SPECIAL FEATURES
Strengths:
- The forward spear of the ship is braced and measured to allow for repeatable ramming maneuvers.
- The ship is designed to be built without any exotic materials or overzealous frivolities. Thus promoting ease of repair and speed of manufacturing.
- In 3 dimensional space, the primary firing arcs of the vessel are aligned horizontally. Along it's x and y axis. Leaving exactly 50% of it's guns unable to fire at a target that aligns itself vertically. Along it's z axis. Whether that be above the ship or below.
- Due to a unique lack of heavily automated systems this vessel requires a much larger crew compliment than most vessels in it's class. High moral is considered uncommon do to it's basic accommodations and A.I. engineers need not apply.
Description:
The Alloy Class Star Defender was designed by Antarian Rear Admiral Mark Radish following The Silver Jedi Order's relocation to Kashyyyk. It was specifically designed as a general purpose warship that could be twice the size of any vessel a minor faction could produce. Constructed just as quickly, from almost any capital shipyard, and can still fielded in impressive numbers.
Of note. No original prototype was made. The first three vessels to come off the manufacturing line were all field tested along the Partian Ridge of Calamass Minor. Notable shortages in supplies, consumables, droids, and job specializations made the field tests almost unbearable for the three crews involved. However, despite issues with low moral over the spartan living conditions and lack of luxury supplies. The vessels all passed their performance testing with flying colors. Indeed. The ship's engineers all noted that not a single ship's reactor came even close to reaching maximum stress levels during testing. Even with all of their heavy turbolasers firing at once.
Regrettably. Silver Command has voiced concerns over it's larger crew counts, supply demands, and xeno-staffing issues. Siting that excessive construction of these massive warships is currently a difficult option without a massively sustainable population of naval recruits and, (probably,) a really good propaganda campaign. Especially when most basic crewmen and naval officers are accustomed to more comfortable situations elsewhere.
These vessels are often deployed defensively in groups of four to defend Silver member worlds in the periphery.
