Approved Species Arachneri

Status
Not open for further replies.
Name: Arachneri (arak-neer-ie)

Designation: Sentient

Homeworld: Hoth, Naboo, Coruscant, Corellia, Korriban, it is unknown where they are from, but these are the many common places one can find them.

Language: Archena, Basic

Average height of adults:
Females; 3-4 meters
Males; 2-3 meters

Skin color: Their exoskeleton can be of any color really, they can be beautiful assortment of colors, to plane dark colors, while the human half of their body can vary with regular human skin tones.

Hair color: White, Red, Grey, Black, Brown, Blonde, dyable.

Breathes: type 1

Strengths:
HARD EXOSKELETON - Their exoskeleton can take a blaster, or slug thrower shot.
STRONG SILKS - Their silks are capable of holding almost any creature still, its said their silk is has strong as durasteel.
SILENT MOVEMENTS - Despite their large size, they are quite the silent predator, able to move without making sounds of steps.
HIGHLY INTELLIGENT - These people are very smart, and able to retain all information they receive, and apply it.

Weaknesses:
SCARY APPEARANCES -Most people outcast them for their scary looks, being half spider, and half human.
LARGE BODIES - These people need large spaces to move about as they themselves are large.
NON-FORCE SENSITIVE - One of the rare species that can not touch the force, they are not force dead, they are just unable to wield it.
SENSITIVE EYES - Their eyes are sensitive to light, not saying they can not be in day time, but sudden bursts of bright lights can scare them, temporarily blind them, and cause confusion.
PRESSURE SENSITIVITY - Most Arachneries that have never experienced space travel need conditioning to handle the pressure changes as the pressure changes can cause them to hibernate, and or become space sick.
COLD SENSITIVE - Because they are able to produce warm blood to an extent, they can survive the cold longer, but it's not recommended that they experience cold weather without proper gear, they will become lethargic, inactive, and die.

Distinctions: Arachneries are a very unique people in the sense that they have a body of a spider attached to their lower half's. While having eight legs, they have the normal upper bodies of human beings but with six, or more eyes that have no pupils. They are usually solid reds, and blues, along with greens, and yellows. As well as their teeth are know to be sharp and razor like. Because they possess the body of a spider, and the upper half of a human, they have human hearts, capable of making warm blood to some extent, and possess a pair of human lungs, and book lungs (they have the ability to choose which set they use to breathe with at the moment).

Average Lifespan: 200 years

Races:
  • Venoarch - A variety with small venom glands where a human's thyroid would be, these glands are connected to two K9s in the mouth. The poison is a paralysis type, and they are usually smaller than the other races.
  • Basilikarch - A variety that is very sleek, and slim, considered some of the most beautiful race of their kind, and the most sexually active as well. They do not possess venom glands. They also appear to have no visible hairs on their bodies, other than their human halves.
  • Trancharch - A more hairy variety, and more warm blooded, this race is able to withstand the cold more than any other Arachneries. They are usually the largest too.
  • Skelearch - The most fearsome of the Arachneries, they usually have an exoskeleton covering their arms, and sometimes even their upper face (Nose up). They are usually the less violent/aggressive of the people though.
Estimated Population: 1 Million +

Diet:
Meats (cooked or not)
Relatively anything not a meat will make them sick to their stomachs

Communication: Besides the basic forms of human speech, and their native tongue, they also make clicking sounds depending on their moods. Constant clicking sounds would mean annoyance, while a single click could mean confusion, or intrigued. A few clicking sound (2-3) would mean excitement, or joy.

Culture: Arachenri have long been enticed by the concepts of space travel, and tinkering with various technology. Because of their near photographic memory, they are some of the best engineers, tacticians, and assassins the galaxy can offer. Their culture expands to being very reclusive, and nearly non socialistic, this is not due to lack of trust, as they apply logic to their daily lives and understand that they appear frightening, but because they are constantly reading, and learning. They upper half's have always been praised as beautiful, while their lower half's as terrifying. The females seem to always be larger than males, and you will hardly ever find more than one in the same room. Mating rituals usually include males' attempts at trying to seduce females with dances passed on from their ancestors, to breeding arrangements (similar to marriage arrangements in human royal societies). It is said their primitive ancestors acted much like everyday spiders (except with the human half being still present) producing webs, and waiting for prey to get caught in it, this still is a thing that Arachenries do, but with the galaxy present state hunting is almost not a necessity anymore as food can be purchased from markets. This has not hindered their ability to make webs though, and they are still as strong as they were thousands of years ago. What is strange, yet unique, about these people is that as long as the mate is of near-human as one can be (I.e. Kiffar, Vahla, Hapan..) breeding is very possible. Arachenries possess two types of sexual organs, probably partly due to evolutionary means, one inner species breeding, and human sex organs, though to mate with Arachneries is considered very taboo. Apparently their digestive system takes months to digest a meal, therefore allowing one to go a while, estimated six months, without eating. After birth, females do not try to devour their mates like a normal species of spiders do, in fact, a egg/womb sac begins to grow from beneath her abdomen that carries a single Arachaly (What they call their children), females are known to be, though, highly independent mothers, and caring compared to normal spiders. They are easily a misunderstood people.
Outside of the mating rituals, territory is a big thing in female lives, and entering it without their permission can lead to a very angry female. Males are more so wanderers.
They do molt their exoskeletons when going through a growth spurt, these moltings can last up to a month, and considered a very private thing among their people. Only people they truly trust could witness such a beautiful moment, and survive to tell the tale.
Mating is done through impressions, and gifting, females seem to enjoy shiny things. The shiner something is, the more likely the male will get to mate. Gifts can also be something that smells pretty, or just a very sentimental item. impressions are usually their first impression on people. If the first impression is a pretty good one, chances are, those guys will be lucky. Females tend to hate rudeness, and those without manners. They tend to enjoy men who can look them dead in the eyes without hesitation, and those who arnt afraid to say whats on their mind. To defend one, be it male, or female, from any sort of harassment, verbal, physical, etc etc, almost always guarantees a friendship.
Let it also be known that these people will not shy away from a conversation, but can become quickly bored if the conversation is dull, or going no where.
When it comes to religion, these people have no actual set religion, they can be seen adopting beliefs of other species, and what not, but because they hardly congregate with one another in large groups, they have no real set believes. They do, however, hold those with the powers of the force in high regard as it was Jedi who first taught their people, though they dont really care what side of the force.

Technology Level: Equal if not advanced to the galaxy's present level

General behavior: Being reclusive, their most common habits witnessed is crowd watching, and reading. It appears that Arachneries possess a lust for knowledge, and during mating seasons, these come twice a season, they become highly sexually active. Their very polite, and respective while also conservative, and always willing to lend a hand...for a price. The clicking noises they man, either with their tongues, or legs, is the one thing all people who first encounter one of these should quickly learn about.

History: Arachneries, or something similar to Arachneries, were first encounters by the Jedi Council of the Old Republic a few years before the Clone Wars as primitives, though it was not the case. They were first spotted on Naboo in caves. The Jedi figured them to be descendants of the Spider People, which is more than likely the case, but realized quickly that Naboo was not the only place these beings could be found. Hoth was another place where they could be found, and even Rhen Var. Apparently, like many other non sentient spider species, they were very common, but also able to learn quickly, and efficiently. With many knowledgeable people teaching the people, and spreading the lessons to others like them in the galaxy, almost ALL Arachneries became highly intelligent beings. They were essential in the Clone Wars, teaching Clone Commandos the essence of how to stealthy approach enemies, and helping the tacticians provide appropriate, and effective Intel to soldiers. After the Clone Wars, the Empire used them in hunting the Jedi, using their predator like instincts to figure out where the Jedi may have went into hiding, and later during the Imperial Remnant, and Galactic Alliance could be found as Captains of ships as their appliance of space warfare was astonishing.
Notable Player-Characters: N/A

Intent: To create a very scary, but very intelligent, and near gentle creature. Also because we needed more Spider People thingies.

I...actually like this quite a bit.

Just a few things:

These are not weaknesses. You may keep them here as they are listed but I'm going to require at the very least two more legit weaknesses.

I would recommend doing a small bit of research on real spiders and finding a few legit weaknesses of arachnids to add to this. Two such weaknesses that quickly comes to mind is the cold (spiders and insects in general cannot handle cold temperatures, become lethargic and die very quickly when exposed to them) and chemicals/pesticides. Most all arachnids are highly sensitive to these things and die quite easily when exposed to them.

Another might include: Pressure - insects do not deal well with drastic changes in pressure. Space travel, perhaps, could make them sick/ lethargic/cause them to hibernate.

Thanks! I am glad you like em!!

Here is what I have added:

PRESSURE SENSITIVITY - Most Arachneries that have never experienced space travel need conditioning to handle the pressure changes as the pressure changes can cause them to hibernate, and or become space sick.
COLD SENSITIVE - Because they are able to produce warm blood to an extent, they can survive the cold longer, but it's not recommended that they experience cold weather without proper gear, they will become lethargic, inactive, and die.

Because they possess the body of a spider, and the upper half of a human, they have human hearts, capable of making warm blood to some extent, and possess a pair of human lungs, and book lungs (they have the ability to choose which set they use to breathe with at the moment).

^ About this, I thought it would be appropriate to add as they would possess these things.

Those are good details to add, yes.

A few more questions:

Do the females lay eggs or give birth to live young? How many young do they birth in a single clutch? How long does it take to reach maturity?

Do the females attempt to kill/eat the male after mating?

Being that these guys are reclusive, does this make them particularly territorial outside of mating season?

Are there different types/races of this species with varying degrees of attributes such as poisonous/venomous stingers/fangs, larger bulkier types like tarantulas, smaller and finer types like black widows?

As an aside - what is the actual spelling of the species name? The topic title says "Arachenri" while the skeleton says "Arachneri"

Males are more so wonders.
Do you mean wanderers?

This is good development so far. Now I have a few more questions...

Due to there being a smaller population of these creatures across the galaxy, being that the males are nomadic and the females seem to keep to a certain territory, does this mean that there is competition for mating? In general for spider populations males tend to be more prominent and often end up competing over the same female. Does this hold true for these guys? Or are they more ritualistic in that if more than one male shows up to a female's doorstep, do they all attempt to woo her and she then chooses the best one?

Good work. :)

My last questions deal with religion.

Do the Arachneri have their own religion or do they merely adopt the beliefs from the cultures of people on the planets in which they live? If they have their own could you please describe it.
