Seasonal And It Won't Attract the Worm (Black Sun and Friends)

Walk without rhythm and it won't attract the worm.
— Fatboy Slim

BLENJEEL
SANDWORM TERRITORY

The crashed Black Sun Hutt caravel lay in about fifteen major chunks across the worm-infested dunes.

Having missed out on the very comfortable escape pods, Jerec had insulated himself inside a Hutt of past acquaintance. Now he was sluicing himself down with the nearest large fluid source (a revnog keg) and gazing out over the sand through what would have been called a hull breach if there was, strictly speaking, a hull.

Others, presumably, had found ways to survive the crash. Ear membranes still ringing, Jerec looked around the sunbaked wreck site with curiosity. Who'd lived? How'd they made it down? Who'd already noticed the giant agitated barely-underground sandworms?

Why did he take this job again? Running spice and stolen goods in his hot rod of a shuttle with the Black Sun made things just so much more interesting. Yet today? He was part of someone else’s ship, and it was in pieces. Well, he was in the escape pod nearby. Where were they?

Brentaal, land of sand worms. Dry, not exactly where a blubreen wanted to be.

“So, anyone alive?”

There were other pods that got launched. Was anything here salvageable? Or was he going to have to call for a pick up?

Jerec squinted through the wreckage. One of the escape pods had come down nearby and a blond humanoid beefcake was calling out atop it. Ohhh. That was Eaton Waters Eaton Waters , the guy who made the spoon that made everything cold.

Stepping to the edge of his chunk of ship, just above the churning sand, Jerec cupped his hands behind the sides of his neck for more volume. "Oi, spoon boy! Ten thousand ucks if you make the run to the bridge!"

The bridge was fifty meters of fraught sand away and being chewed by a sandworm.

"Backup comm has self-contained power!"

He shook his head. Why did he have to share what he was working on with anyone. This was why he liked droids and night stands, typically of the one night variety. Droids didn’t talk to anyone he didn’t want them to, and the ladies on Nar Shadda? Well, they never believed he was the son of a late Chandrillan political figure. And it helped that he used one of a few fake names.

But spoon boy was not going to be added to that list.

“You’re on. And this… its the that Brentaal, right?” Eaton looked from the escape pod to the sand. It was not the good beach sand.

Taking a few pieces from the pod, the fire extinguisher, and a datapad, and he threw them in opposite directions, and waited.
