STRENGTHS
  • High Stopping Power & Penetration - The AT-HB1 delivers bolts powerful enough to penetrate most standard body armor - plasto-armor, light plating, enviro-suits - making it effective even against well-protected targets, as a single well-placed bolt has the potential to incapacitate or kill.
  • Compactness & Maneuverability - Its relatively small size allows the weapon to be used in confined spaces such as corridors, rooms, or tight quarters that would be difficult for a rifle or carbine, making the weapon great for boarding actions, security, or urban operations.
  • Reliability & Durability - Aether Technologies designed and produced the AT-HB1 using robust alloys and reinforced internal components to handle the heavy energy discharge, thus reducing the chances of overheating or misfires under typical use.
  • Power On-Demand - Higher damage output means that the wielder can choose to deliver a devastating punch in close combat; ideal for ambushes, sudden boarding fights, personal defense, or high-threat security details.
WEAKNESSES
  • Limited Effective Range - The AT-HB1 was not designed to be utilized at long ranges, as bolt coherence degrades, accuracy drops considerably, and the power of the bolt diminishes; meaning that these weapons are poor for use at medium- to long-range engagements.
  • Low Ammunition Capacity - Given the high energy demand per shot, the power cell and gas cannister only last for a few dozen blaster bolts - between twenty-five to fifty - before needing replacement or recharge, making these weapons ill-suited for prolonged firefights.
  • Recoil & Handling - The heavy recoil and muzzle blast associated with this weapon make rapid follow-up shots less accurate, and sustained fire risks overheating the barrel or causing internal damage to the vital components.
  • High Maintenance Requirement - Increased damage output associated with blaster bolt discharge stresses internal components - galven circuits, emitters, etc - requiring regular maintenance and inspection to avoid failure of the weapon.
  • Regulation & Legality - Throughout the Galaxy, the use and ownership of heavy blaster pistols are heavily regulated - often requiring permits - with unauthorized possession could attract fines or jail time if caught with this weapon.
DESCRIPTION
The AT-HB1 emerged during an increasingly unstable galactic climate following the collapse of the Galactic Alliance, as pirate bands, privateer fleets, and militia factions flourished. Aether Technologies identified a market gap - a weapon with the stopping power of a rifle, but sized for tight corridors, airlocks, and starship decks where length becomes a liability. The heavy pistols produced by BlasTech and Merr-Soon filled part of this niche, but their designs were decades - if not centuries - old, temperamental, or prone to overheating. Aether Technologies engineered the AT-HB1 to solve these flaws by producing a pistol that hits like a hammer in close quarters and remains reliable under prolonged stress. The design of the weapon trades range and sustained fire capacity for stopping power, armor penetration, and reliability under harsh conditions. The frame of the AT-HB1 is built from Duralumin and wrapped in a Dallorian Alloy shell to further increase its durability - and the weapon shares similarities with the AT-S7 - in that its grip panels are textured and slightly recessed, meant to accommodate both gloved military use and bare-handed civilian operation. The AT-HB1 also has an oversized trigger guard, with the weapon design keeping Starfighter Pilots' gloves in mind. A low-profile iron sight sits along the top edge, though the weapon lacks any kind of accessory rail that would allow it to support civilian or military attachments.

A shortened heavy-duty barrel with high-density galven rings is the hallmark of the weapon, and each is precisely calibrated to maintain blaster bolt cohesion at close range. However, because of the short barrel length, shots are known to dissipate more quickly than those from rifles or full-length carbines, with the design being a deliberate choice to keep the pistol relatively compact. As a consequence of its higher damage output, each shot demands more energy - with power cells and tibanna gas reserves only lasting for a few dozen blaster bolts before they need to be replaced or recharged. This requires that an individual plan their shots and make each one matter, rather than adhering to the simple philosophy of spray and pray. Like the AT-S7, the design of the AT-HB1 includes a quick-swap power cell that can be ejected and replaced with a single thumb movement, providing an advantage that is often appreciated when the cell drains quickly. These weapons are also known to be notoriously maintenance-heavy, as the increased damage output associated with the blaster bolt discharge can stress internal components - necessitating regular maintenance and inspection to avoid failure or misfire.

It is, fundamentally, a close-quarters shock weapon - ideal for boarding actions, hallway engagements, and shipborne firefighters where mobility and punching power outweigh range. Designed with a stun setting, the AT-HB1 provides a non-lethal means for shipboard security to subdue an individual rather than outright killing them during an engagement; useful when prisoners are needed or a reward is on the line for capture. Though manageable, the recoil of the weapon slows follow-up shots and can fatigue inexperienced shooters. Overall, the AT-HB1 is a weapon that embraces its specialization - it is not a general-purpose sidearm; instead, it is a precision-crafted close-quarters powerhouse, capable of dropping heavily armored threats in a single shot at short range. It's a shipboard defender's dream, a bounty hunter's insurance policy, and an enforcer's blunt instrument - all in one compact frame.
