SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Mildly Thermal Absorbent (Cold to the Touch)
  • Resistant to Very High Pressures (Atmospheric Pressure and Gravitational Strain) (Composite Only)
Strengths:
  • Dense metal that is resistant to heat and pressures
  • Highly thermal resistant, this metal is good at dispersing heat throughout its mass
  • Shares the same "shock dispersing" properties as Phrik, making this metal very resistant to electrical charges and buildup.
  • Resistant to corrosion from acids
  • Highly resistant to oxidization (rust)
Weaknesses:
  • Requires highly controlled conditions to manufacture
  • Minor flaws in material percentages or forging process ruins the material
  • High melting point makes the material hard to manufacture and very hard to repair
  • High melting point and density
  • Heavy Weight
DESCRIPTION

One of the few things of quality to come out of the Outer Rim, Ancoran Steel is a high quality Durasteel alternative that comes from the Durara Science and Technology Center on Ancora. Based heavily upon the recipe for forging Durasteel, Ancoran Steel is only one of countless variations attempted by Ancoran scientists over the last several years to produce a quality metal that can be constructed solely from materials obtainable in their local quadrant of the galaxy. Replacing several of the harder to obtain materials with local analogs and replacing some of the more common materials with local, quality alternatives (such as Tydirium, Chanlon, and Ostrine), Ancoran Steel manages to rise well above the standards set for Military Grade Durasteel.

In spite of the reputation Ancoran Steel is quickly earning for itself as being highly durable and incredibly resistant to environmental hazards, Ancoran Steel is also earning a reputation for being incredibly hard to work with. As a high density material with particularly good thermal dispersion properties, Ancoran Steel is very difficult to cut, shape, or weld after its initial forging. This makes it particularly troublesome when attempting to perform repairs on damaged sections of Ancoran Steel and leaves most manufactures inclined to utilize the expensive molecular welding process when working with the material, just to cut down on the time and mechanical ware their tools and employees will undergo using traditional welding or riveting techniques.

Additionally, Ancoran Steel is a very demanding metal to smelt and requires absolute precision in its creation. The metal must be forged at three radically different temperatures throughout the initial smelting and forging process, additives must be worked in at very precise moments and in very precise quantities, and even the slightest error at any point will result in a complete failure that must be scrapped. The only exception to this, would be the inclusion of a particular micro-crystal additive that is sometimes diffused into a smelt. When done, and performed correctly, the end product is known as Ancoran Crystasteel and is significantly more resilient to thermal and pressure extremes than the standard material. It is also significantly more expensive to purchase and strictly controlled by the Ancoran Government to keep the price-per-ton as high as possible while still keeping potential buyers interested in its value.
