Historical Information
Alorith Greysteel was born on Deorus, a world located deep inside the Southern Reaches of the Outer Rim. By galactic standards, Deorus was a backwater world. Instead of advanced technology, the people chose to remain in a largely medieval lifestyle. Cities were few, space travel was limited, and contact with the wider galaxy was largely ignored. The individual provinces of the world were ruled by feudal lords, each one coming from a legacy dating back to the earliest days of galactic history. The peaceful and secluded ways of the Deorus people were shattered however by the coming of the old Gulag Plague.
Smugglers seeking to escape the plague came to Deorus, bringing with them their sick passengers. The plague swept across Deorus, killing millions and ending family legacies thousands of years in the making. Isolated from the larger galaxy as they were, the people of Deorus suffered especially terrible fates, and the world prepared itself to die in silence. This was brought to an end by the Greysteel family. Lords of the Sunvale Province, the Greysteels closed to borders of their realm before the plague could enter, and violently expelled any with the slightest sign of the sickness. Their harsh actions led to the deaths of thousands of their people, but as the rest of Deorus fell, Sunvale endured. In a decade, the rest of their world was a barren, empty ruins, while the Sunvale began to emerge from its isolation.
The people of Sunvale, cautiously, began to rebuild their world. Every city, settlement and bastion of the old order that remained was burned, and the slightest hint of the Gulag Plague was eradicated. The Lords of the Sunvale swore that they would not allow the same fate to befall their world again, and thusly closed their world forever to the galaxy. The few people who came to the rebuilding Deorus afterwards were never heard from again, and this backwater, devastated world slipped from galactic history.
Alorith entered this society four hundred years since they had begun rebuilding. The heir to the Greysteel legacy, Alorith was raised with the understanding that one day, the rulership of his world and people would fall on his shoulders. Such a burden was not beyond the youths capability, at least he thought so anyway, but he questioned the isolationist practices of his world. Certainly recent galactic events had proven that the galaxy at large was a dangerous place. Galactic Wars, the Netherworld Event, the Omega War, there was countless examples of how isolation would be the safest option for the people of Deorus. However, Alorith had made the personal decision to ignore precedent.
For hundreds of years, the Greysteels had selected a single individual to be sent out into the galaxy on a fact finding mission. This individual, the Seeker, travelled to the far corners and depths of the galaxy, bringing back the information needed for Deorus to stay updated on current affairs. When the previous Seeker died, Alorith took it upon himself to assume the mantle. Now, the High Lord of the Sunvale and Seeker of Deorus, Alorith has set out into the galaxy to determine the place he and his people might have in it.
