STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES (Required: 2 Weaknesses Minimum) :
Describe in moderate detail the strengths and weaknesses of your character.

  • Credits, Credits, Credits: Athriel was and remains to some extent a Sephi of business. His ability to secure increasing wealth has kept him and his ventures afloat. While affluent he is not as wealthy as many more prominent individuals in the galactic high life.
  • Nobility: Self proclaimed or hereditary, it means little when you have lands and the means to sustain it. While he may not come from a noble lineage every house has its roots. Athriel has a way of gaining respect and deference from NPCs of a more mundane origin.
  • Savior: Athriel sees himself as a benevolent savior of the down trodden and the displaced. His realm was built from these people and he feels that he alone can secure a bright future for them - as his subjects of course.
  • Archon: As Athriel knows what is best for the individuals under his care it only makes sense that he have the tools to utilize that knowledge. Athriel is against most forms of representation for the commoner except through himself. There are a chosen few in the galaxy who have the personality, willpower, and integrity to rule so it should be no surprise that those who are not these chosen ascended should remain far away from the trappings of power. A gambler would not tell a chef how to cook a fine meal, a soldier would not tell a pilot how to fly, and a commoner would not tell an archon how to rule.

BIOGRAPHY:
Athriel lived an unremarkable life for most in the galaxy up until his life altering scheme. He had been born to a moderately wealthy Sephi family who made their business in the logistics industry who had found success in the transportation of high valued goods with galaxy class timing. While this did not make them extraordinarily powerful or influential it was a start. By the time Athriel had reached 20 years of age his parents urged him to make his own path and, with a sizeable financial contribution, he was able to purchase a light freighter of his own. Business was slow and the competition was cutthroat to say the least as the most profitable contracts were snapped up almost instantaneously. It did not take Athriel long to establish that he needed another plan of action. He dared to take up a trade only a few were brave enough to pursue and that was gambling. The fastest way to make credits in the galaxy was also the fastest way to lose credits in the galaxy. Though he was not skilled enough of a gambler to make his profits he knew of those who were and so he sponsored them for cuts of their winnings.

Like a revolving door Athriel's gamblers made and lost money but the Sephi had continued to see his credit horde swell. He cared little for those in his employ who were not cut out for the industry, it wasn't his fault they couldn't see into the future. While this steadily increasing form of income continued for months Athriel had not found himself a consistent champion. That was until he made the acquaintance of a particularly talented dark-hose swoop racer by the name of Tyl Orvak, Orvak had won every swoop race he had entered with a comfortable lead on most of his competitors but what made this racer such an underdog was his origins. He had been born in the undercity of Coruscant with no notable family members or achievements aside from his amateur racing career. Lacking name recognition to enter the bigger, professional, races the usual sponsors tossed his applications with the other no-names.

Athriel may have been of the same mind if he had not been looking into the racing industry to diversify his employee portfolio. Tyl Orvak was cheap, showed promise, had become a local name in his sector of the undercity, and most importantly he asked for very little in return for much of his winnings. Tyl wanted to race and Athriel wanted credits. The deal was struck and with Athriel backing his entry into one of the year's most important swoop racing events in the Mid-Rim the Sephi sponsor put forward three million credits for Tyl Orvak to Place. He simply needed to be in the top three for Athriel's gamble to pay off. Orvak got second place in the event and Athriel made his credits back triple. Unfortunately for Athriel, and Tyl Orvak, the rookie racer's first showing would be his last. Tyl Orvak was murdered in cold blood two nights after at a cantina catering to swoop fans, the killer was never caught. The authorities believed the homicide was related to the race by which the more veteran pilots were furious at being upstaged. Athriel felt responsible for the death of Tyl Orvak and though he could not bring him back the Sephi sent the remainder of Tyl's credits and his swoop bike back to his family's home to at least show his appreciation for the young star. The credits had to flow and with his best money maker gone Athriel had to invest again. Nobody matched the late racer's skill or results but much like the gamblers and card sharks Athriel had employed before, Athriel always saw income whether they folded or won the table. While not exactly loyal it was not illegal but common practice for sponsors to place wagers on the competition to win as well.

As Athriel was taking a pleasure cruise through the galaxy he and his crew came across a spectacular sight, a gem infused astroid field which had been registered as Asteroid Field 77U. It was magnificent. At that moment Athriel became interested in development. An asteroid colony would be risky but no more risky than employing gamblers. With the Sith Empire's encroaching wars and millions of refugees fleeing their home-worlds the Sephi investor was certain that he could convince at least a few hundred to come live in his new colony. It was near a prominent trade route and close enough to the borders of the Silver Jedi Order that his potential citizens may feel safe. Development (refer to the codex submissions) was swift and calculated. Once construction had completed, for the most part, and there were enough residents within his new colony the young visionary crowned himself Prince Athriel. This was a momentous change in his life as he set aside his mercantile ways to become a beacon of hope, salvation, and a figure loved by all. To say Athriel had developed a savior complex during this whole ordeal would be wholly correct.
