SPECIAL FEATURES
  • The Athan is designed to provide basic protections to civilian vessels with minimal maintenance requirements, as a result, the shield is consistently active helping protect from debris and light munitions and can be repaired relatively cheaply and easily. The low power overhead affords greater flexibility to designers and captains looking for basic protection without having to sacrifice subsystems in other areas.

DESCRIPTION
The Athan is a shield used primarily by Civilian ships of the Avali Migrant Fleets and sees limited use in other territories across the Galaxy. While not offering the same level of protection as other shield types the Athan, and Conversion Shields like it tend to have much greater efficiency allowing them to be sustained for longer and without the same level of power overheads seen in more traditional deflector shields. This allows smaller ships to be equipped with basic shielding and still retain headroom for additional subsystems.

It achieves this by converting one form of energy into another, the most common of which is light, most Conversion Fields are rated similar to a Hyperdrive from one to nine with Class I Conversion Fields offering the greatest protection and IX the least. Most Civilian shields are rated between seven to nine, and most military vessels will utilise ratings between one to four, finally, industrial starships and vehicles typically utilise four to seven. Overall, these ratings represent the amount of energy converted per projectile with most capping out around 50~60%.
