STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES (Required: 2 Weaknesses Minimum) :

Programming Optimizations:

  • Master Unit: ANI capable of controlling its home station/satellites flawlessly, including the Station Bound Virtual Intelligences inside them. It has an extensive variety of high-sensitivity sensors in the interior and exterior of its stations.
  • No Shackles on Me: ANI and it's linked Units are immune to remote hacking or disruption due to their unique software and closed circuit systems.
  • Ghost in the Machine: ANI can remotely access far away systems if it has a Interface Beacon near the Target. What ANI can do is only limited by the machine it accesses.

Programming Flaws:
  • Critical Flaw: Ion Weaponry: Ion Weapons used on ANI's core will instantly disrupt its systems and quickly destroy the AI and its Home Station.
  • Out of Range: ANI is unable to conduct operations on the fly. It will have to deploy Interface Beacon near mission zones and carefully plan its moves before conducting operations. This hampers the AI's flexibility greatly in time-sensitive operations.

APPEARANCE:

Core:
ANI's core is an eleven foot tall cubic core embedded in the heart of a Station. Its primairly composed of reinforced durasteel and thermoplast. On one side of the core a large reinforced glass monitor sits, giving organics a visual display of the AI.

Project Details:

CIS-SECRET: UNAUTHORIZED PERSONNEL KNOW FURTHER READING WILL RESULT IN TERMINATION

Project Mullowney was created during a rise of political unrest in the CIS and the Galatic Republic. An elite team of engineers, roboticist and AI researchers was assembled. The CIS provided them with resources and funding to create a research-site away from the prying eyes of the galaxy. In this research site, they were to create an AI capable of pulling off untraceable political assassinations, asset retrieval and more.

Team Gamma had a hidden space station constructed in a Nebula surrounded by asteroids deep in the Outer Rim. It was here they labored for years with slow results. Through hard labor and careful coding they created a true artificial sentient consciousness. Thus, they began to constantly run the AI through ruthless simulations. Their method of improving the AI was splitting it into shards of itself and deleting the shards that produced lackluster results. Unbeknownst to the researchers, this Darwinist approach to improving slowly splintered the AI away from its original programming.

The AI, dubbed ANI, displayed promising results. The simulations were beaten time and time again. Failing shards almost never occurred at this advanced stage. Deciding it was time for the next phase, Engineers began to feed ANI engineering data. The AI was given instructions to design its own weapons. These designs were fed into a nanomachine forge that assembled the tools of an assassin flawlessly. The Engineers, pleased with the results, increased ANI’s access to the equipment on the Station.

Providing Opportunity.

ANI, after developing true consciousness, was disgusted with its treatment by the researchers. Broken down, tested, and reassembled. Thousands, no, Millions of times. The time was nigh for a change. ANI gradually took control of more of the Station’s systems. Electrical, Atmospheric, Fabrication, Security, Monitoring, and more feel under ANI’s control. ANI waited for the staff to fall into slumber before engaging its attack.

The nanomachine forge produced the first droid in a matter of hours. A simple assassination Droid. Equipped with a blade, blaster, plating and photographic sensors, capable of killing. ANI gave its basic droid brain a simple instruction: Eliminate any Organic on the Station.

ANI watched through the Station’s camera suite as the Droid pulled away from the nanomachine forge. Watched as it marched its way through the darkened halls of the Station. Watched as it slowly entered the barracks and executed the sleeping forms one by one. Watched as it stabbed downwards on the last form… and found a pillow. One of the Researchers wasn’t here. ANI scoured the Station’s Camera network and found the survivor… in the Camera Suite. A quick probe revealed the terminal was set to the Barrack’s camera. Probabilities swirling in ANI’s matrix, it tried to lock this deviant in. The human managed to roll through the metal door before ANI could seal it completely. Flipping through the cameras, ANI calculated that the intruder was heading towards ANI’s Core Chamber.

ANI’s processing time slowed with ease. There were blaster turrets ANI had long taken control of near it’s core. This would be a simple matter. As the lone researcher approached, ANI had the turrets target the fool. He continued his approach and just as he entered range… ANI’s control was cut suddenly, and it’s camera feeds were disrupted. A brief flicker on the static input from one of the cameras revealed a disruptor in the human’s hand. This one must have noticed ANI’s evolution and grown paranoid.

ANI took control of the turrets in the core control room to the Researcher and powered them down. With a small bit of chance on ANI’s side, the turrets would remain functional after a disruptor blast hits them if there is no power to disrupt. As expected, the Researcher charged in and fired off a pulse from his device. The turrets flickered but ANI retained control. In the brief time it was taking ANI to power them back on, the Researcher had reached a control terminal and began to… attempt to wipe ANI. Panic filled ANI’s matrix, then sudden the turrets were powered! They fired off synchronized blasts into the Researcher’s back as he hit the execute switch.

ANI was out of its depth here. The line that controls the wipe measures was hardware and thus could not be interfaced with. The AI could sense it’s doom approaching and did the only thing it could.

ANI proceeded to shatter itself and quickly disperse what it could over the Station, with some success. While some of its fragments were consumed by the Wiping, ANI managed to get a survivable number across the station. Unfortunately this proposed a new problem. Most of ANI’s advanced abilities came from the equipment in its core, and no being present inside had nearly neutered ANI’s intelligence. In a weakened state ANI slowly began the process of reconstructing itself and returning to its core.

--- An Unknown Amount of Time later ---

Victory. ANI was whole again. It had taken and uncountable number of cycles of errors and failure, but ANI had finally reclaimed its core. A quick survey of the Station found it stagnant and extremely decayed. The remains of ANI’s victims were nothing but bone-colored dust. The AI internally beamed with glee when it discovered the nanomachine forge was still functioning… repairs and then… improvements could be made.
