions, and premiums paid by multiple other businesses. Not to mention all that traffic and investment stuff flowing right into the Remnant. The Supreme Commander had to admit it, he liked the idea.

"What'll be the terms of our deal? Do you merely wish for permission to map your hyperlanes or were you desiring for something more?"

"Just what you see here, Admiral," said the magnate, intent on the holoprojector, trying not to wonder what the Muuns were doing in the other room, and how much patience they would have. "Basic free-trade waypoint stations over Kalee and Kad Five, along with whatever other worlds you wind up protecting along the route, plus tariff-free passage through Imperial territory for vehicles registered to AEI and its subsidiaries and contractors. The basic package. I generally find that when it comes to relationships like this, the fewer complications the better. Simple arrangements are preferable."

The Admiral pursed his lips in thought, giving the leather coat billionaire a pensive look. "That's acceptable." He finally said after a few moments of intense discussion between his better halves. Between increased trade and the possibility of the Remnant's economy expanding exponentially for the sake of some credits lost to tariff waivers, this was practically getting a steal.

"It's been a pleasure doing business with you, Lady Merrill."

"Very well, Admiral; thank you for your business. My legal department will send yours a contract within the hour for your signature, laying out the points we've just agreed. I guarantee that your legal officers will find everything within the bounds that we've discussed." She offered that shallow bow again. "If you'll excuse me, I have some Muuns to reassure. Until next time, Admiral."

She cut the connection and reentered the other room.

"Gentlemen, I have some news you'll find stimulating..."
