Protector of The Iron Realm
One of our goals is to communicate with you guys, the members, regularly. As such, you'll see more feedback threads like this go up in the future.

To the topic at hand: the One Sith Army. As you read in the December news update, I will be taking this on as a pet project, with the goal of building it up. So in this thread, I want to sit down with you, and talk about the Army. I want to hear your thoughts on it. I want to know what you want from it, what you don't like, what you feel like we could improve on, etc.

I want you to be honest. As I stated, our goal is to create something you guys want to be a part of, and help build. So hearing what you think, and what you want most importantly, is imperative to that.

So please, tell us what you think.

Ideas mentioned:
  • Military organization tree.
  • Integrate the ideas of members into the Military's structure.
  • More story driven military campaigns.
  • OOC Commander for Invasions
  • War Games for NPC Battle training
  • Tutorial/Training threads for new members
  • Equipment Builds

I think we need to organize it better. We could sort of have a tree map showing the military's organization. In example, the top could say "Isamu Baelor- Supreme Commander." Branching off, we could have something like: "Darth Vornskr- General- 1st Corps." Basically a huge concept map like a family tree showing the organization and structure of the OS military. Do you get where I'm going with this?

Structure definitely for the bulk, but not at the cost of allowing people to dev sith inspired units, or bring new ideas in to their roleplay, so you always have fresh ideas or material coming in to replace characters dying or going inactive.

Kylath is very much standard legion material, stormtroopers etc. I'd like though special forces, like the Sith Spawn Krayt's tomb Guardians and biodroids for Raien which I will one day eventually, maybe, possibly get off my butt and create formally, to have a place.

Could do this for small things like a detachment, in the above case, attached to the *insert number here*, or just allow people to submit new units as they like, to add up to the main roster. We have some vong infantry for example, very strong, they should definitely be there when we need it.

That's a good idea! I dig it. It could let new people get a quick, and concise, understanding of the structure of our military, and where they could fit. That's good. There is a problem, however. We have a lack of military people. At the moment, I think the tree would look like a small branch, haha. Once we get more people, I'll make one up.

Yea, we don't want to stifle peoples creativity. In cases like those, I'd want to integrate their ideas/units into the structure.

There was the idea and the thread you and I have going on, the ODST trooper. Could do more?
Yup, and you gave me an idea.

Would you guys, and anyone else viewing this thread, be interested in doing a military campaign? Something more story driven then "Here's an army of bad guys, go kill them!"

I've got an initial idea: While putting down a Rebellion, an ambitious One Sith officer and his troops turn on us, and attempt to kill us, while planning to blame it on the Rebels. He wants to use the potential power vacuum as a means to rise in rank, and power. Cut off from supplies or reinforcements, we'd have to beat him and the traitor forces, or die trying.

Does that sound like something you'd guys want to be a part of?

I do think we need a better organization, we need an OOC power structure and command chain for battles so it's not a free for all mess. Contruum had everyone just doing their own thing. I was nominated to lead the battle and then only about half the people listened when I tried to outline a battle plan.

Ground warfare is about coordination and cooperation. If everyone is out there for themselves, you're going to lose.

Also, I get kinda bored of writing against myself with NPC baddies in doms and things.

I wouldn't mind a series of war games where we divide our current forces into two sides and give them a neutral objective and non-lethal weapons and tell them to capture the objective.

I would also recommend training maneuvers for ground campaigns. Once you learn how to do it, ground combat is not that hard. But some are intimidated by it and fleeting. Folks might want to learn ground warfare and increasing our player base for military objectives is always a good thing. Teach them there is nothing to be afraid of in a troop battle.

I would love a story driven thread.

While I'm not exactly part of the military, I have seen some combat (especially taking on Jedi to hold them off from Coruscant's temple).

I wouldn't mind if Nyte found herself on the outskirts of an operation, if you can find a use for her.

I would also agree with [member="Kira Corsai"] about training, that would be very interesting and fun.

Yea, Contruum/Balmorra was a mess. I think having an OOC commander could help alleviate that. At the same time though, I don't want to everyone in an entire objective to listen to one person. We might take that on a invasion-to-invasion basis, and see how it goes.

War Games is a great idea. We can get the members some training in NPC Battle threads.

You're right about NPC battles seeming intimidating. It was to me at first. We can put up some tutorial threads, and other stuff, to help teach new members how to battle.

Great ideas!

My plan is for all this stuff to be open to FU's as well. I don't want anyone getting excluded.

It's a good basis we can use to build our wargames/training sessions off. Thanks!

Could we have a separate rank structure for Imperial Agents and Asassins? If we have this and im just not aware I do apologize
We do!

It's my bad. I just completely spaced that we had this.

Give it look over, and see what rank you'd like and in which division.

In a place like this, I feel like force users steal the show. There's usually a lot more opportunity to rp as a FU then a NFU, so if you can allow me to rp and actually make it feel like my character's a part of the military and I actually get to do stuff with that military that isn't just combat all the time, I'm sold. Practice battles, and combat training would be excellent. Anything to give the feel of a regular army would be kick ass. It'd also probably give more initiative to other members to join us.

Also, I would honestly love being given orders from a commanding officer on the battle field. It would make me feel in character. Someone giving out orders would hardly cramp my role-playing at all. Odds are, I would've done the same thing I'm being told what to do anyways. It also would allow us as soldiers to have better formations, and it would truly feel like an army.

That's always been our big weakness OOCly, we appeal more to FUs than we do to NFUs.

But in recent times we've been working hard to make it appealing to NFUs as well, hence why [member="Isamu Baelor"] is slaving away redefining the military.

You make good points and I think you will be happy to know that we are trying to make the army a bigger part of the One Sith.

Firstly, we are starting to include special objectives for the Army and Navy in our dominions (with permission of the person who came up with the idea of the dominion, of course) so there will be more threads for members of the military to participate in. Also, we have a couple of planned threads for the New Year and we will post in OOC planning and tag other members of the military to see if there is interest before starting the thread. Finally, we have plans to work with the navy in some threads so that it is more military like as I think it would be a lot of fun if the army and navy were to work together. :D

I've also tagged you in the Dominion of Vullain as that has military objectives if you are interested. :)

Link just in case:

I've noticed that new members tend to have trouble with what equipment to use (armor, weapons, etc)

So I'm gonna enlist some help, and come up with some equipment builds. A general build. Anti-Force User build. Melee build. etc.
