OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
SETTING INFORMATION
  • City Name: Alnapolix
  • Classification: Metropolis
  • Location: Verkuyl, near the equator
  • Affiliation: The Vratix-dominated city government of Alnapolix answers to the First Order, and has an interdependent relationship with Silk Holdings.
  • Demographics: 83% Vratix, 7% human, 10% other
  • Wealth: Moderate. The Vratix of Alnapolix is central to a galaxy-spanning bacta distribution network. The new human city Novatria and the First Order nationalization of Verkuylian BactaCo have challenged a good portion of Alnapolix's market share in recent years.
  • Stability: High. Between Vratix work culture, the First Order's decidedly pro-industry stance, and Silk's generous wages, Alnapolix is reasonably content. There are certain neighbourhoods where humanoids don't go after dark, like in any city, but they're the exception rather than the rule.
  • Description: Alnapolix is a Vratix city, one of the largest on Verkuyl. The largest employer by far is Consolidated Bacta Ltd., owned by Silk Holdings (2/3) and Santhe/Sienar (1/3). You could say Alnapolix is a stone's throw from a company town. Iron Crown Enterprises also employs many Alnapolix natives to build bacta-related equipment. Many other corporations have a foothold in Alnapolix, and a wide variety of supporting services and industries can be found throughout the city. If life in Alnapolix has one drawback, it's that bacta is the only game in town. To find high society, you want to go to Dosuun or Bespin; for large and diverse markets, you need to try Sor Yusan on Varada V.
POINTS OF INTEREST
  • At the north end of town, HALCYON FTL trains ascend and descend a gigantic skyhook. Alnapolix is fully connected to the HALCYON network, which delivers public transit and bulk freight across two galaxies. It's entirely possible to hop on a train at Alnapolix and step off at the back end of the Rishi Maze. It might take you a couple of years, but it's possible.
  • On the south side, far away from the skyhook, is the main spaceport. Verkuyl is a major destination on the Blood Trail, and the port sees frequent corporate and private traffic from all corners of the Unknown Regions.
  • The city has hundreds of square kilometres of bacta processing facilities, most of them belonging to Consolidated. Many facilities include alazhi growth mediums overseen by the essential Vratix, who excrete kavam. Other facilities manufacture ambori or combine the bacta components for packaging.
  • Vast agricultural fields surround the city. Xoorzi is the main product, a crucial step in the bacta production process.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The hyperspace explorers Alna D'Lessio and Jorus Merrill discovered Verkuyl in roughly 835ABY and reconnected it with the galaxy. [member="Hylocereus"] Valkner's reinvention of kolcta - and investment funds from Santhe/Sienar and the house of Zambrano, all under the Consolidated brand - brought serious prosperity to the Vratix. Throughout the late 830's, Verkuylian bacta was nearly as vital to Silk Holdings' explosive growth as the creation of the Mara Corridor.

The Fringe Confederation relied on, but never nationalized, Silk's gigantic bacta distribution network. Their rivals, the Omega Protectorate, controlled Thyferra; the Fringe opted to work with Verkuyl rather than negotiate tariffs across the Neutral Zone. It's no exaggeration to say that Verkuyl's bacta output prolonged the smoldering war between the Protectorate and the Fringe.

After both powers collapsed, Verkuyl kept chuggling along. The Fringe had built the Blood Trail, and Silk had constructed a HALCYON mass transit hub centered on Verkuyl. That infrastructure remained largely intact, to the benefit of the Vratix.

When the First Order rose, Silk decided to keep a relatively unobjectionable profile and continue with business as usual. When war erupted between the First and the Galactic Alliance, Silk found itself in a familiar position, and kept on selling bacta across the Unknown Regions. The First Order's nationalization of Verkuylian BactaCo, a longtime Silk/Consolidated partner, prompted wariness but proved no cause for alarm. The Alnapolix Vratix and Silk saw the First Order's new construction and investment efforts as, on balance, a positive sign.
