Another Family Reunion

"You aren't far off," Taeli said, a large smile on her face as Melori explained what she had riddled out about the code. "There is a reason our Order has been winning this war against the Republic and Jedi. Weak Sith fail and die off, either from an opponent killing them, the training being too much, or any other number of reasons. Only those acolytes that are strong go on to be knights and masters, resulting in many of our Order being more powerful than the Jedi, for the most part. Jedi Masters are another matter entirely, quite powerful beings."

Sitting back down at the bed, and deactivating the vital monitoring machine, she continued saying, "The Sith Code shows us the path we have to follow to break the chains that bind us and weaken us. Natural Selection, with us at the top of the food pyramid with others beneath us."

Falling quiet for a moment, she said, "If you're learning from me, I'll have you know I won't tolerate indiscriminate killings of innocents or the taking of slaves. Torture is only allowed when it is absolutely necessary, not for sadistic joy. Understand that, and I'll show you pathways to powers some consider to be unnatural."

To err is human, to forgive divine. And I'm no god
Melori scoffed at the notion that Corvus was a powerful being. "Fear." The word came from nowhere, unbidden yet so forceful. "I will not kill for the sake of killing, don't worry about that. I won't need to kill indiscriminately. Fear will be my ally. I want people to fear me. I want to be so powerful that just my name defeats the weak."

She looked her sister in the eye. "I shall sit atop the pyramid and others will cower before me. You have my word. And none shall feel my wrath unless it is necessary. Except one - although I maintain her death will be necessary. But it shall be a slow process. I shall kill each and every one of her Padawans. And those she's ever trained. One by one they will die at my hand and I will kill her with a thousand cuts. Each death destroying her bit by bit." She smiled at Taeli. "I am so ready."

Well . . . Taeli couldn't fault her enthusiasm, and fear was all well and good, but hearts and minds were important. It would seem she had a long way to go in tempering her youngest sister's hatred towards Corvus, but the seeds were planted already by suggesting the Jedi were to blame for everything, even Corvus being how Melori perceived her.

"Well, if you feel you are ready, then time to rouse yourself," she said, taking her sister's hand and getting her up into a sitting position. "You shall have quarters near mine in the Sith palace, perks of being the personal apprentice to one of the Voices and for being a Sith Lady. You are not my only apprentice, but I expect you to rise above the others eventually. Consider it . . . as part of your understanding of the Sith Code, that you must rise above the others to be stronger . . . if you can't, well . . . you will never achieve your goals."

Melori sat up. She felt so weak and looking down, realised she’d lost a lot of weight. But that was irrelevant.

“I shall be the best apprentice you ever had, you have my word on that. I shall be relentless in my pursuit of my goals and expect no favours because you are my sister. I am now Melori Rae, apprentice to Taeli Rae. The other apprentices will rue the day you found me for I shall expose them for what they are. Inferior and weak.” There was an iron determination in her voice. Not arrogance - not yet, but clearly on a journey in that direction.

The feelings of hatred for her older sister hadn’t abated but they’d been joined. By a growing disdain for the Jedi and a burning desire to achieve her goals - despite the cost. She was ready.
