The first starship class that has seen mass Republic use that has been purchased outside Republic-owned shipbuilding companies, the Ambassador-class corvette is a design based off CEC's Nexu-class corvette, which is an upgrade of the CR90. Needless to say, the Ambassador has quite the pedigree, and it shows. While the Omega Protectorate makes use of their own variant of this vessel, this particular ship is designed specifically for - as the name implies - ambassadors. This is a diplomatic vessel through and through, and every Senator of the Galactic Republic is given one of these ships for their personal use.
While not a warship, this is a fast enough vessel-- especially in hyperspace, touting a military-grade hyperdrive-- that a Senator is able to use it to get around wherever they need to in a hurry, as well as bring their personal retinue and guards. In this way, it gives the Republic more diplomatic flexibility and a way to keep the Senators in touch with the rest of the Galaxy with full communications available to them at all times.
