SETTING INFORMATION
  • Structure Name: Aran'dyr (from Mando'a "aran," meaning "guard," and the Vallic suffix "dyr," referring to a high peak or fortress)
  • Classification: Mountain Compound
  • Location: Skyspire Range, Vaal
  • Affiliation: Adonis Angelis IV Adonis Angelis IV
  • Accessibility:
Aran'dyr is located within a smaller mountain housed in the Skyspire Range. While not entirely hidden, the compound is intentionally difficult to approach without permission. Mountain weather, elevation changes, monitored approach routes, and limited access corridors naturally restrict movement through the area.

Most visitors and deliveries arrive by air through the summit hangar. Ground access exists through maintenance roads and older mining routes, though many eventually terminate at security checkpoints or sealed entrances. The compound is staffed year-round by cooks, maintenance crews, hired security personnel, and Mandalorian warriors loyal to Adonis. Public guests are generally limited to the Courtyard level unless granted further clearance.

  • Description:
Aran'dyr is a luxury mountain compound carved directly into the stone of the Skyspire Range. Unlike traditional fortresses built atop peaks, the majority of the structure exists within the mountain itself, with only portions of the summit, terraces, and exterior openings visible from outside.

The structure is carved straight into the mountain, with reinforced sections layered over natural stone rather than replacing it. Clean lines and geometric detailing give it shape, while metal and gold accents are used sparingly. The Mandalorian influence is present, but restrained, and the space still reads as something built into Vaal rather than set on top of it.

Much of the compound's reinforcement incorporates locally sourced phrik from the nearby Skyspire Mines. While the material is used sparingly throughout public areas, critical infrastructure, structural supports, blast systems, and environmental shielding heavily utilize phrik reinforcement to survive Vaal's volatile mountain storms.

Though heavily defended, Aran'dyr was designed first as a home. The compound is intended to remain active even during Adonis's absence, with permanent staff, operational facilities, and self-sustaining infrastructure allowing it to function as a living estate rather than an isolated bunker. Staff also handles Adonis's share of clerical work for the mines, ensuring his attention can be where it is needed.

POINTS OF INTEREST

The Summit serves as Aran'dyr's primary access point and occupies the uppermost section of the mountain. Rather than a conventional landing pad, the summit features a massive hangar carved directly into the mountain's peak, resembling the recessed bay doors of a starship more than a traditional structure.

The hangar is capable of housing multiple ships, Basilisk war droids, and large aerial mounts such as dragons. Interior maintenance gantries, refueling systems, and storage bays line the deeper portions of the chamber while a magnetic containment field protects the interior from debris, wind shear, and pressure shifts during severe storms. Blast doors can shut in case of attack.

Towering atmospheric spires rise from the summit ridge above the hangar. Built to attract and channel lightning strikes, these structures redirect captured energy into the compound's power grid during Vaal's storm seasons. While effective, the system remains unstable under excessive strain, forcing the compound to rely on carefully managed energy distribution protocols.

The Summit contains:
  • Primary hangar bay carved into the mountain
  • Reinforced hangar bay door with sealing mechanisms
  • Stabilized landing area for approach and departure
  • Docking, maintenance, and repair facilities for vessels and Basilisk war droids
  • Enclosed space suitable for large creatures
  • Fuel and supply storage integrated into the structure
  • Access corridors and lift systems to lower levels
  • Environmental sealing systems for storm conditions
  • Lightning-attracting spires tied into compound systems
  • Sensor arrays and concealed turret defenses

Descending in the lift from the Summit reveals The Courtyard- the social heart of Aran'dyr. Carved into a massive internal cavity within the mountain, the Courtyard opens partially to the sky through a narrow break in the stone above, allowing natural light, rainfall, and sounds of nature to enter the space during calmer weather. During severe storms or security lockdowns, layered deflector shields can seal the opening overhead, protecting the interior from debris, lightning strikes, and atmospheric pressure shifts without fully isolating the space from the outside world.

At its center rests a long reflecting pool surrounded by polished stone walkways and recessed lighting. Warm gold illumination contrasts against dark mountain walls while carefully maintained greenery softens the otherwise imposing architecture. Unlike the lower levels, the Courtyard feels inhabited and alive. Staff move throughout the halls at all hours, meals are prepared daily, and visitors are treated with genuine hospitality despite the compound's security-conscious nature. Most who visit Aran'dyr never descend beyond this level.

The Courtyard contains:
  • Guest suites
  • Permanent staff quarters
  • Dining halls and kitchens
  • Lounges and gathering spaces
  • Smaller fitness and training facilities
  • Medical and recovery rooms
  • Administrative offices

The operational and defensive center of Aran'dyr is The Core. Access requires lift authorization and security clearance, with most visitors prohibited from entering entirely. The atmosphere changes noticeably upon entering the core. Decorative warmth gives way to quiet corridors, phrik reinforced architecture, and a more disciplined environment occupied primarily by Mandalorian personnel.

Critical infrastructure throughout the core utilizes phrik-reinforced blast doors, armored supports, and compartmentalized corridor systems capable of sealing sections independently during emergencies.

Hidden somewhere within the core is a concealed escape route known only to Adonis himself. Even Aran'dyr's security personnel remain unaware of its location. If the courtyard represents the public face of Aran'dyr, the core is its heart.

The Core contains:
  • Security monitoring systems
  • Communications and command infrastructure
  • Rapid response staging areas
  • Mandalorian barracks
  • Restricted armories
  • Emergency lockdown controls
  • Vault and panic room facilities

The Forge occupies the deepest major level of the compound and serves as both a workshop and personal sanctuary for Adonis. Larger and more open than the Core, the space blends industrial function with training areas and quieter sections meant for recovery and reflection. It is one of the few levels where the structure feels fully lived in rather than simply maintained.

Adonis's personal chambers are located here, set slightly apart from the main activity but not removed from it. The space is simple and deliberate, built into the structure itself rather than furnished outward. An integrated armor stand is positioned within the chamber, designed to hold and maintain his armor when not in use, alongside tools and space for ongoing repair.

Sections of the forge can open directly to the outside mountain air through retractable barriers and venting systems designed to disperse heat and smoke naturally. When conditions allow, the level is partially exposed to the elements, bringing in wind, sound, and ambient light from the surrounding range.

During storms, these openings seal automatically. An integrated atmospheric filtration system maintains airflow throughout the level, allowing the forge to remain operational even under full shield coverage.

The filtration systems are capable of rapidly dispersing smoke, toxins, and airborne contaminants in the event of accidents or attacks. Like much of the compound, however, these systems rely heavily on stable power distribution, making prolonged outages a potential vulnerability despite the mountain's natural protection.

The Forge contains:
  • Weapon and armor workshops
  • Adonis's personal chambers
  • A large open forge floor
  • Combat training halls and sparring floors
  • A personal gym showing clear signs of regular use
  • A recovery pool and hydrotherapy chamber
  • Trophy displays and curated artifacts
  • Storage for refined and unfinished phrik, beskar, and other materials

During severe electrical storms that happen in Vaal's wet season, Aran'dyr automatically enters a low-consumption state known informally as Storm Mode. As lightning strikes intensify across the summit spires, non-essential systems throughout the compound begin shutting down or dimming to prevent catastrophic power surges. Decorative lighting fades, unused hallways darken, and inactive systems enter standby states while occupied rooms, security infrastructure, life support, and active workspaces remain fully powered.

SECURITY

Rating:
High
  • Layered deflector shield systems protecting exposed sections of the compound
  • Atmospheric lightning spires capable of redirecting electrical discharge into emergency reserves
  • Magnetic containment field protecting the summit hangar
  • Integrated sensor arrays, passive sensor arrays, and proximity sensors monitoring surrounding terrain and atmospheric conditions
  • Concealed autoturrets and point-defense laser cannons integrated into exterior stonework
  • Blast-door lockdown systems capable of isolating sections of the compound
  • Advanced HVAC and atmospheric filtration systems capable of dispersing airborne toxins and smoke
  • Phrik-reinforced structural supports and critical infrastructure
  • Permanent hired security personnel stationed throughout Courtyard
  • Mandalorian rapid-response personnel housed within Core
  • Restricted lift authorization between compound layers

Aran'dyr's defenses are designed primarily around layered survival, controlled access, and environmental adaptation rather than outright military domination. The compound is difficult to assault directly, but its systems remain heavily dependent on power and maintenance. Major failures within the shield network, ventilation systems, or energy grid can quickly create dangerous conditions throughout the structure.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Aran'dyr was commissioned by Adonis Angelis IV shortly after he secured partial ownership of the Skyspire Mines. The project was kept deliberately quiet from the start, built through compartmentalized contractors and isolated crews who were only ever given the portion of work directly in front of them. No single group was aware of the full structure, and the compound itself was never publicly acknowledged during construction.

Rather than being built on the mountain, Aran'dyr was carved into it. The design focused on permanence and integration, shaping the existing stone into a functional stronghold rather than imposing a separate structure onto the landscape. The result was a compound that remained largely concealed.

Construction continued without interruption during Adonis's disappearance and capture. Funding had already been secured through Skyspire mining revenue and distributed through scheduled transfers managed by a trusted intermediary. With payments continuing and no instruction to halt progress, the contractors completed the project under the assumption that Adonis remained occupied elsewhere.

By the time he returned to Vaal, the structure itself had already been finished. What he came home to was a completed compound that had yet to be inhabited. Systems were in place and the architecture was fully finished, but the space had not yet been shaped by routine or presence.

Over the following months, Aran'dyr transitioned from a completed structure into an active stronghold. Staff were vetted and hired, living quarters furnished, and operational systems brought online. Security forces were established, with hired personnel maintaining the upper levels while Mandalorians loyal to Adonis took residence within the Core. The Forge level became an active workspace and training ground rather than a dormant installation beneath the mountain.

Aran'dyr now serves as both a private residence and a regional foothold. It reflects Adonis's position within the Skyspire Range, functioning as a place of control, recovery, and preparation. Though built in his absence, it has since been defined by how it is used, rather than how it was constructed.
