Al’Mira: Al'Mira was founded in the middle on the northern hemisphere at the edge of the sea, with ore rich mountains to its north and sprawling untouched forests around its borders. Currently it is a sprawling and growing city, with a small industry sector and several small scale factories. There have also several small mining operations started in the nearby mountain range. The city is defended by defense turrets lined up at its perimeter which are manned at all times. In several key points are KLG-1 "Vespa" 40mm Auto-Ripper air defense towers which are geared to be able to shoot at the ground. The modification to be able to shoot to the ground is to deal with Tuskurs and any potential ground attacks. Due to multiple incidents in the past of unprovoked orbital bombardments of which many of this planet's colonists suffered from, the city has a Theater Shield setup at it’s center. At several points in the city is Tranquility system sensor jammers, tactfully set up near Torrent-class Plasma Energy Torpedo turrets. Tied into all of this to keep the systems safe from slivers is Mithril Security Software, keeping a tight lock on attempted electronical sabotage.
POPULATION
- Native Species: Tuskur’s, Shadow Cat’s, Olthoids(Undiscovered), Grey Skins(Undiscovered), Oureicks(Undiscovered), Ouresai(Undiscovered)
- Immigrated Species: Human, Mirialan, Xi Charrian, Twi’lek, Rodian, Zabrak
- Population: Sparsely Populated
- Demographics: Given the amount of Refugee’s both from the Dominion in the past and the more recent attacks on the SJO, there are a great variety of immigrated species present. Abundant natural resources and careful management of them has kept any major incidents of racism down, though there are still some racial tensions.
Unknown to the colonists there is a sentient species, living deeply in the expansive caves past the ‘Shadowzone’. The Ouresai as they call themselves are not purposefully hiding, rather they simply never attempt to venture out past the Shadowzone themselves having lived deep in the perilous caves for as long as they can recall through their history. Though there are always a few curious and brave explorers and remnants of a few attempts of theirs at exploration outside of their caves can be found deep in the mountains. Their tech level is roughly medieval.
- Primary Languages: Galactic Standard Basic, Oursarian(Undiscovered)
- Culture: Daily Life on Alrakis is a busy affair. There are plenty of jobs that require all kinds of specialities from landscape planning to utilities management. Though they have not been there long, there are certain food items and styles of clothing that have started to crop up from the planet’s natural resources. Seafood is the most common with local breweries starting to pop up in an attempt to make new beverages. Most people on the planet have a very hardy independent nature as a whole, relying on themselves first and their families and closest friends second. There is not many forms of sports on the planet outside of what you might normally find in the galaxy, though hunting as both a sport and necessity is fairly common. There is little in the way of art on the planet, but there are a few specialist who specifically work with Tuskur scales and have produced some fine pieces that go for fairly high prices planetside.
- Government: City commission government
- Affiliation: None
- Wealth: Low, due to the lack of infrastructure that has been set up so far for generating wealth. Ie, while Alrakis has a few mines and factories they are focused on building materials and items for the planet and not for sale elsewhere as merchandise.
- Stability: Medium, while there are plenty of issues regarding the planet itself as well as luxury goods, the needs of your average citizen for everyday life are met. Were it not for the threats of the local wildlife things would be more or less perfect. Travelers will find the citizen’s of this place to be cold shouldered, as most of them are refugees who have lost everything they own already and are afraid of losing it all again.
- Freedom & Oppression: The ruling on the planet is for the most part relaxed. Inside the main city there is little you are not allowed to do so long as it is not threatening the safety of the city directly. While they have most extremely dangerous weapons and substances banned, there is one weapon that is allowed planetside that in most is considered illegal. Disruptors. Because of the dangers posed by the wildlife, it is possible to obtain a permit after going through a background check and mental health tests to legally own a disruptor weapon. Trading and dealing of this weapon are only allowed by certified dealers, of which there are several.
- Military: The military for Alrakis is fairly robust in spite of its small population. Due to the possibility of attacks by both Shadow Cats and in rare cases Tuskurs, every person above the age of sixteen is required to both have a weapon and train with it once a week. The government supplies the ammunition in part and the Military branch holds the trainings. While they are primarily focused on dealing with the local wildlife, some training for dealing with pirates and bandits is also given though neither have been an issue so far.
- Technology: Average to slightly below average compared to the rest of the galaxy
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The planet of Alrakis was discovered three years ago by SJO explorers. Looking for planets to help relocate refugees from various war’s across the galaxy, the planet was a good fit. While it was more dangerous than many planets thanks both to the Tuskur’s and Shadow Cat’s, it’s breathable atmosphere, rich mineral deposits and exceptional soil in the end would win over a sizeable number of colonists willing to brave its dangers and master the planet. Though still in the early stages of colonization, they have managed to set up several mines in the nearby mountain range along with a few small scale factories along with harvesting enough food on their own to be self sufficient. Though they do still rely on imports for more complex items such as starships or more advanced tech, they are capable of maintaining and repairing what they do purchase and own.
