OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To expand on Ahch-To's lore and add something for jedi.

GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Ashla's Root
  • Origins: Ahch-To (canon) Ahch-To (Chaos Canon) an ancient remnant of the planet's primordial Force-rich oceans.
  • Other Locations: N/A
  • Classification: Sentient Algae
  • Average Growth Cycle: 80 years years to reach maturity; individual colonies can persist for centuries if undisturbed.
  • Viability: Requires near-constant submersion in water (or ice/snow for frozen variants) with access to sunlight or diffused light for photosynthesis. It desiccates and dies quickly on dry land.
    • Obligate aquatic: Requires near-constant submersion in saline or freshwater (or ice/snow for cryophilic variants) to prevent desiccation.
    • Photosynthetic: Needs consistent access to sunlight or diffused light; prolonged low-light conditions stunt growth and weaken Force attunement.
    • Desiccates rapidly on dry land (within minutes to hours, depending on humidity), leading to irreversible death of exposed portions.
  • Description: A greenish-brown, slick algal mat that floats in sunlit shallows and coastal pools of Ahch-To. It secretes a thick, mucus-like slime coat that deters predation by making it taste foul and slippery. In canon lore, algae thrives in Ahch-To's seashore pools; Ashla's Root is a rare, Force-sensitive strain that has evolved in the planet's deep wells of light-side energy. When a Force user draws near, it subtly calls to them similaar to a kyber crystal, forming a telepathic bond that allows it to channel the user's intent into hydrokinetic constructs shaping water into temporary animal forms, barriers, or tools mirroring the user's thoughts or memories.
    • Morphology: Appears as a dense, gelatinous greenish-brown mat. It does not have roots in the traditional sense; instead, it uses micro-cilia to anchor to submerged stone or float in nutrient-rich currents.
    • Slime Coat:Produces a thick, bio-synthetic mucus. This acts as both a UV shield and a chemical deterrent.
      • Emetic Property: The mucus contains a concentrated alkaline compound that triggers immediate gastric distress in carbon-based lifeforms to prevent grazing by native sea-birds or Porgs.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Average Height: Submerged colonies can spread across seafloors or ice fields with some kilometers in rare ancient beds. On the surface, mats typically reach 1–2 meters in height/diameter when buoyed up, with tendrils extending 3–5 meters underwater.
  • Average Length: Surface mats rarely exceed 3–4 meters in length; underwater, vast interconnected networks can span dozens or hundreds of meters in sheltered bays.
  • Color: Mottled greenish-brown with iridescent undertones in direct sunlight, reflecting Ahch-To's twin suns.
  • Nutritional Value: None; indigestible and causes severe indigestion, nausea, and vomiting if consumed (the slime acts as a natural emetic).
  • Toxicity: Not toxic enough to harm but when eaten it causes indigestion and vomiting.
  • Other Effects: Strong Force attunement; it resonates with light-side users, though dark-siders can force a bond with more volatile results similar to a bleeding.
  • Distinctions: Unlike common Ahch-To algae, Ashla's Root forms loose colonial networks near islands, creating a semi-hive mind for coordinated drifting or evasion. It glows faintly in the presence of strong Force users, and when bonded actively seek out their partner across the planet's waters, using currents to "follow" them.
Strengths:
  • Hydro Constructs: Through a telepathic bond with a Force-sensitive user, the algae manipulates surrounding water (or melted ice/snow) to form temporary constructs animals, shields, tendrils, or simple structures drawn from the user's mental imagery. Constructs last as long as concentration holds and remain tethered to a water source. On Ahch-To, Jedi could use them to go from island to island.
  • Force Sensitivity: Like kyber crystals, it grows attuned to the Force and calls to sensitive individuals.
  • Adaption: Survives transplantation to other aquatic or frozen environments if kept wet/icy. On icy worlds like Hoth, it forms weaker snow/ice constructs by freezing water around itself.
  • Hive Coordination: In dense gatherings near Ahch-To's islands, clusters share basic awareness, allowing collective movement against currents or threats.
Weaknesses:
  • Force Nullification: Ysalamiri fields, void stones, or other Force-dampening effects sever the bond and disable constructs instantly.
  • Surface of the Water: Constructs disintegrate rapidly if separated from a contiguous water/ice source must maintain at least partial contact, limiting range to ~10–20 meters typically.
  • Mental Connection: The bond requires mutual focus; distraction, injury, or emotional turmoil from either party causes constructs to collapse or warp unpredictably.
  • Environmental Limits: Desiccates in dry/arid conditions; extreme heat evaporates the slime coat, making it vulnerable. Ice constructs are brittle and smaller-scale than liquid water ones.
  • Predation & Harvesting: While slime deters most native fauna, persistent predators (or desperate sentients) can tear mats apart; overharvesting disrupts the hive mind.
  • Shapers: Water/ice specialists can disrupt constructs easily.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
A strange thing that was discovered on Ahch-To through exploration of the planet. THe jedi set out after exploring the main island temple and following the caretakers they were able to discover several ruined temple sites across the planet and a wide range of different fish. The deeper the oceans got in some places the stranger tthe fauna the probes revealed but when they came across a patch of algae between some of the islands the jedi discovered something interesting. The algae was alive or something close to it... they could feel it in the force, they could touch it and study it but it required to be almost submerged in the water. They studied it and it seemed to call out to some force users within the jedi allowing them to find bulbs of the algae that reacted to the force. WHen they connected with it their connection could shape the water around the algae into mental images.. simple at first but with training and concentration constructs could be formed that would use the water and could be solid if it was on the surface of the water... their couldn't make flying creatures but quadropedal beings able to run along the surface of the water or even constructs that fired the water at things like fire. The jedi continued to study it but they couldn't find much in the ways of history, the algae might show basic forms of awareness and intelligence but it was more on par with kyber crystals that could choose force users and call to them when they were in meditation. Experimenting with things like bleeding woulnd't be able to be preformed and outside of water the algae dried quickly which could kill the lifeform preventing large scale offworld endeavors.

Hello! I will be reviewing your submission.

I really love this concept, but the first thing I need to point out is that if this species is an algae, then the Flora template should be used as opposed to the current Fauna template. I can have this moved to Pre-Codex if you think it'd take some time to finish the template change.
