Their first mission was a simple one. On board The Vindicator in one of the hangers, a special project has been in the works for months. An exact replica of The Free Lady had been constructed. The details on the outside would make anyone mix the decoy from the real thing. It was how it looked on the inside that made it differ from the ship that it was modelled after. Catching only glimpses of the interior that was available on the holonet, Bates had his engineers design it as best as they could. He was glad for their efforts. It was the exterior that was far more important for what he needed the decoy to accomplish anyways. Each worker were provided with bonuses and vacation time of which they readily accepted.

The Vindicator still hovered in orbit outside of Altier, though Bates' attention wasn't on the planet, but on the region of space to the north of it. That was CSA territory, and therein lay his real prey. But for now he was going to make due with what he could, each part of his plan strategically placed in an order that only he knew.

Bates called upon his recent hires to join him in the hanger where his decoy vessel was. He held a datapad in hand while he inspected the ship one more time while he waited for them to arrive. If neither of them did, well he'd just handle it on his own. If there was one thing that he learned in his lifetime it was that loyalty, even paid loyaly, was never guaranteed.

It had been a few day since he was hired by [member="Bastin Arenais"], most of the time was spent going over the chain of command and rules, but also doing a bit of extra training for the upcoming assignment, which would be happening today. Looking at his data pad a new message from Arenais had come though it was time to put his skills to proper use, Tanasuki suited up, putting on his nexus armor and attaching all the necessary equipment and weapons, ready for what ever was thrown his way.

Coming into the hanger he easily spotted said employer and little miss run away senator, [member="Thalia Kaia"] was simple standing there while Arenais went over some things on his own data pad. "You call me boss", a simple cheery and slightly flirtatious greeting, just seeing how said employer reacted, he always enjoyed confusing men.

Things made sense in space. Out here, in the open, Cassius could think. While the Masters at Deneba might have him sit on a high mountain or next to a stream to meditate, Cassius felt he could do a lot of contemplating up here as well. Those places were calming, and beautiful, yes, but for Cassius, it was all about what wasn’t there. With nothing else around him, he had to look inward, reflect.

Right now, however, he was on a simple patrol run. He’d volunteered to do more of them for the CSA recently after the attack on the Praxeum. For one, he wanted to make sure he could intercept any enemy ships making their way towards Commenor, and also… he just needed to be alone for a while.

A short hyperspace jump brought him into the Surron system, which was right on the southern border of CSA space. Like he always did, Cassius put the advanced sensor package of his A-wing to work, scanning the area for any sort of hostile vessels, strange anomalies, or distress signals. This was fairly standard protocol for a patrol run – usually, he was with other pilots, but he didn’t mind behind alone every now and then. Besides, the A-wing’s speed coupled with his own Force-imbued reflexes allowed him to escape from a lot of situations, should the need arise.

Bates lowered his datapad once [member="Thalia Kaia"] arrived. He walked over to the ramp of the decoy. Up near the top was a folded pile of clothing. Tucking his datapad in his arm, he grabbed the clothing and held it out to her. "Put this on. It's just a cloak and skirt, but it'll do the job. You'll be the second half of the bait."

Looking to his right, he watched [member="Tanaski Yumi"] approach, for all appearances, portraying a girl. A girl that was flirting with him. He kept his expression stern as always, not letting anything betray his thoughts. "Yes I did. We're going hunting. So I'll need you inside this ship. Find a good spot inside and hunker down. It'll be a wild ride, but it'll be worth it."

He glanced about the hanger, mildly disappointed that [member="Teroch Werda"] hadn't shown up yet. There must be some good reason. Perhaps it was as simple of a reason as the fact that he hadn't checked his messages. Regardless, Bates wasn't about to delay his schedule for just one man.

He turned his attention back to the other two. "Reports have come in about Commenori scouts wandering just north of this sector. It's far enough away from the Capital to give us little cause for concern. With this decoy, we are going to trick them into believing that their Queen is in distress. I'll be almost crash landing it onto Altier. No doubt the scouts will follow. Once on the ground, we'll draw the scouts into an ambush and take him captive. I only need one alive. The others are fair game. Understood?"

[member="Cassius Droma"]

He was a bit disappointed with the way [member="Bastin Arenais"] acted but understood, today was a mission time to act serious, for this he would need to change up personas. "Staying silent, waiting for he right time, then attacking, that is my area of experience". If they were going up against a Jedi, thing would be even more interesting, due to his specific fighting style and weapons that counteracted the Force and light-sabers. It was strange that the Mando didn't show up, perhaps he was not on for snatch and grab, but then again that meant more money for him.

"Under stood boss, though what are the chances that they will not fall for it, have to take into account that they might suspect it to be a trap...... hehe trap". Still he did raise a far point, if said scouts were properly informed there was a chance they'd find it strange, and the last thing they needed was an commoner fleet on their ass.

Stepped in to the hangar, laying eyes on the others gathered there. It had taken him a while to find his way through the corridors of the cruiser causing him to arrive shy of the others. In the end it did not matter though. He was here now, and would do whatever needed to fulfill his obligations. Catching the end of Bates' little spiel, Teroch gave his head a slight shake. Hunkering down and waiting had never been strong suits of his. In fact Teroch could not in recent memory recall a time he had ever done those things, during an operation that is. Still, he would not argue. Turning to face Bates, his voice poured through his helmet overlain with static.

"Sounds like a good enough plan." The Mandalorian nodded in agreement with Bates. "I'll leave taking the prisoner to someone else. Rather focus on the battle." Then he said no more. First mission out with this crew was already shaping up rather nicely. This was the sort of fight Teroch had been looking for. He just hoped the others around him good hold up their part.

Thalia would take the clothing and quickly change, she had no issue with being bait she would quickly change also tucking all of her weapons away. Over the years she had grown very good at finding interesting places to stash weapons in this sort of wear. Once she was changed she would look back to her boss, luckily she had shoes that were comfort but also looked right with this sort of wear. She would listen to the plan and nod

"This is a very good plan I am glad to assist in anyway possible"

The question that [member="Tanaski Yumi"] raised was a good one. But it was one that he had already taken into account. "I had taken the liberty of acquiring a copy of the ID chip for this ship. Don't ask me how. But it'll all happen so fast that the very idea of it being a trap more than likely won't cross their minds until it's too late."

Bates caught [member="Teroch Werda"] shake his head in what almost seemed to be disapproval. He kept his expression neutral, even when the Mandalorian seemed to change his view on the mission, although inwardly, Bates smiled. He nodded his head. "Good. It's been a while since I've seen a Mandalorian in action. I'm looking forward to seeing what you can do."

[member="Thalia Kaia"] was dressed by then. Good. She was quick and looked the part well enough. Bates nodded to her "You'll be in the cockpit with me. Once we're out there, put the hood up so that they only see part of your face." He turned his attention to the other two. "If you both have what you need, let's get this started. Everyone inside."

Bates didn't wait for them to acknowledge his order. He just walked up the ramp into the decoy vessel and headed into the cockpit. Once there he took to the pilot's seat and buckled himself in before going through the pre-flight checks and hitting the ignition switch, bringing the freighter's engine's to life. The adrenalin started to kick in. Bates had been anticipating this moment for months. Now he was ready to begin phase one of his plan.

[member="Cassius Droma"]

Thalia would listen to the orders given by Bates, she was used to this sort of treachery. As soon as the order had been given and Bates made for the decoy she would follow, slowing her respiration rate trying to get the pre-mission jitters to go away. She would take her seat in the co-pilots seat and pull the hood of the cloak up over her head, hiding most of her face.

For once the young assassin gave a straight face to his employer, no quips or rude jokes, "I do no need to know the details, that make the job a lot more easier for me". While [member="Bastin Arenais"] he addressed [member="Teroch Werda"], "I will take care of prisoner capture, you do what ever you want". "I am also interested in how you fight, call it a hobby but it seems to be a common occurrence to get into scuffles with Mandos, and knowing how they fight could prove to be a valuable experience".

He gave the mando a chance to respond, but went about making sure all the equipment on his Nexus Armor was secure, before following [member="Thalia Kaia"] into the replica ship. Making sure to mask his force signature, just in case said scout was a force user, one could never be to careful. "In place and awaiting target, over and out".

Teroch slung his riffle and made his way towards the decoy vessel. A curt nod would fall towards Tanaski as he inquired as to the nature of the Mandalorian's combat ability. Something to which Teroch replied to with a soft grunt from within his helmet. Bates seemed to be of a similar mind, which was no big surprise. When someone works for you it is only natural to want to gauge their skill. Most people in their line of work had more than likely bore witness to Mandalorians plying their trade, but being able to assess so closely would no doubt be a treat for the newly minted captain and chosen allies.

That aside, Teroch began to ponder where this would lead them. Getting involved like this with the CSA was likely to lead towards ill tidings. "Alor'ad, this business with the Alliance." The Mandalorian finally asked, letting his curiosity get the better of him. "Is it professional or personal?" Teroch had ridden along on enough vendettas to know how they tended to turn out for those whom took part. There was no backing out now though, the contracts had been signed after all, but knowing would surely ease undue tension.

Bates stole a glance [member="Thalia Kaia"] 's way as she sat down. With the hood up, she looked well enough the part. It wasn't as though the scouts would be able to tell the difference with the quick looks that they'd make. Just enough to know that a particular woman was in there was good enough for his plan to work. He cracked his knuckles as he was very much eager to get this flight on it's way, although his expression never betrayed that. The stern look hardly disappeared, or perhaps it looked as though he was always well focused. The trick was to be hard to read and that's exactly what he was going for.

[member="Tanaski Yumi"] seemed just as eager to watch [member="Teroch Werda"] in action as he was. Although Bates had his own reasons for it and that was all business. Some can boast about their skills all that they want, yet it's seeing them in action that'll really tell if there's truth to what they say. Actions speak louder than words, or so the story goes. There was no doubt in Bates' mind that each individual there was also thinking of the very same thing about him.

Teroch had asked him a very notable question. Bates looked over his shoulder to the man. "I'm not risking an all out war with them, if that's what you're thinking. That'd be suicide and not very satisfying. But this is professional. You're not throwing your lives away for some personal vendetta. The only life at risk for that would be mine if that time comes. After this mission is complete, you'll get a better idea of the bigger picture."

Bates turned back around and focused on piloting the decoy vessel. He lifted her up gently, raising her landing gear as he exited her out of the Vindicator. He engaged the throttle and smiled inwardly as he tested her movements, spinning the vessel in a 360, moving her quickly to the right and left to test the maneuverability of her. The engineers did a great job it seemed, and as always great work comes with bonuses. They all knew that. Minutes after they left the hanger, a squadron of fighters came out of the hanger after them. They were unmarked and looked more like a mismatch band of pirate fighters than anything else, all pieced together by pieces of junk, yet able to maneuver as good as any other.

Now they were ready.

He led the group close to the edge of CSA space near Surron where the last known whereabouts of the scouts were known and set his plan into motion. Switching to his private comms, he sent word to his squadron. ~Time to engage boys. Make it look good.~ Bates turned on the deflector shields just in time as the first volley of laser fire headed their way. He switched his comms to a public frequency and lay out his distress call, mustering up a bit of panic in his voice. ~Mayday! Mayday! This is the Free Lady carrying important cargo! We're under attack! I repeat! This is the Free Lady under attack! We need some help out here!~

Bates didn't wait for an answer. Instead he just put the vessel through some barrel rolls and tight maneuvers. The squadron wasn't letting up at all, doing exactly what he ordered them to do. The vessel started taking hits, shaking with each pummel as the deflector shields started to lose their strength. He had already been bringing them back towards Altier, leaning forward in his seat, gritting his teeth as he prepared himself.

BOOM!!

A direct hit on the hull sent smoke and debris flying into space. It was perfect. Alarms went off, lights started flashing. The squadron followed after them like predators chasing their wounded prey as it limped down towards the surface of Altier. Bates had lost some navigational control, but enough to still be able to move. He found a valley that looked more or less flat and brought her down towards it. Again he hit the switch for the public comm frequency. ~Mayday! Mayday! The Free Lady is hit! Badly! We're going down!~

And down she went. Hard. It wasn't a gentle landing, but it was never meant to be. The vessel slid on it's belly along the grass and rocks until it came to a stop, spraying dirt and smoke into the air.

[member="Cassius Droma"]

Thalia would know exactly what was happening, she would make sure she was fully restrained to the seat back. She would brace for impact on the surface of the planet. Once they were down in the dirt she would begin to undo her restraints as she began to try to climb out of the cockpit

Cassius had almost finished his sensor sweep and was about to lay in a new course when a distress call came flashing over his comm system. He recognized the signal – it was from the Free Lady. Instinctively, he flipped the switch to receive, hearing the panicked voice of who he assumed was the pilot. He’d never met Lady Kay’s personal pilot, so he had to assume that this was him. Quickly, he began putting in new hyperspace coordinates with his left hand while his right flipped a switch to transmit back to the Free Lady.

Free Lady, this is Bravo Two. I’m en route. Hang on,” just as he finished the transmission, he engaged the hyperdrive, snapping off into the stars.

It took less than a minute to get to the source of the distress signal, since he had been pretty much in the same system. He snapped in maybe a kilometer away from the action, but he could see clear as day that it was in fact the Free Lady under attack by pirate forces. Cassius would know – he’d flown it before. At this point, it was already heading towards the surface of Altier, a planet just outside of CSA space. As he pushed his thrust forward, he found himself once again questioning why Lady Kay would fly with such a small ship. She was the leader of a major faction in the galaxy… and she chose to travel in a light freighter. Regardless, he needed to spring into action, even if it meant he was going in alone against a squadron of pirates.

They hadn’t even noticed him as he came zooming towards them. Locking on a concussion missile to a single pirate fighter, he fired, immediately switching to another fighter and firing his laser cannons while the missile made its way to its target. In a matter of moments, both pirate fighters were either obliterated or spinning out of control. He managed to blast another one before the fighters started to turn their attention to him. Nearly half of the squadron started to make passes at him. He rolled and dipped out of the way, trying his best to stay with the Free Lady as it made its dive to the surface.

A laser hit to his engine made it start smoking, and Cassius tried his best to turn out of the way and try to get the upper hand on the fighters, but it was too difficult. They hit the atmosphere, and all of the fighters suddenly turned their attention to him. They swarmed him like angry insects, all trying to sting him with their laser cannons. Eventually a hit to his stabilizer fin spelled the end – he had to compensate so much so as to not go into a spin that he couldn’t maneuver any other way.

He knew what he had to do – abandon ship. The emotional implication of losing a starfighter he’d come to have an almost bond with didn’t even dawn on him. It was all about survival at this point. Grunting as he reached over to the ejector switch, he lifted the cover and flipped it, the cockpit exploding off with a loud bang. Then, within milliseconds of the cockpit flying off, his seat shot up, flattening as it did so, so his body was in an upwards prone position as it came out of the cockpit.

The maneuver almost made him pass out, seeing as how fast he’d been going, but he managed to stay alert as the repulsors activated and started to normalize his fall to the surface. He could see the Free Lady as it landed in a valley. With what little control he had over the ejector mechanism, he maneuvered over towards the freighter, landing with a hard thud maybe 100 meters away in the wake of the freighter’s landing.

Tearing off the ejector harness, he stood, drawing his A180 blaster and staying still for a moment, listening. He didn’t hear much, other than the dying engines of the Free Lady and the wildlife that had been spooked by the unexpected visitor. In all the excitement, his senses in the Force had been deadened – something that would have been reversed had he been a half-decent Jedi. He tried to focus, but the adrenaline was making it difficult. Something told him that something wasn’t right, but he attributed that feeling to the fact that he’d just done his first ejection out of a starfighter that wasn’t a simulation and they were possibly under threat of attack by pirates.

Quickly, he hurried over to the YT-1300, holstering his blaster as he climbed up the side of it and onto the top. He knew that since the vessel had landed so hard on the ground, the boarding ramp wouldn't be able to open, and the docking tube might have been damaged, as well, and there was no telling whether he’d be able to open that. Reaching for his lightsaber, dutifully hanging onto his belt despite what had just happened, he ignited the blue blade and plunged it into the top of the freighter, cutting a hole just big enough for him to fit through.

Boots hitting the floor of the freighter, he could tell that he was in the lounge area from what little light there was from the hole he’d made. Otherwise, it was completely dark, the only other source of light coming from his weapon.

Something was very, very wrong. He just couldn’t tell what.

“Lady Kay?” he called out.

((Sorry for the monster post, guys. I love writing action.))[/SIZE]

The Jedi star fighter was a refined ship, made with a lot of skill specifically for force users, making capitulating on their sudden movements and common elaboarte maneuvers more easier. Still said ship Kurenai owned was in no way new, the craft being just as old as her, and despite extensive maintenance and constant repairing eventually things broke, and for some unknown reason said hyper drive ring that came with their ship malfunctioned, pulling the craft out of space just outside of CSA space, stranding her near Altier.

"Well this is a fine mess I've gotten my self into", she gave a grunt and went to work rerouting her communication array and setting it to the one use by the CSA, even if she was just outside their borders she was certain a single of some sort would catch their attention. Though before she could send a signal on came to her. ".... the free lady? isn't that the ship Lady Kay own, interesting", Kurenai didn;t really care about the whole ordeal, but it may mean she;d be able to get a proper lift back without having to go through certain levels of bureaucracy, since she was technically part of the CIS.

She engaged the engines on the star fighter, racing towards the area of conflict all but arriving a little later due to the area her ships came out of hyper space. She saw the A-wing star fighter hurtling towards the surface as it was swarmed by fighters, who then broke off, happy about their work, before turning their attention to her, "..... you all must have a dead wish".

She engaged the fighter s-foils and launched into combat against the pirates, doing an S loop, kiting the fighters around and getting behind the most latter one, the green blaster bolts form the relic of a ship, chewing the enemy fighter apart. Unfortunately she had underestimated the armament of the enemy ship, a lock on signal beeping to her side, indicating a concussion missile coming for her. Kurenai banked the craft to the left, cutting across the path of another fighter, a missile hitting a friendly, but there was more then one.

Her hands pulled hard on the controls trying to shake the incoming missile, though years of use had degraded its performance. The missiles hit against her right wing, gravity soon taking control, making the ship spiral out of control and to the planets surface, "... *sigh*, looks like its goodby old girl". The canopy opened up as the craft hustled towards the surface, Kurenai gave one last look at the ship before jumping out, spreading her limbs apart declining the acceleration of her fall.

Using the force she pushed hard against the incoming ground, further slowing her fall, a shock wave of large magnitude being send out upon hitting the ground, kicking up dust and small plant life. Kurnai looked around, unsure of her location or bearing to the crashed ship "Great now what".

Tanasuki waited patiently in the ship as Bates moved the ship around, getting a feel for it maneuverability, it was a nibble ship, most freighters were, but it was probably to add more realism to the ship, there was no doubt that the Actual Free Lady was supped up to the max, and it seemed this was one as well.

The trip to the CSA border was quick and uneventful, Tana going though methods in his mind on how to take down and capture a scout, it was a good thing he used single edge vibro blades, meant the blunt side could be used for not lethal combat, as well as his Thorn of Ryloth. Soon shuddering engulfed the ship as the 'pirates' started there attack, the deflector shields being hammered, "Your sure making this seem realistic".

The replica ship plummeted to the ground, causing Tana to worry slightly, hopefully the ship wouldn't crash fro real, though the real reason for being alight on edge was a familiar feeling, a dark presence far away but lose enough, 'what is that, could it be.....". His train of though was cut off at the ship impacted the ground, hard, but expertly gentle at the same to, keep the ship intact, but still caused several pipes and devices to fail, steam and smoke slowly filling the ship, perfect cover for the assassin.

The sound of light saber reached his ears, and soon down the hall was a blazing blue light, it did not take Tana more then a few seconds to put 2 and 2 together. Striking from the shadows Tana aimed the blunt side of his vibro blade at the head of the Jedi in question aiming to try and knock him out in on fell swoop, unnecessary combat only made the chances of being found higher.

Sorry for the delay. I had been waiting for [member="Teroch Werda"] to post, but there are plenty of people having troubles accessing the site. So I'm just going to post to keep things moving

This part of the plan had gone perfectly. Not only did the ruse work, but his crash landing was executed perfectly. As [member="Thalia Kaia"] got out of her seat, Bates was busy checking out the decoy's systems. It'll be a rocky start to get back up again, given that they'd be lifting off without the use of their landing gear, but no matter. He'll make it work when the time came.

Bates unbuckled himself from his seat as he heard the lightsaber of [member="Cassius Droma"] cutting through the hull. Well that might pose a problem when it came to flying. No doubt they'll now have to 'borrow' another ship. He heard the young man shout and that caused him to give a bit of a smile. "She's over here!..." Bates certainly wasn't above lying, especially in this line of work. Whatever it took to achieve his goals, he wanted to do.

Time to let his new crew do their work and see if they are worth the salary he was giving them. Of course he wasn't expecting to have to deal with a Force User. Who knows if he was well trained. Both him and his crew were about to find out.

[member="Kurenai Yumi"] [member="Tanaski Yumi"]

That sense of danger he had steadily became more intense the longer he stayed in the dark. He heard a voice call out from the direction of the cockpit, which was just around the corner. He was almost ready to head in that direction, but that prickling feeling at the back of his neck surged, almost becoming overwhelming.

He was being attacked.

The Force almost moved his body before he could, turning his body and keeping his lightsaber in a vertical position as the vibroblade made contact, sending a shower of sparks around the room. He stepped back, trying to put distance between himself and the attacker. Now facing away from the corridor leading to the cockpit, he could only hope that there weren’t any other pirates on board. He was very exposed from where he was.

Dueling was by no means his specialty… he hadn’t really had much lightsaber training to begin with. Between going off on his own little adventures and flying, his time with Master Jade wasn’t as plentiful as he’d like. Not to mention the fact that his master was on the Council – that further complicated things. He made a mental note to carve out more time to train with his master.

Regardless, he stood, both hands on his weapons, staring down his attacker, ready to fight. He’d use whatever tricks he could think of to fend off these pirates. Cassius was sure that he would win the day…

With a flicker and a sizzle, the blue blade was suddenly extinguished. His lightsaber had shorted out. Again.

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” he muttered, holding his now-turned off lightsaber in his left hand while his right tried to quickly draw his blaster.

It was quite, but soon the sound of ships flying over head echoed around. Looking up her eyes meet with those of the pirates ships, heading towards some location. "That must be where the free lady crashed, not to her reason for the pirates for be on world, most likely going to see what they can scrounge up before word get out, which means it the best place to go to find action".

Kurenai leapt into a sprint a she tailed the fighters, hopping from tree to tree, ledge to ledge, igniting her blood orange blade to cut down away at any foliage that got in her way. Slowly the sight of fallen branches, small pieces of metal became visible on the ground, the top of the tree line looking to be very crudely decapitated, "I must be getting close, I can feel it".

That was not all she felt, a sense of familiarity came to her, one that seems more recent, but the other, one she had not felt in a long time, but felts as though had been connected for 17 years, 'could it be them.... only one way to find out'. Coming closer the pirate ships seemed to be acting strange, not only did they not land, the crafts simple left not even blasting the crashed freighter, as if to let whatever happened down below play out.

Something felt off about this....
