An Introduction

Years away from the constant conflict of the galaxy had been good for Kara. Kirima was a minor planet without much power on the galactic scale, but it was home. Shamd City was serine without the sense of being cloistered, as she’d had sometimes felt on Roon. The palace was as beautiful, and there were always people moving in and out. Its art gallery was unique: mother preferred local artists over the more popular imports.

It had been hard to leave the Templars, or the Obsidian Guard as it was now called, but it had been the right call. The order and the Union it protected had moved away from the ideals that Kara had once thought it held dear. Their alliance with the One Sith government was troubling. Now that the Union had recovered from its internal crisis and was once again expanding, she worried about their proximity to Kirima.

Her planet had always produced technology, but the business owners did not have nearly as much power as those in the Techno Union. The standard of living and rights of workers had always been favored over profit. Their natural resources and access to a major trade route had always been enough to keep the factories from leaving.

Her return however, had meant taking up her royal duties again. Kara had spent the last seven years fighting most of her battles with words rather than a lightsaber. Which wasn’t to say that she didn’t still have the lightsaber handy. Today she was supposed to greet a representative from Arakyd Industries, who was looking to set up facilities on the planet.

The princess personally hoped things went badly for him. The thought of a company from the Techno Union setting down roots here was not a comfortable one. Still, it would be a breech in protocol for her to be anything less than exceedingly polite to an official guest. If Kara had learned nothing else in recent years, it was how to hide disdain behind a mask of civility.
