And eye for an eye, a hand for a hand

She closed her eyes, breathing steady and calm for the first time in many hours. It felt good to be able to breathe easy for a moment. Just relax. Maybe when she awoke, she would have her hand. Wishful thinking. Stupid of her. But a girl could wish.

And finally get a little sleep without being awoken by the pain.

Lorane finally managed to relax from the sympathetic ache that had appeared as he'd been watching Zandra try to sleep off the pain. He got back to attaching the fingers to the prosthetic hand he was holding. It felt a little bit weird, doing this whole synthetic replacements bit. Creating tech that could blow up in his own face was fine. Creating tech that could blow up in a different person's face was another thing entirely.

This time, Zandras dreams were less horrible. It took some time, but she finally found herself dreaming about something pleasant. She was back on Mandalore, the snow was up to the windows now and her daughters latest kill was roasting over the fire. Her son was huddled under furs, reading, while Calico bounced a baby on his lap. Who's baby? Zandra thought it was hers. It was a dream, after all. Dreams were not always sensible.

When she finally awoke, the sun was up already. Cal, Rawnie, Corrin and the baby, vanished and she was alone again.

Lorane came back into the room, put down a small pile of waffles on the side-table next to the bed Zandra was in, and sat back down in front of what little detached bits of the prosthetic hand still needed to be put on. The pirate woman had been talking in her sleep a bit, probably about whoever it was she'd "seen" while she'd been spiced. The Chiss gave Zandra a sidelong glance as he ate his own breakfast.
"If it's not rude to ask... Are those people you were muttering about in your sleep... the same people you saw when you were spiced last night? Oh, uh... also, good morning. Waffles. Forget I asked if you don't wanna talk 'bout it."

...And here was the doc again. Zandra blinked, attempted to rise, but, forgetting she had no hand on her left arm, only succeeded in looking foolish.

"My family," she answered, unashamed, "My kids, Rawnie and Corrin. And... Calico."

She looked up at the ceiling. In pain as she was, she was starving. No dinner last night for her, losing her hand and all.

"I don' mind talkin' 'bout 'em."

Lorane looked up from his work again, a little bit confused. She sounded different now. Well, besides the fact that she wasn't spiced.
"So, then... talk. I recognize your name and... Calico-something... Mando guy."
He shrugged as he ate one of his waffles. Hearing about her kids could be nice, too.

The Echani let her head hit the pillow again with a sigh. Her kids... what was there to say there anyway? And Cal... Cal was gone? But she was feeling a bit chatty, now that the pain had eased some.

"Corrin in the boy, Rawnie is the girl," she explained, "Good kids. Corrin is sweet. Very... gentle. Rawnie is a bit more like me, though, I think."

She laughed lightly at the memory of those kids. Rawnie had... a bit of a knack for tracking. Corrin was one hellofa shot.

"Then there's my husband. Cal. He's... been gone a while now. Won' be back, I hear. Disappeared during that... 'rapture' thing."
