Attention to Detail

Aleksandyr sat in his home office; gazing out the window amongst the industry of Balmora and his company's headquarters off in the distance. "Is everything alright, sir?", his assistant Tanlia had stopped by to deliver some prototype plans. "Just fine...", he said -- squinting his modified eyes towards his beloved company. He had been thinking deeply on the future of his enterprise and the ambitious expansion plans for some time. "You look like you're overthinking. Again.", she said in with a snarky tone of voice. Aleksandyr could only let out a playful laugh at; he was bored anyway, there was some fun in teasing. It's not like he was in trouble but he did have a lot to think about. "Could you leave me be? I need to make a private call.", he said in a more serious demeanor that Tanlia Witt understood all too well from working with him. She seemed somewhat disappointed before she walked out the door, it sliding shut behind her.

Taking the Holo transceiver he began to punch in the contact details of this Rebel Alliance. It was difficult enough to get any information from them, even though he's provided some of his best technology free of charge as courtesy to their cause. Still, he couldn't blame them. Anyone could intercept a call or worse, pretend to be a benefactor in order to set a trap. Whatever it may be he didn't really care. He'd been itching to meet their leader in person; a holocall was not exactly a desired alternative.

A holocall was not her favorite thing. Lasedri had been intent on concealing her identity to a point of obsessiveness--not that anyone in her position might blame her. But perhaps there was a time to give in and just take care of business. There were innumerable people in the galaxy. Surely it would be impossible to gather anything truly conclusive in a holocall. Still, she inserted a contact lens in to her right eye to hide her most distinguishing mark.

At least this [member="Aleksandyr Gaillard"] seemed worth talking to, from what Intelligence had gathered. Reluctantly, the Benefactor allowed the call to go through and stood within the cam's line of sight. "Mister Gaillard?" What he could want was something to be determined as quickly as possible. "You've gone through a lot of effort to get to talk to me. I'm taking it in good faith that you're not intending to 'snake oil' me." Yeah, that would not go over very well.

"Oil you? I hardly know you!", he cracked the joke -- trying to avoid laughing at it before she did; if she even did. "I digress.", he said trying to cover his trail there. The CEO of the Gaillard Corporation sometimes colloquially known as Gaillard Industries was a quirky man at best for any who know him. On her side she'd see a modified holo that made it look as if he was standing when in actuality he was sitting; a pleasant technology to say the least because it could turn the most lazy into the most dexterous, well, perhaps not that much.

"I've heard wonders about this little organization that's used my ships. How do they fair?", he asked carefully to be sure he actually got an honest response.

He didn't want to waste her time any more than he wanted her to waste his. This was business, and business was (hopefully) good.

What the frak? Geneviève bit her lip and looked away from the cam for a moment, eyes widened in incredulity at this guy's apparent slapstick sense of 'humor'. She raised an eyebrow as she noticed a couple of her own crew seemed to have gotten a decent chuckle out of this 'joke'. Well.

Turning back to face the technological apparition that represented this charming man she was now chatting with, Lasedri practically yawned to denote her lack of amusement. There may have been a time--once upon a time--when she might have offered to laugh at such extraneous commentary. But that was a long time ago.

"I'd be lying if I said they weren't opening new doors to us," Gen responded, aware that he was referencing his undeniably generous donation of these Nova-One vessels. It was one of the main reasons that she had even allowed this conversation to occur. Not to say that she could be bought, but resources did talk. "I am surprised, however. You're taking a bit of a risk in supporting us so flagrantly. It's not like your ships have reached a common market presence yet." She folded her arms and awaited the reaction of this 'business associate'. She was hardly accusatory--mostly curious. But what could motivate this man to support them in this way?

The CEO smiled at her last bit.

"What good are credits, anyway?", he said. For some this may have sounded like madness or wishful thinking, "Digitally summed currency backed by wavering economics with no real value is just as good as dirt.", he added. Taking a brief moment to mull over his thoughts he returned to his little lesson.

"The truth is the only reason credits have any value is because someone said so.", he made a final statement towards that before heading back to his intended train of thought.

Everything was a bit blurry to him, about this mystery woman, "I'm here to make a deal, with you. My ships were a gift, I wanted you to see what I was capable of providing. I don't care about money, I just want to see change.", he wasn't being entirely dishonest. Sure that wasn't all he wanted, but he truly didn't give much thought about whether or not this made him a financial profit.

The CEO brushed his hair black slightly and pulled out a small device which he inserted into the transceiver. It provided access to a highly secure bank account located through a bouncing independent network, obviously one people normally use to avoid paying certain taxes but nonetheless it was now completely exposed to her. "Consider this a down payment, even if you don't accept my offer.", his hands folded almost deviously at the thought of making very illegal arrangements with a very illegal woman.

"Oh, I've never placed any true value in credits," Gen defended, realizing that her comments had been misinterpreted. She absolutely agreed with his sentiments regarding money. "I mean that it's quite a step of faith to supply us with your ships. It could be very bad publicity to have ships donated by you found in possession of the Rebellion. It happened with our last supplier of starfighters, in fact."

While holding common opinions was all well and good, the purpose of this unannounced communication--this upcoming 'deal' proposition--had her on edge. Arrangements with companies had not gone so well for Lasedri on a personal level when past discussions had been launched in this impromptu manner. The woman-on-black crossed her arms and began to take on a dominant demeanor. She would be the aggressor in this conversation whenever possible. Give no ground without a fight. "It must be quite the offer if you were so heavily intent on contacting me--and after giving us spacecraft, no less."

He had made a serious gamble, and she wanted to know why before agreeing to anything. Show me what you've got.

Alek responded first to what she said about 'bad publicity'. "The only thing better than power is the illusion you have it; it's all about public image. In fact for that, people are better of dying as martyrs than winning battles as terrorists. If it was a threat, just know this: It's hard to gain support if you have a reputation for dishonesty.", he said.

Adding to the statement: "Of course, if you just mean what if 'someone finds out?' then do not worry, I have friends in high and low places.", he smiled for the holo.

The eccentric CEO wouldn't care much, besides, the Rebel Alliance may have had a reputation but they were only criminals in a few places. As far as he's concerned -- as a Republic company -- it didn't matter much what they did. It's the same reason he funded other such organizations outside of Republic space. "My offer is generous yes, but as you might've expected I didn't come hoping to leave empty handed.", he added.

"I'll be completely honest with you. I don't care about politics. I don't care about wealth. What I care about is being comfortable and happy; that's not going to happen so long as everyone's an idiot.", he stressed a lot and it was indeed a selfish claim but not one that couldn't be helpful to others.

"In the end I like your idealism. I want you to win your fight; in exchange I expect you'll help me win mine afterwards."

[member="Geneviève Lasedri"]

"Let me put it this way," Gen interrupted, noting the 'player' approach he was taking to this. "If you have customers who don't agree with what the Alliance does, and your ships are found to be in our possession... How do you intend to placate them? That's bad for business--I'm pretty sure. Even with friends in 'high and low places'." That phrase bothered her a bit. It could either mean great things, or detrimental things for their connections with this man. Who was he, really?

Ah, just a typical company cat. Comfort was his goal, and that was a quality Lasedri had never truly been fond of. But he was not fighting for them--just supplying them, currently. "If that's all you want, and if you think we're the key to that, then so be it. I always fight to win. I won't fight for you, but if our prevailing helps you accomplish that, then that's just how it will go, I suppose." That was hard for her to accept. But there was nothing she could do to stop him from taking advantage unless she decided to rid the Alliance of his donated vessels. Some things one just had to deal with until they could deal with later.

"You really do play hard to get.", he remarked.

Business is business and if the young CEO knew anything it was how to make business happen, "Regardless of your opinions I do look forward to aiding you in a more personal atmosphere.", he added.

Aleksandyr needed the Rebel Alliance but for what and why was somewhat a puzzle, even to him, he relied heavily on his intuition and something told him that this woman would get him there. He smiled at the thought quite a bit, "Who knows? You might be in-charge of The Republic someday and owe me a favour."
