LOCATION INFORMATION
  • Capital City: Eshan (Originally just named 'the city' it is still referred to by locals as 'the capital city' and its official name is rarely used)
  • Planetary Features: Primarily Interconnected cities, Subterranean factories, House Palaces, Imperial Palace
  • Major Locations:
    Alula
Alula is the technological, economic, political and military heart of the system. It is both a fortress and a modern world with a population in the billions. Massive cities house the working population, criscrossing entire continents. These cities are made up of layer upon layer of manufacturing, residential, commercial and administrative districts, all fortified at the surface level to a high military standard. The capital palace rises from a high mountain range, terraformed into a colossal fortress high above, with the palace district around it is the size of a small nation-state.

    Nadir
Green from pole to pole, Nadir's focus on agricultural and biological advancements have led to a world that produces the food for the rest of the system and now much more besides. Massive farms are fed by the gene labs and research facilities that create the crops and herd animals that are farmed here. Incredibly efficient farming processes drive the wealth generation of the two slightly cooperative but still ultimately rival local major houses.

    Zenith
A rocky and flat planet, blackened and heavily polluted, Zenith is an industrial forge that produces engineering marvels, and the very latest in military technologies, most especially weaponry. Three local major houses share this planet in constant competition with one another for resources and territory. Fed by its mines and factories, Zenith's economy is a powerful force in the system.
POPULATION
  • Native Species: None
  • Immigrated Species: Echani
  • Population: Moderate
  • Demographics: Echani, open to offworlders
  • Primary Languages: Galactic Basic
  • Culture: Industrious.
The Echani who were stranded originally had to build a colony from the remnants of their few surviving ships. They learned to innovate, to be efficient, and to help each other in need. The people work hard, work smart, and ensure that no one is left behind. They look out for each other, and they push each other hard to do their very best.

The society is hierarchical, with both military and noble rank structures that are rigid and widely respected. Noble rank takes precedence, in that one with a noble rank may speak to even a superior military officer as an equal.
GOVERNMENT & ECONOMY
  • Government: Monarchy (Permanent Regency Council)
  • Affiliation: New Star League (System Government)
  • Wealth: Wealthy
Large agricultural and technological efforts combined with heavy industry, does very well in galactic trade. Wages are high and conditions are good which brings ready workers and provides steady employment and prosperity to even the lowest classes
  • Stability: High
Law and order is maintained through traditional respect for the ruling houses, who also control the economy and personal military forces. The houses are limited and power resides with the ruling council, made up of a representative from each major house, plus a candidate from among the minor houses. A rotating chair provides equal representation among the seven seats on the council. Citizens are well treated and have little reason to oppose the absolute power of the nobility.
  • Freedom & Oppression:
Citizens are afforded strong rights and protections, social assistance from the government, and crime is rare, though harshly punished. The nobility, however, are a protected class, no ordinary citizen's right will supersede a noble's wishes. The Council rules with absolute power, as does each House within its own territory, though subject to the Council. Local laws are superseded by House laws, and House laws can be superseded by the Imperial authority which is now invested in the Council.
MILITARY & TECHNOLOGY
  • Military: Alula is well protected, a fortress world which retains both its own planetary defences, the New Star League military itself, as well as the imperial palace and other house strongholds, each a great bastion.
  • Technology: Galactic Standard
HISTORICAL INFORMATION

867 ABY

An experimental hyperspace jumpship carrying the royal fleet of the New Star League malfunctions, throwing the fleet across time and space to an uncharted system. The fleet emerges with the jumpship detonating and wiping out most of the fleet in a single cataclysm. The Empress and the heads of the royal houses are all killed, as well as the upper echelons of the New Star League military. Millions die. A Fleet Captain called Argen Talen takes command of the ragged flotilla as the ranking military survivor.

What remains of the fleet, support vessels and small escorts, make their way to the nearby star system where they settle on an uninhabited habitable world. Little to none of the imperial royal forces, or those of the major houses remain, as these were located closer to the jump malfunction than the lesser military, escort, and supply ships. This changes the balance of power as most if not all of the surviving fleet and army assets are sworn neutral and to the New Star League rather than to Houses.

The world is named Alula after the fallen Empress, and the remnants of the force settle in to rebuild and regroup. Dia Sameron is crowned Empress of the New Star League though in reality she is mostly a figurehead for the military on a small backwater colony unprepared for its mission. House Sameron takes its seat on Alula while other houses are founded by military leaders. The old major houses survive though very much diminished in influence.

The accident is studied, and it is determined that it is impossible to replicate and that they are permanently cut off from home. The system has a small fast moving singularity orbiting the star, and it is believed interference from the black hole contributed to the jump ship's catastrophic failure. This interference with navigation will isolate the society of the system for the next thirteen years and lead to the development of a unique culture.

870 ABY

Under military supervision, resources and manpower are distributed among the major houses and the Alula system is geared for permament settlement. NSL Holdings is created from the first major telecommunications companies who merge to create a system-wide monopoly, which is part-owned by all the major and minor houses, creating the basis for an economy. The surviving military forces come to be owned and operated by NSL Holdings, maintaining neutrality and general peaceful expansion. The two other habitable worlds orbiting Alula's star are colonized, named Zenith and Nadir, settled by the major houses.

Tension between the Major Houses leads to a race and competition after NSLH backed by the imperial throne refuses any recognition of colonial claims not backed up by permanent relocation. The major houses call the company's bluff and relocate their capitals to the colony worlds, leaving only what amounts to embassies on the homeworld. The colony worlds of Nadir and Zenith grow at a rapid pace thanks to the influx of people and wealth from Alula.

877 ABY

Empress Dia, daughter of the lost Empress Alula and ruler for ten years, dies. Her son Marin is only 4, so her uncle, Karim, becomes Regent, with the blessing of the great houses. Peace is maintained largely because what few weapons remain are under the direct control of NSLH. The great houses while able to remain wealthy and influential, lack the military might to cause trouble, against the very few but supremely powerful remnant New Star League weapons.

880 ABY

First contact with the outside galaxy, with space pirates intent on plundering a helpless native population. Lured into the system by scouts, the pirates are quickly overwhelmed by the remnant of the fleet. Most of the surviving New Star League armaments are expended in this conflict, but the technological and cultural bounty of the captured ships and their crews far outweighs the loss. Regent Karim and NSLH ensures that the benefits are shared equally among the Houses.

Information on the wider galaxy and the events of the past thirteen years spreads among the population. NSLH creates the first HoloNET relays, connecting Alula to the galaxy. More advanced communications, hyperdrive, shield and weapon technologies spread across the system, further boosting the economy, and NSLH control. There is a massive expansion in industrial activity, fueled by access to galactic resources.

Minor Houses founded by surviving military leaders, such as Talen, Raak, Sisku and Usisi grow on Alula, though not a match for the industrial and financial might of the older houses. Alula grows to be a stronghold for House Talen, and the minor houses though all the major houses maintain small holdings.

882 ABY

The NSLH treaty is signed, creating a shared corporation to manage and administrate the remnants of the lost New Star League. The treaty also sets limits on the military forces a House can possess, from warships down to the number of active and reserve personnel. Economic prosperity grows with trade between the three worlds. Peace is maintained through balance, and the relative power of the imperial family.

By this stage over a decade after colonization, Nadir has been developed into an agricultural paradise, while Zenith has become a dark and foreboding industrial conglomeration. Alula comes to be an administrative capital and fortress. Major conflicts between the houses cease. There are minor conflicts between the houses, but these are generally restricted to land border disputes, limited scale conflicts on individual worlds. Further prosperity ensues.

890 ABY

A succession crisis develops when the sole surviving imperial heir Marin is killed in an accident that mortally wounds his elderly Regent Karim. A siege of Alula develops as tensions rise between the major houses with no successor on the throne and no suitable candidates as House Sameron is exhausted. NSLH temporarily suspends Holonet and local communications access to all the feuding parties. Imperial forces under military supervision face off against the combined but shaky alliance of Great Houses.

The crisis is resolved after a year by the second NSLH treaty, formalizing the replacement of the imperial throne with a permanent ruling council. House Talen is raised to a major house, taking a seat alongside the older houses, while the lesser houses are awarded a single shared seat. A rotating chair moves between the seven representatives. Having come so close to the brink of war, future disputes are allowed to be settled by the council and peace and unity is more or less achieved within the system. The Council of Seven now takes the place of the sovereign. House rivalries still exist, and take the form of economic and technological competition. This leads to Alulan technology becoming a standout among the galaxy.

900 ABY

There is a significant exodus of military personnel which become known as the New Star League Remnants, though they retain no ties to the NSL government of Alula.
