The design used by Amadeus Ren mirrors that of the original leader of the Knights of Ren, utilizing a crossguard design that allows for additional protection of the wielder's hands in combat. The weapon handle has been forged with songsteel plating, making it highly resistant to most damage sources, while also making use of non-dimetris circuitry components, as well as a locking activator, ensuring his weapon would block cortosis and remain activated when he desired it. Also installed is a jolt cell, which fluctuates the blades properties to also inflict electrical damage to what it touches. And as a protection against unauthorized use, the hilt has a trapped grip, which only Amadeus knows how to deactivate; and failing to disable the trap results in the individual holding it being stunned by a powerful energy charge.
The most prized component, by far, is the rare Etaan crystal used for the blade. This gives the crimson blade a pulsing appearance, as it flows with resonant energy in excessive amounts. The innate power of the crystal was realized when clashing against other lightsaber blades, which resulted in a near-deafening crack and flare of energy - bouncing opponent's blades back rather than locking with them, blade-to-blade. Additionally, when deflecting blaster bolts, the bolt would absorb a portion of the resonant energy, becoming increasingly dangerous when redirected back toward a target.
It is an excellent weapon for an aggressive lightsaber combatant who engages enemies in duels.
Some years later, through betrayal, the lightsaber was claimed by Amadeus' student - Astus Ren - the latter of whom slew his master, and claimed the weapon as his own. Having discovered the method by which to activate and avoid the trapped grip, through means of mind domination in Amadeus' final moments, Astus is able to utilize the weapon fully as its new owner. And while creating a new weapon may have been simpler, it remains that defeating and claiming a powerful foe's was far more challenging and rewarding for the Knight of Ren...
Strengths:
- Can cut through many materials with relative ease, while also doing electrical damage alongside the standard plasma effects.
- Allows resistance to cortosis, and instead of shorting out the blade, it blocks.
- Songsteel plating makes weapon near indestructible and extremely light.
- Etaan crystal provides increased energy blade output, near-deafening crack on blade-to-blade impact, bounces other blades away, and increases blaster bolt deadliness when reflected/redirected at target.
