The smoke was still rising from the treeline when Valery stepped onto the scorched hilltop. Ash clung to the edges of her jumpsuit, her shoulders carried the weight of the fight just passed, and her saber hung idle at her belt once more. Around her, the aftermath of a small but sharp battle was laid bare. Downed vehicles, scattered blaster marks, and the groans of those who hadn't been quick enough to avoid the worst of it.

She exhaled slowly and raised a hand, fingers threading through sweat-matted hair as she looked over the wounded lining the edge of the field. Some were civilians caught in the crossfire. Others were soldiers who hadn't wanted the fight in the first place. There was no easy victory here. Just a planet in the Outer Rim, trying not to tear itself apart.

Valery activated her comm and brought it to her lips.

"This is Valery Noble. We've secured the site, but we have wounded. Civilians and militia both. I need support." A brief pause followed. Her tone softened, though the urgency never left it. "Once the wounded are patched up, we can hopefully put a stop to this conflict." With that, she turned off her comms and let out a sigh. Some things would be much easier if she had been able to heal people herself, but alas.

She couldn't be good at everything.

Then her eyes swept across the battered landscape once more, planning ahead in her mind while she waited.

The shuttle carrying Mak Ondor glided down, its expansive windows offering full views of the devastation that has been wrought on this world. Mak Ondor shook his head.

"If only they understood that no one wins in conflict before they initiate it. How much grief would be spared if they did not pick up a blaster at the first sign of trouble?"

The shuttle touched down softly, near to the Grandmaster. With a hiss of steam the door opened and ramp extended. Slowly the aged ithorian hobbled out of the craft, and walked over to where Valery Noble was standing.

"I am here, Grandmaster. It is unfortunate that we meet in such sorrowful circumstances. But I am told if it were not for you it would have been far worse.

As the Ithorian Master descended from the shuttle, Valery smiled. She faintly recognized him, not from earlier encounters, but from some of the work he had done for the Order. He most certainly possessed the skills she lacked to provide these people with medical aid. And together, they could hopefully push for a more diplomatic resolution.

"It's good to see you, Master Ondor."

She offered him a smile, then turned her gaze to her surroundings. An almost sad expression immediately took over, seeing the hurt in the people's eyes, and feeling their loss of hope.

"I wish the circumstances had been better, too," she continued. "But this is where we're most useful. I'd appreciate your help, offering these people some medical assistance. Then, we'll have to work together to find a way to stop this conflict. I've only been able to get both sides to withdraw and lick their wounds."

"They will be back at it eventually."

Mak Ondor nodded. The carnage was evident.

"Indeed. Perhaps together we can find some way forward without violence. Surely we can help them see their pain. I am glad you called me in."

Mak Ondor hobbled over to the wounded. He turned to address them, making sure to set his vocoder to a soft setting.

"Have peace. You have suffered so much, but let me take your pain."

He reached out with his tri fingered hands. He placed it on the injuries and closed his eyes. Mak Ondor felt the force, drawing on the familair tides. It was turbulent here due to the recent battle, but in time it could return to serenity. He channeled it through him like a river, helping it flow into the wounds. With practiced skill, he used it to fix the broken parts, accelerating the healing process by many factors. Soon the wounded man was healed, a singed hole in his armour the only evidence of the blaster wound he had sustained. But Mak Ondor did not rest. He carried on, connecting with the wounded as he channeled the living force to aid their injuries.

"I believe we can find a way," Valery said, her voice full of hope, "But just in case negotiations fail, I will remain here as well." As Grandmaster of the Order, diplomacy was not uncommon to her, and she felt confident that she could help settle the dispute. But her true strength was in the field as a warrior. It's how she had risen the ranks, and how she continues to distinguish herself as a leader in the Alliance to this day.

So, assistance from another Jedi Master was most welcome, especially one with the abilities of a Healer.

Valery watched as he got to work and smiled at the familiar sight of Force Healing. She had seen it many times before, and these skills had saved her life a few times as well. It never stopped to amaze her, despite the things she could do herself with assistance from the Force.

"If you need a moment to rest, please let me know," she told him as she watched him work. "I can imagine that healing all these people is quite demanding."

Mak Ondor continued to heal, but he listened to the grandmaster.
"But just in case negotiations fail, I will remain here as well."
"Of course. Do you know what started this conflict? By addressing the roots we can heal the tree."

He was indeed tiring. Using the force in such an extensive way was draining, even to one as powerful as he.

"If you need a moment to rest, please let me know,"
"Thank you Valery, I think I will. My stamina is not what it used to be."

He finished healing an injured soldier and stepped back, leaning on his cane while he recovered. He took out some food, home grown dryed fruits he carried with him. He began to distribute them to those who were hungry. He offered some to Valery.

"I should not be the only one recovering my strength. Would you like some? Dried jogan fruit. I am quite partial to them myself."

"A territorial dispute," Valery explained when asked about the cause of this conflict. "This planet has always been quite poor, but underground mines with valuable minerals were recently discovered. The problem is that these mines are immense and run through the territory of more than just one nation here."

And with a history of poverty, both nations view the mines as potential salvation.

"I'm trying to reach a middle ground and argue for a deal where both sides can profit from these mines, but it has proven difficult. The people are poor, but the leaders are not. Their greed is turning these people against each other." A shame because if the minerals were shared, both nations could do well.

But how would she convince them of that?

She let out a soft sigh and focused on Mak again, who decided to take a break from his work to eat. Valery looked at the fruit he produced and offered him a smile, "I'd love to try some." She dipped her head and accepted what he could spare.

"So..." she began after swallowing her first bite. "Do you have any idea how to tackle this problem?"

"Do you have any idea how to tackle this problem?"
The master thought for a bit, before speaking.

"Like most conflicts, the situation is complicated. How much involvement and force needed here is difficult to say. Allow me to meditate on the force here. Perhaps it may see fit to whisper its will."

Mak Ondor sat down in the dust cross legged and closed his eyes. He shut off the outside world slowly, its noise and chaos decreasing to a murmer, then silence. Mak Ondor had meditated like this many times before, and he knew the way like a path in a garden. The force flowed like a river as always, its tides and flow as majestic as he remembered. Here there was a part that seem troubled, like a new rock disrupting the flow. No doubt caused by the conflict. While disturbances in the force were well known, few knew that even the smallest conflicts reflicted in the force.

Ondor listened. The force never spoke, not directly. But it hinted. It nudged. You felt things you wouldnt normally feel, and thought things you wouldnt normally think. Suggestions and ideas. Finding them amidst your own mind and sowul was difficult, but Mak Ondor had spent over two lifetimes refining the art. And as he listened, he was answered.

From the outside Mak Ondor had begun to float about half a meter in the air. Small pebbles and rocks floated slowly around him, and an aura of peace radiated from him. After some time in meditation he floated down gently, before returning his attention to the world around him.

"The people here have noble hearts, wishing only to live with the respect they deserve. As you have told me it is the leaders who are causing the imbalances. To truly bring peace the leaders have to come to a new understanding, one where they understand the suffering of their citezins.

To bring perspective I believe the leaders should work a day in the mines. Perhaps the beauty and size of the caves will show them their is plenty of ore to be shared, and the labour will breed empathy in their hearts. And in the mines on neutral ground a treaty of understanding could be signed."

Valery listened quietly as Mak explained what the Force had shown him. His words made sense. The heart of the problem was not the people on the ground, but those in power who had lost sight of what truly mattered. If anything was going to change, it had to start with them.

"I think you're right," she said after a thoughtful pause. "But if we want those leaders to work in the mines or even consider sitting down for a treaty, we will need to go to them. This is not something they will agree to easily."

She looked out over the field again, watching as medics moved between the wounded and others began clearing debris from the last battle. There was still so much work to do here, but this next step felt just as important.

"We will need to speak to each side directly. Convince them that continued fighting is not just costly, but pointless. And if we can get them to see that there is a path forward... then maybe we really can end this before more lives are lost."

Valery turned her gaze back to Mak.

"Will you come with me? I think your presence will make a difference."

This is not something they will agree to easily.
Mak Ondor nodded.
"Those who benefit from struggle often resist attempts to relieve said struggle. You are right we will have to tread carefully."

"Will you come with me? I think your presence will make a difference."
"Of course. I am sure together we can persuade them. I for one would not like to argue against two Jedi masters."

Mak Ondor gestured to Valery to lead the way, happy to act as backup for her.

Valery offered a nod of agreement and turned, leading Mak toward the nearby landing pad where her shuttle was waiting. The path took them past a few lingering workers and supply crates, but the air had begun to settle again. The noise of the earlier skirmish was gone now, replaced by a heavy but hopeful calm.

The sleek transport sat with its ramp lowered, ready for departure. Nearby, tucked beside it, rested a speeder bike already prepped for travel. Valery stopped between the two, then looked over her shoulder at Mak with a smirk tugging at the corner of her lips.

"Well," she said, a faint glint in her eyes, "You have two options. I can take you along in the shuttle, or you can ride with me on the speeder. Might be a little faster. A little bumpier too."

She folded her arms lightly and waited, clearly amused but leaving the decision to him. "So, what do you say? Want to feel the wind, or stay in the cabin?"
