Private An Interview with a Nabooian

✦ FIELD REPORT ✦

Naboo. Kres had heard about the planet plenty of times in her travels, yet she had never came to visit herself. The concept of the Nobility disgusted her to an extent. Secrets that were kept behind closed doors. It was against Kres' nature to keep secrets from people. If people needed to know something, they needed to know it. You don't lock it behind some fancy door that the average person would never see. Lock it behind some expensive painting, in a dark corner where it would hopefully be forgotten. Which is why the idea of interviewing one of the major players of Naboo's politics had been...an interesting idea for her.

And so she strode through the streets of Theed, adjusting her hat for a moment. There were a few interview questions she had already prepared, but she was also going to need to work at taking her notes. There was already plenty she'd ask about in her mind. Questioning about how the running for the Monarch of Naboo was going. The attempted assassination ordered by the former Patriarch of House Veruna, alongside the arrest of the man. She had heard from a few little birds that there had been quite a few people gathered in the Hall when that had happened. Though if she wanted to go further down that rabbithole, it would have been better for her to search down the current Patriarch. One...What was his name again? Aurelio? Aurelian? Aurealias? One of those.

Either way that wasn't important. She wandered over towards the building the interview was meant to be taking place in. Strolling on in without another thought as she prepared to take out her recording equipment, checking over what she had before taking a seat and waiting. Kres also checked her boot for a moment, making sure her self-protection vibroblade was there, before checking her hip to make sure that her slugthrower was also concealed. Of course, the concealment didn't mean much. As soon as Dominic arrived, she'd inform him that she was carrying weapons to protect herself. Perhaps he'd come with some form of security who'd demand her to hand over the weapons. Who knows?

The press were a sword. Two-edged. A weapon that could accomplish much, but cut the one wielding it just as easily as their foe.

Dominic was seated. Looking out over the esplanade along the river bank in Theed. He had just put down his datapad after reviewing the latest polling numbers. They were not good. The Senate race was going poorly. Something needed to change.

"She is here."

His aide, Lysa, tapped him on the shoulder. Somewhere, not far away was his companion and bodyguard, Xandyr Carrick Xandyr Carrick . He was watching.

Dominic stood, smoothed his tightly cinched coat, and turned toward the reporter. "Welcome to Naboo. It is such a pleasure to meet you..."

His hand was already out, to greet his would be tormentor.

"Kres Garjzla. Miss Garjzla is what I'd prefer."

Kres gave a short curt nod at that, before reaching out a gloved hand to give Dominic a handshake before she turned her attention back over towards herself, pulling out a recording device that she'd then place down at the chair making sure everything was ready.

"I will state for the record, that for my own safety, I have concealed weapons on my person. I am sure you can understand the necessity of my paranoia."

She was no assassin. No. Assassins preferred to hide in the dark to destroy people. Kres preferred to stay in the light, and if her reports just so happened to bring people crashing down to the ground? Well. She wouldn't cry any tears over it.

"Can you please state for the record your name? Then I can get into the real questions."

Eyebrows were raised. "Well then...Miss Garjzia...you have certainly garnered the attention of my bodyguard with an introduction such as that."

He directed her to sit. "You have no enemies here. Not on Naboo."

"Dominic Praxon. House Trozky,"
he took a seat opposite her suggested place to sit. Though there was another perpendicular to his chair, should she had wished a diffrent angle for the story.

"Senatorial candidate for Naboo. Currently sitting at...13% in the polls. I am honoured that you care enough to talk to me."

"The Truth has many enemies. You may I say have no enemies on Naboo, but as you know yourself, there are always likely to be those in league with more criminal elements."

It was a shame really. Kres understood that her words could put herself in the line of sight of the more nefarious criminal syndicates but she didn't hold anything against them. Well, she held it against them that they were criminals but she'd report on them as fairly as she'd report anyone else. Either way, she crossed one leg over the other and began to write some notes, even ontop of her recording.

"You might be sitting at 13% in the polls, but that is not what I'm here for. I'm here for the Truth. Plain and simple. Boring? Perhaps."

Alright. She flipped over her notepad, letting her eyes settle on the first question she had written down.

"As you've informed me, you are sitting at 13% in the poll, a simple 1% drop from when your surge. What do you think the possible reasoning for this could be? You've already proven yourself as someone who is looking out for Naboo's best interests, considering what happened during the Assembly. Though perhaps there are some that think it was a power grab."

Kres continued to keep her own tone of voice neutral. She wasn't going to betray her own opinions on the matter. That was for off the record. On the record, she had to be as neutral as she could possibly be. Even if she was personally impressed about putting your reputation on the line like that. It took a lot of bravery to call out your boss in front of a large gathering.

Dominic leaned back in his chair and smiled, offering a small laugh at the question. "I know I should be happy with my progress in the polls, but you see Miss Garjyzia. But I believe this to be among the most critical times in our fledgling Republic. I believe the people of Naboo are starting to hear what I have been saying. As for the one percent drop, it is merely a fluctuation in the polling data. My mind works in increments of tens...so 20% is my next goal. Fluctuations here do not bother me."

He leaned forward in his seat, face growing more serious. With his hands coming together, to signify his shift in tone.

"The real power grab is when you send Intelligence officers into an active Assembly meeting and arrest a sitting Senator," Dominic said, "I have not forgotten, and neither has Naboo. Calia Vonn may well have been the criminal that she is accused of being, but that does not mean we skip due process and create a police state where our representatives can be dragged out of Assembly by uniformed thugs who think they are above the law."

His hands opened, palms facing out as if to stop her from chiming in. He would talk over her if needs be.

"But the real insidious corruption is the small things. Did you notice the anti-Jedi dog whistle in the latest issue of our Herald? Bastila Sal-Soren has already met the legal requirement to run — she has stepped back from her duties as a Jedi. And the term Jedi is used as a slur to defame her. I think we forget that in the game of anti-Jedi rhetoric the first victims of the late Baros Sal-Soren were his own children. And here is our main news outlet using Jedi as a slur. Naboo's proud, Force-heritage is not something to be mutilated for the sake of cheap politics."

"Oh no. You have every right to be disappointed with your progress if you were. I do not fault anyone for feeling the way they do. It is a free Galaxy in a way."

Of course that was a simplification of a much bigger problem. A problem that Kres wasn't going to get into as she continued to listen. Yet a small frown came across her face at Dominic's insistence to talk, not giving her a moment to speak until he had finished with his own speech. An eyebrow raised at the topic of the Sal-Soren. How...intriguing. Now this could be taking a few ways in Kres's mind. She could further enforce Dominic's words but that would be more like a propaganda piece. Hm...

"Is there anything wrong with the people being afraid of Force Sensitives? Especially trained Force Sensitives? Yes, Miss Sal-Soren may have stepped back as a Jedi, but that doesn't remove the potential of her being a threat. What of those who are not Force-sensitive? Those who have experienced suffering and loss at the hands of them? It is fine and well that Miss Sal-Soren has stepped down, but is that all she should have to do to win the trust of the people? What if a Sith were to come here and say they have stepped down?"

There was always two sides to every story in Kres' opinion as she carried on writing her notes, still keeping her voice neutral. She wouldn't let anyone accuse her of letting her emotions get the better of her. She could perfectly understand the distrust of Jedi. It's why she had gotten training to protect her mind, lest she be vulnerable to their mental trickery.

"Of course, I can see your point. Though I believe most shouldn't take a gossip column seriously. Their role isn't to bring up the truth, but more to get people talking. Exactly like this."

Dominic leaned back in his chair. His eyes narrowed. And he steepled his hands.

"The office of Monarch of Naboo is a bastion of hope and security in our Republic. It is not one that people have lightly held nor obtained. There are rigorous requirements for running and obtaining the office. One of which is that no active Jedi can run for the office monarch. Bastila Sal-Soren would have fit this requirement," he said calmly, eyes like lasers focusing in on the slimy reporter, "comparing a former Jedi running to a Sith waltzing into the position is ludicrous in the extreme. And the way you are framing Nabooian attitudes towards the Jedi is as off base as it could possibly be."

His jaw clenched.

"What is your agenda?"

"Comparing a "former" Jedi to a "former" Sith. It is interesting that you are bringing up the Nabooian's attitude towards Jedi, when I was just mentioning Force Sensitives. Though if the shoe fits..."

Kres sighed to herself as she carried on scribbling down her notes, shaking her head regretfully. This was why the politics field was never for her. They were far too emotional. Blinded by their personal connections in her eyes to see the truth of things. They tried to make correlations that weren't there.

"If I was truly off base with the Nabooian attitude, then you wouldn't be having this issue in the first place. Unless you are implying that those who write the Herald aren't true Nabooians?"

She had to hold in laughter at being accused of having an agenda. For her, it was the same level of ridiculousness that Dominic thought there was in her comparing a Former Jedi to a Former Sith. Of course, it all made sense to her though if she thought about it. If she focused on the rumours that she had heard, even as much as she didn't like to give much credit to them.

"I don't have an agenda. I simply try to remind people that there are at least two sides to every point. You have a clear bias for the Jedi, perhaps owing to your supposed relationship you had with Miss Sal-Soren. Because of your personal connections, you fail to see the manner in which some people might react to a "former" Jedi running for such an important role."
