Ascending Legend
The late afternoon sunlight filtered through the greenery surrounding Iandre's flat, casting a warm glow across the covered terrace. Situated within walking distance of Veradune's administrative district, her residence offered a welcome retreat from the responsibilities that occupied much of her day. The terrace had quickly become one of her favorite places, with flowering plants and herbs growing along its edges and a pleasant view of the city beyond the trees.
Tonight, she had set the round table for three, with a selection of side dishes arranged beneath protective covers while she finished preparing the main course. Wine and chilled water were available for her guests, and the familiar aroma of food cooking on the grill mingled with the fragrances of her garden. She had arranged everything with the same care and attention she brought to most things, though the atmosphere was far more relaxed than anything resembling a military gathering.
Judah had already arrived, and Iandre was pleased to have him there while they waited for her younger brother. She had been looking forward to introducing the two men ever since her conversation with Aknoby aboard Aurora Station. A little anticipation accompanied that excitement, though she had no particular reason to believe the evening would be anything but pleasant.
"I should warn you that Aknoby has been rather curious about you," she remarked to Judah, glancing over her shoulder with an affectionate smile before returning her attention to the grill. "He was quite pleased when I told him we'd been seeing each other. I suspect he'll have a few questions."
She adjusted the heat under the food and checked its progress, satisfied dinner would be ready soon. With any luck, her brother would arrive before she needed to take everything off the grill.
"Of course, knowing him, I should probably be more concerned about what he'll tell you about me." Her voice held unmistakable fondness as she said it.
